Thread: Serious Songs!

Breaking my short stint of inactivity on the Musician boards with a movement! Yarrr!

As if I haven't said it enough, Musicians need more serious songs. What exactly do I mean by that?

Nearly every song in our repertoire has a happy, jubilant feeling to it. Good times for all! However, one of the true miracles of music is being able to represent any emotion, both the good and bad. As it stands, Ceremonial is our only serious song in this regard (especially Chin Horn). Waltz is... eh... a little too celebratory for my tastes.

One of the things I pride in most in being a Musician is actually touching people in real life with my music. I know for certain that one person has teared during a rendition of my song at the point where the main hero dies. What I would love is a Requiem song for those sad moments of our gameplay, for real life and RP. A few examples that come to mind are going away parties for people leaving the game, when a party turns ugly, or when I'm just in a "blah" mood and want to reflect that. Personally one of my fantasies is to go on to a field of PvP battle, dozens of bodies around me, whip out my Mandovial and just start playing a sorrowful, mourning tune.

Anyways, I digress. For our next implemented song (whenever that is) I humbly request that the devs consider a more serious, soulful song rather than another joyous "silly" song.

Like an emotional Rock Ballad?

Not saying it is or isn't a good song but for example:

"Shot Through The Heart"

Or maybe something a little more pop/R&B-ish like:

"I'll never break your heart"

Or we talkin serious like Classical music say:

Beethoven's "Fur Elise"

all of the above in one way or another fit into the "serious music" category

And I do agree, serious music can be "enjoyed". The music in a game like this doesn't have to be (in star wars music terms) Cantina band or Jedi Rocks all the time. Incorporate some "duel of the fates" or "Across the stars" level of music that sounds good, yet touches the individual in a more serious manner.

We're pointed in the right direction with the Ceremonial andWaltz songs, now we just need to take a step further. Once the combat revamp is out of the way proposing such an addition in combination with other improvements to help take the entertainers take a step up along with the combat people to improved gaming.

It would be cool to see a genericly made "song" from each music genre appear in the future in SWG. Everything from Rock, Pop, R&B, to Classical, Contemporary, to even some of the genres like electronica (trance/techno/house/dance) and Rap/Hip-Hop (can we say STar Wars Gangsta rap? )

I'd like more serious songs, as well as serious animations. Perhaps even being able to play whilst sitting, in a serious manner would be great too.

I was thinking more "Every Rose Has It's Thorns." That and a purely instrumental feel to it, lots of low violin and the like.

Perhaps they can take advantage of the old "sliding off the seat" bug add to that a tapping of the foot to the rhythm, and let you play whatever your playing instrument wise but the one that leaps into my head is playin mando, like if your playin a folk song (hang on a sec we have one of those... hmm, maybe it could be joined with the sit and play emote...)

LOL come up with the coal-miner's equivalent of grinding songs... an interesting idea!

Workin on the force grind (Workin in a coal mine)

also an Idea up the serious song alley.... Factional songs! Songs that represent the Rebels, Imperials and Neutral factions.

Think back to US Civil War times.... have the equivalent of songs from the north and songs from the south

Playable by all musicians though. But an extra little somethin for pleasing audiences of certain factions.

In fact, not to repeat what as been already said because i agree with that (but still wonder about the hip-hop one), the need is of replacing or at a better case adding many new song that would make others who listen to us feel how we feel from the pain of losing his wife to the love for someone or many of those emotion that can be given by the music.

Although it mgiht be difficult to get that music right away, you could always ask for the community to sort out some song or even make a contest from this and the prize would be to get the song in the game. Legally, well it's like applying for the correspondant, everything would remain the property of SOE. I'm still sure that the community could help much more in the way this game go and a music contest would be a good way to start this.

Good suggestions there, they would probably be sketchy on the copyright stuff for sure, but I think we can find a happy mid-ground between giving the Entertainers more songs and no copyright infringments. The players simply post songs similar to what they'd like to hear and then the developers could in fact make a vague composition to fill that request.

For example Top 40 rap from 1990's give them songs to think of when they're makin the SWG song like (U Can't Touch This), (Ice Ice Baby), (2 Legit 2 Quit), (Poison)

and so forth

All the songs have a similar "sound" to them, all you do is vaguely recreate that sound in a new song and make the instrument parts for it.

This would be very pursuit-worthy if they would be willing to work with us in such a manner.

FYI
Most of the music in the game falls into the catagory that starwars calls Jizwailing.
Fun fact. ^_^

You made me think of this. As punishment, I'm going to make you read it.

Hurrah! Hurrah!
We bring the Jubilee
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The flag that sets you free
So we sang the chorus from Kaadara to the sea
While we were marching through Na-boo

How the Gungans shouted when they heard that joyful sound
How the kaadus gobbled that our commissary found
How the Vege Tubers even started from the ground
While we were marching through Na-boo.
