Thread: My Idea to help entertainers and other players...

Not very many people seem happy with the macro nerf. Non entertainer players are concerned with how they are going to be healed and buffed during non peak times, and entertainers themselves are having issue with this.

In thinking about this problem, I thought of an idea and I wanted to run it past you all here:

My idea is to create NPC Entertainers, similiar to merchants that Master Dancers & Musicians could locate in their cantinas, entertainer tents or houses. These NPCs would be able to provide buffs for a price. The entertainer would have to pay maintenance on them just like merchants, they would be able to charge a price for their services. This solution could hopefully use similar if not the some same code as the trainers and merchants. There could still be benefits for Entertainers that are entertainers because they like it, the buffs could be faster, (say 2 minutes for full buff) and last longer (say 3 hours to be more inline with doc buffs) and mabe even more powerful and *gasp* maybe both Dancers and Musicians could do all 3 mind buffs!! While the merchant type entertainers would be as much of a pain as getting buffed today, you would need to go to a Dancer merchant and a Musician Merchant to get all 3 buffs.

Just an idea... what do you all think?

I was thinking of this too actually, but allowing this to happen for those who have both merchant and other service skills such as doc, medic, dancer or musician. In other words, let people do what they do with AFK bots but legitimize the process by requiring some extra skill point expenditure to be able to do it, and some maintenance to place it.

I would limit the vendors to places where vendors can already be placed so that the main cantinas can remain social hubs for those wanting to play entertainers.

Also whether you make entertainers have better buffs than they currently give or make the vendors worse, the ultimate balance should be one that weights people's incentives to try to find a live entertainer over one of these vendors.

I think something like that would satisfy the people who feel they would lose out if entertainer service (or others) could not be provided when no other players are online or available. Players would still be driving the economy since the character who ismerchant/dancer/musician would still need to set up the vendor. Perhaps they would have to load it by performing to it with their skills a set amount each day or up to a set amount of buffs (so the vendor would sometimes be out of stock). My experience doing merchant was that was basically what the role required me to do. Put up a vendor and put product on it occasionally.

I'd still prefer the developers rebalanced the game so quite so many players didn't feel they needed permament buff vendors, but perhaps that is not possible as regardless of how little advantage a buff gives, some players would always want to have it. So if we think "bots" are inevitable to meet demand, then why not find a way to bring bots into the game economy in a more balanced way then how they are now used?

Cantinas are already supposed to heal. Now I've heard some say they don't work. But last time I checked it did. Now maybe just a fix to insure that they heal Mind Wounds and BF and maybe a tweak to the programing so that if the cantina isn't manned(no one is registered there) then the healing gets bumped up a bit. Would seem to be much easier to do.

I don't think that this idea fit for SWG

SWG have a player driven economy, are players that have to fulfill the comunity demand and it works like that for all profession.

whit this idea all profession should theorically have their npc backup, docs who provide buffs too, but also artisans if we bring this idea to extreme...

sometimes is not easy to find food (the good one sell quite fast) or armor or even good weapons for novices, theorically they should need a backup npc too...

i think that the idea of backup npcs is not bad by itself but simply not suited to SWG and they way it was developed.

as said in other post i really think that entertainers will come back to play when afkers will leave cantinas, and using various items that player have to find them, should be not too difficult to find them

i also think that buffs have to be improved to make them more viable and easy to use.. but that's another 3d eheh

hrmm... i dont think that it would be reasonable to assume that there should be a back up for every profession. Given that logic the merchant profession should be wiped out and crafters should have to sit at the starport spamming for people to come trade with them. What i was thinking was to make the Entertainer NPC cost the entertainer a fair amount of money to maintain, only be available at the highest level of entertainer, and be implemented in a way that only if the players couldnt find a live entertainer they would suffer thourgh the process that would be involved in using the entertainer merchant dudes. Live entertainers should be given a boost to make their buffing faster and better, while making the NPCs a sorry repalcement, yet a viable one if there is no live options.
