Thread: Where is being a Musician fun for you?...

Now that I am working my way up to be a full blown musician, I am curious. Where is it fun for you to play at? I remember back when I first started, Anchorhead was an exciting place. Fightins breaking out in the cantina all the time. Plenty of people in and out. Now, on my server atleast, it's a ghost town. Mainly because of AFK entertainers and the developers blatant disregard for the GCW.

So tell me. Where is it fun for you?...

All my friends spend at least some time in the Theed cantina . Your Theed experience may differ.
That, and random outdoor locations when I'm waiting around for something.

It varries widely by server. Theed is the place to play for real entertainers on Tarquinas since Coronet is crowded with buffbots and spammers. Its also fun to get random concerts going in odd places (we've got one comming up on the balcony of the theed med center soon, its a great location).

Wherever I am playing.

Cantinas, starports, out in the middle of nowhere...

I have been very happy when I am working in Bestine. Its always been few AFKers. A lot of people I know seem to stroll through everyone once in while. They all love the fact that I am there and I am live. I think they all know I like fulfilling the song requests. I'll switch songs if I see someone walk in and I know their favorite song. Its really the best place on my server. I just wish I could be there more often for them.

Then again, I like to say that I bring the fun with me. I tastefully badger AFKers wherever I go. I always do my best to put on a show with a good variety of songs. I'll bring out the special effects droid every once in a while. A total party atmosphere in every cantina I visit.

For me its not location, its the level of traffic.

That's the key there. On Wanderhome its about half n' half in Theed. Sometimes its no or not many afk'ers, sometimes only afk'ers. I avoid Coronet like the plague. Correction, Coronet Cantina, the starport and where the docs out fornt of starport can be fun. Dantooine Mining Outpost see's a lot of traffic, but not always a fun place, people there are to buff and get to the cash grinding, of course that can alter depending on my own moods.

At the master level as a musician I strongly suggest finding a group of people that hunt together, and go out with them. So few people experience hearing some good sw1 with a mandoviol while there fighting, really helps bring out the Entertainer profession in my opinion. Not to mention (esp with a large group) your guaranteed to get healing xp when a camp is pitched or you all stop by a pa cantina / hall / house or in a static city cantina. And because you being there a) with friends and b) to aid in focus / willpower buffs, healing quicktime (especially the docs and medics) minds in camps, and quick BF healing in solid structures, they let you get a fair chance of getting some high end loot you will never ordinarily see.

This is one way I have managed to "beat" the buffbot's. If the live entertainer is actually WITH the people looking for them when they wear off....well they have a doc with them usually, and now a master musician? No going back to cities ever...huge points if you pick up a combat profession too. But personally I am a pure enertainer, music, entertainer, and working on master ID, and some business thrown in for my music shop...and I can still be a valued part of a hunting group. Hope this helps, Cheers!

Anywhere two or more LIVE entertainers have gathered. I am a social person. As long as I have someone to talk to, entertaining is fun. A good audience is only a secondary concern these days...

Among the places I've entertained with live ents...

Theed (In the cantina and streets)

Countless Player City Cantinas

Endor Smuggler Outpost (Very up close and personal atmosphere)

Vreni Island (Best place for band screen shots... period!)

Starports and shuttles (If there is a wait... I am playing. We've even gathered at starports specifically to entertain.)

Manyweddings, gigs and events, in town halls and PA halls...

NPC city Theatres and Hotels (These are so underused!)

Krayt Grave Yard (Once... it is thrilling to play a nalgaron in a ribcage...)

For me it's not the location either. It is the audience. I have the most fun playing when the audience is having fun them self and is showing it. When the audience use the /dance or the like.

It varies on Chimeara - could be Theed one day, Bestine the next - one of our entertainers, Lum, has created a chat channel so we can communicate to find out where the hotspot for 'live' entertainers is that night.

Also, towards the end of the night, winding down in the cantina in my player city, Sunfall, with friends gathered there as they return from whatever they've been off doing is... priceless, to be honest.

The amazement coming from a person that hears Jazz or Virtuoso for the first time and exclaims "I've never heard that song!" And you nod and smile, remembering what it was like grouped in Coronet and having to bump down to Rock to help the new guy get experience. What a long way you've come since then.

Yeah...

And that amazement gets still larger when they hear those songs (or ceremonial too) from a full band with all instruments represented, and with synchronized (i.e. non-random) flourishes that actually sound good. So performing with the band I'm part of would definitely be my favorite way to have fun

But like so many others here, I can have fun in most places where a few friends are gathered. I know quite a lot of ATK entertainers, and they are slowly starting to reclaim Theed and Bestine cantinas as Publish 10 approaches. Two days ago I wandered into Theed cantina at 10pm with the intention of logging there right away... saw a few friends, joined their group (only 4 of us, and a droid), flirted with a pretty Twi'lek dancer for a while, talked about a lot of stuff on groupchat, and when I finally tore myself away, an hour had passed... and it's things like these that make this game and this profession so much fun to me

I always liked playing in Mos Entha. Back in the day (August '03) there used to be a band there most nights with a cool atmosphere. Now, like everywhere else except Theed and Coronet, it's a ghost town. Shame.
