Thread: Observation: Musicians and Xp

Our musicians were mentioning last night how they raise their music skill so much lower than dancers, because they can hardly ever use their highest level song since we are always letting younger entertainers to join us. Last night we were going to let a couple of players join us who only had star wars 1, but we asked them to go in the back of the room and practice so that everyone else could use music 3. This would've let them get the bonus xp, but not be heard. Well, they didn't like that idea and they started a group of young musicians/dancers (prostitutes *moan*) right in front of us. Didn't matter that much about their group, because everyone in that city knows us and comes there to hear us, but have any other musicians been running into this type of situation?

yeah... the worst part about "5 Minute Musicians" is teaching them to band flourish... ::twitch::

i have encountered that problem, but i just deal... invite them in, and bring myself down. Even though the xp is lower, its still more fun (and more credits than breaking off), and you come across as an all around nicer player.

But hey, thats just me. :^D

This will not work. You cannot have two songs going on simultaneously in the same group--the game enforces this. (Note that there is a work-around currently, but it is a BUG and is likely to be fixed soon.)

I have encountered the situation of novice entertainers wanting to join the band that's playing folk, for example. In fact, it happens an awful lot. What bugs me about many of them is that they are 5 minute musicians. They train entertainer, come to the cantina, want to join the band (who have to adjust to accomodate), and then they stop playing and leave 5 minutes later never to be seen again. lol

But what I generally do is if it's just me playing, I give them my spot in the group. I'll leave and solo for a bit (perhaps with a couple dancers). Reason being, I can generally gain more exp solo playing my best song than with a group playing starwars1. When I'm able to play bandfill, that method will change and I will be happy to join in playing starwars1 because then at least I can contribute something unique.

i run in to this a ton! I am constantly training fourishes and levels for free while playing something low that makes less tips... yes more players usually means more tips but not if its the same boring song people here over and over. With experianced players at least you can make a truely great song and good show. I had a young group get infront of mine but alas pple listend to us anyway heh. I think that if the band is known enough, then it is time to move the well known bands to other benifitial but non newb/ 5min player area's. I have been thinking heavly about switching to the hotel in bestine. It's a great place for entertainers and customers alike. I think that if your a well known group people will still come there and grow as the word spreads and if your not in the 'cantina' then you can nicely ask the other band to leave because you've gone out of your way to not interfear with them. Further my group is planning to buy our own club then only who we want can play. Thats all on this subject.

You can always find the Awi Weu experiance featuring: the FAmous Fat Wookie Band in the bestine cantina till we go on the road/ open our club.

Occasionally I read really old posts to find ironic things... This one caught my eye.

This was posted June of 2003 and the fix for it only went in in Publish 9, if I remember correctly...

Methinks it kinda says something about the attention we didn't get between that time.

Wow, talk about a blast from the past. Hijo was a very active poster for the first few weeks of the game, but he must've quit or moved onto another profession, because I don't see him around these days. He was a good poster.

Hehe, I dimly recall that the devs did make some sort of effort to fix the two-tunes-at-once bug. It did improve a little in some way or another. Maybe. It's been a long time.

Incidentally, if anyone's looking for me, I'll be offline for the better part of a day while I travel back to the mainland from planet Hawaii.

Blast from the past indeed, NJ

I never tested it, but you were supposed to get increased xp if playing your highest level song or using your highest level instrument in a group. Remember that was supposed to have happend because we were all being gated from XP when letting lower level musicians join in the group when we ourselves were just higher level musicians.

But it is a fact that many, many people are tired of the "starter songs" so some folks will not go down to play the lower level songs anymore.

On another note........Hijo, is that youor a ghost? Some sort of weird time/space rip in the fabric of time thing going on here? Its been a looooong time since we have seen any of your posts. Did you quit the game for awhile or have you just been a non-poster for a long time now? in any event its nice to see your name. I used to feel you and Waho, and a few others whom I can't recall off the top of my head, used to be allies during that time known to us as the .......

As far as I'm aware, if you're playing your highest instrument, what you are playing doesn't effect xp (With the notable exception of Knowledge I and Music II.

There have been a lot of myths with entertainers about what does what for xp and healing. Some of them are true, some are not. The biggest one I'm suspect of (But haven't tried to actively disprove) is the level of other entertainers in the group affecting xp.
