I keep reading posts about people who seem to think that some of the proposed changes will bring their gameplay to a halt, and that entertainers will be impossible to find.

First off, check your local boards, or here, and see if there is a chat channel set up by ents to facilitate locating a live entertainer. On Tempest, join chat ATK. Even during off-peak hours, you can probably bet that there's somebody available and willing to help you out.

Secondly, fatigue andwounds will heal passively in cantinas, just aswounds do in med centers. Granted, it's slow as hell, but it doesn't bring your gameplay to a screeching halt.

And of course, there's always the option of alternate servers, both official and unofficial, set up for various time zones.

Haven't checked them all, but as of two nights ago Shadowfire has none. I'd be willing to bet this is true of most of the smaller servers.

I've been building a list of all the known entertainer channels on a thread here. No one from Shadowfire has informed me of one yet, but feel free to start your own. All it takes is to create the channel, and go to one or two cantinas and let everyone know, and ask them to spread the word. Put a post on Shadowfire's forum if you want.
And btw, Tempest joins Shadowfire as one of the smallest servers, and we've had our ATK chat going for quite a while .
I'm hoping we can help reach out to the community by helping people find us more easily.

What made me listen up when reading TH's post was this:

Off-peak-hours availability of healers in Cantinas and Hospitals

And sure enough, in the very first reply, someone mentions NPC entertainers...

Frankly, I didn't bother to read past the first page, but even on there I found another suggestion of letting people heal their own BF, even if at a reduced rate.

And with the Devs always opting for the easy way out, I very much worry that we will indeed see NPC entertainers before too long. After all, those are bound to be easier and quicker to implement than making the musician and dancer professions more appealing to the general public. Because where would we be if a combatant wouldn't find a mind buff or bf healing at 4am?? Why, chaos would reign!!

You should have kept reading. There are some reasonable ideas in there that would both help the entertainers and the combat classes (and the droid engineers).

As I told someone arguing hard to put NPC entertainers in cantinas all the time, there has to be a little give and take on both sides if it's going to work. Tosteal a line from the musical 1776, "Revolutions come into this world likebas-tard children, Mr. Dickinson - half improvised and half compromised".

If you would see your cause of removing the AFK Buff Bots brought to a successful end, it may help to discuss ideas that will make as many people happy as possible.

Glad to see TH is staying the course. I've posted a few suggestions on how to make ents easier to find in his thread.

I wouldn't worry about NPCs replacing entertainers. That's one of the core concepts of SWG, that there are no NPCs providing anything a player provides (except the bartenders with their watered down booze).

The issue isn't only battle fatigue though, it is Mind Buffs as well. As a rifleman and pvper, mind buffs are crucial. Plus when your overt, you can't go all over the galaxay looking for them.

Now you may have little sympathy for that fact, yet as you want sympathy for your plight, you should give it for others. The fact that I could go to 4 planets and spend an hour and STILL not find Master level musician buffs is why I started a second account.

When you log into the game as an Entertainer, you have a goal for the night, an agenda. Whether that is to socialize, make money or whatever. That is your plan. Your biggest complaint about afk people is that they interfere with that agenda.

The combatent who logs in, has an agenda as well. Whether that is to loot hunt, level, pvp or whatever else has has planned. Yet in order for him to do that, he first must find doc buffs, them Entertainer buffs. Then 2 hours later, Entertainer buffs again, then an hour later Doc buffs again. Meaning an hour later, he needs to get Entertainer buffs again.

Can you REALLY not see why combatents get frustrated? They get stuck in a vicuous circle where they are stuck running back to town nearly every hour just so they can hunt.

I realize this is a MMRPG, people should interact. Yet Entertainers, Combatants, Crafters, Everybody SHOULD be able to do "their agenda" for that night. Yes at off peak hours on some servers, it sucks when you can't do what you planned because other professions are not around.

One way the entertainers can help solve the buff problem is to start up entertainer chat channels (I believe some servers already have them). If you are looking fora buff ASAP or can't leave a certain area, offer enough credits and someone will come buff you... will it cost you more than you'd like to pay? sure. Are combatants ever really hurting for cash? None of the ones I know.

I've played a rifleman. With and without buffs. Yes, dance and especially music buffs are a tremendous boon. Necessary for PVP.However, I never came to rely on them. I refuse to put myself in a position where I feel gimped because I don't have a specific crutch. I played very well, and gained acceptable XP fighting creatures and running missions that were within my skill.

If you feel that you simply cannot play your chosen profession without buffs, then it sounds as though your profession isbroken, and you should address THAT problem, and not the lack of a temporary boost.

Fett, your right. Yet if you want to hunt high levle stuff, you are force to spam special after special. Meaning you must have buffs.

I don't want a crutch either, that is why I made my second account a Musician. We have plenty of docs, so when I fight, I am always at peak efficiency. No reason to go at half power. Can I kill Quenkers at half power? Sure. Can I kill Nightsisters? Not really.

People just assume that buffbot owners are doing it to be rude or make a profit. The sad reality is, we did it because there were no living alternatives.

In that case I'd like an NPC that will go out and mine the resources I need for me. Good resource dealers are in short supply and I don't have good enough survey skills to get anywhere doing it myself. Its only fair that if combat types get NPC buffers (which are what buffbots are) crafters should get NPC surveyors. NPC combatants might be nice for those that need loot drops. Something that could go out and kill some krayts for me so I could get some krayt pearls. Can never seem to find someone that will go out hunting for kraytpearls to sell me at a reasonable price, so its only fair I have an NPC that can do it for me....

This is about as much sense as your argument makes.

The difference is that Harvestors DO harvest for you while you are AFK.

You DON'T need surveying to find resources. Simply look on SWG craft and drop harvestors, pick em up mov it drop again until you find a spot. How about the fields of Static lot swap Harvestors?

Vendors sell things while others are afk.

You CHOOSE a profession that needs resources, you have lots and the ability to get them yourself.

A combatent has no choice. He MUST get BF healed. If he is pvping or fighting high level stuff, he MUST have mind buffs, or die.

Jenden, you seem to think I am pro buff bot, I am not. I want buff bots to go. Yet I don't feel simply getting rid of them is the answer, you need to address why there is a need for them to begin with.

I'm not in favor of NPC buffers either. I'm in favor of fixing the problem.

Every profession has problems, it is the developers job to fix those problems in such a manner that they do not lessen the playing experiance of other professions.
