Hello fellow musicians! I just reached novice musician and I got a playback droid. However I have no idea how to use this thing. I figured out how to record tracks but they dont seem to play over and over again. I want to create a rhythem section with the different instruments so I may solo over the recorded tracks however I cant figure out how to use the darn droid. I looked but couldnt find a guide or post that explains how to use this probably very useful droid however I couldnt find one. So if you wouldnt mind explaining how to use the playback droid in this thread or posting a link to a guide I would greatly appreciate that. Thanks!

I will add a FAQ on this to our Musician FAQ. I think I'll use my answer to you as a rough draft. I'm sure others will step in to correct one or two things.
You need to be a Novice Musician or higher to use the droid. Since you say you are, the next step is to make sure your droid has playback modules. Did you buy only effects modules, or did you leave room for tunes too? If you have one or more playback modules, you can record one "track" per module. To record a track, first group with the droid. Then radial-click the droid and choose 'access playback module.' Then select an open track and click 'record/play.' Then begin playing whatever song/instrument you want recorded. You can only recorda song/instrument you already know. E.g., play Folk with Fizzz to get that track on your droid. No need to flourish while you record. In 30 seconds you should see a message that the droid has finished recording. Next, equip a different instrument for yourself. Then radial-click the droid, select 'access playback module,' select the recorded track, and click 'record/play.' This time the droid will perform instead of record. You can then /startmusic to join in the tune. Er, I think that's the right order; it's hard to remember without having the game in front of me.
Once you and the droid are both playing, you can /bandflo and the droid will flourish along with you. You can also /bandflo fizzz, I think. You can also /pausemusic to give the droid a solo. Also, your droid can do its visual-effects while all this is going on. All told, it's quite a party.

Yes it is an R3 with 6 playback moduals for 6 different tracks. So am I right to assume you can only play 1 recored track at a time or are you able to play all 6 at once? thanks for the help so far though it is very helpful =)

Yes you can only play one track at a time. The droid will NOT flourish at all, even if you used flourishes when recording the music on the droid. The only way the droid will flourish is to use the /bandflourish command.
Here's the syntax of the /bandflourish command (usually abbreviated as /bandflo):
/bandflourish # instrument
# - Number of the flourish to play
instrument - the instrument to play the flourish
If you leave off the instrument, everyone in the band will play that flourish. If you specify an instrument, such as /bandflo 1 bandfill, then ONLY that instrument will play the flourish. Instrument names can also be abbreviated, so /bandflo 1 band would do the same thing as above.
Hope this helps!

Since the droid will respond to band commands, an easier way to get him going is /startband. Then you and the droid will start playing at the same time. You'll still need to give him the radial commands if you're both part of a bigger group though.
I've got two of these R3 droids... Beat has bandfill tracks for the 6 songs I play the most when I'm solo, and Amp has mandoviol tracks so when I'm playing mando I can be heard over the chorus of slitherhorns. Beat has a looping macro to play a few bass flourishes so I'm hands-free.
Be sure if you're using your playback droid to be considerate of others in the group playing the same instrument who might not want to flourish with your droid.

Actually the bandflourish command can be shortened way down to a very manageable 1 character.
I kid you not!
Try this;
/b 1
or
/b 1 <beginning letter of instrument>
Except for the fizz and the fanfar this works perfectly, in their case tho, you have to expand the instrument name to two letters.
One thing that I have found helpful, is that I have created a second hot key bar the contains all bandflourish versions, much like a normal flourish tool bar. The problem then, is when you group up with other musicians, because they probably will not like having all their flourishes taken over. Although you can warn them and ask them to turn their band flourishes off with the string "/b off".
Have fun with your new droid!
