Thread: a sad representation of the state of our profession

while doing an almost ritualistic performance of ceremonial for a good friend of mine in theed's cantina, the local buffbot logged in and was tottaly flabergasted at the sight of me with the comment along the lines of 'ive never seen a nalargon before' and then proceeded to listen to me play for about 5 minutes to hear what it sounded like... bear in mind that this particular buffbot is a master musician, master dancer and has been for at LEAST 2 months solid that i can personally verify as thats how long ive been back in the game and she has been there the whole time with her buffbotmacro spam.

on a side note and a reminder of what the majority of the player population thinks of us, while doing this performance and chatting all the while... the non-entertainer group member that was just standing around was asked by MANY players passing by for a group invite to get the buffs from me and the other master musician i was grouped with... yet, even though me and him were chatting in spatial... we were never directly asked to buff anyone... its like they thought it was our soul purpose to do nothing but be an npc and offer buffs without needing to ask....

And people have the audacity to say that buffbots aren't hurting the game. Unfortunately, this same trend is going on on Tempest. Since Ohso the buffbot took up residency in the Mining Outpost on Dantooine, the average patron interraction consists of "invite", "buff", and the occasional "invite plz".

I just wish they would make up their minds about unattended play. Either it's wrong and they do something about it, or simply remove Thunderheart's post pretending to care about it. As it is, I'm about ready to report TH's post, as it seems to be for no purpose than to start flame wars and anti-entertainer sentiment.

Buffbots hurt the way players treat us the most. As do the afk players. Its not so much that i lose money to the buffbots but i get treated like an npc without any respect. What amazes me most is that when i demand to be treated like a player character (i do demand it in a nice way) I get even more lip from the other characters.

You have to be careful with that - I've had random people walk into the cantina, ask for an invite, and then proceed to go to the front room and listen to someone for a free buff. People are always looking for ways to do a scam. What's pathetic is that they then go and make a few hundred thousand credits, which begs the question - does 5,000 credits or whatever really matter that much? Heck, I get my mind healed up by others sometimes just to do something with my credits. Otherwise they just sit around - I mean, money's for spendin, otherwise why have it?

There is no doubt whatsoever that buffbots are destroying our place in the game. They've reduced us to NPC's in the minds of the game's community - that's a serious problem, and one that will cause irrepairable damage to us unless it's stopped ASAP. Something really does need to be done. Cantinas are now grind houses. Only a handful of people seem to come into the cantina, unless it's Coronet, and then in Coronet it's only to get healed maybe, but the buffing is still left to whatever bots people go to now.

It's all truly sad. I abandoned the idea of making any kind of living in this game from my music a long time ago. When I do go in a cantina, I sit and think afterwards, "how would I survive in this game if I didn't make droids...I just spend 4 hours in a cantina and didn't make 1 credit."

I'm sorry to say, but I honestly feel that due to us being ignored and having our troubles cast aside, our professions are struggling to retain any resemblance to a viable profession in the game. That is, unless you're a buffbot - that's sickening.

Only a few months ago I could sit in Theed cantina and make at least 50,000 on a good night. I made over 200,000 the night the Corvette went Live, buffing in Coronet Cantina.

I don't think I've topped 20,000 in the past couple months. One night, it was like all the customers just disappeared, and I was left with a sea of macroers and the occasional buffbot in the corner. It's all gotten way out of hand.

heheh if it's any comfort to you, Warryyr,I went to the Coronet Cantina (Starsider--Tralmek)a few days ago and tipped 150k to every live Entertainer there. I was prepared to spend a few million credits, but I only endedup giving out 600k. I could have thrown your numbers off a tad if you'd been there....

Funny thing really was when I got /tells from the people asking why I tipped so much and wondering if I was involved in a creddupe. I had a great time explaining to one dancer why I would tip her so much just for being live. /sigh "Good" times.

(oh, and for the record, I'm not involved in a credit dupe. )

Heheh and a side benefit of this post...having the words "credit dupe" here will probably bring an official SOE eye to the Music forums.

Heh! I do that, too - I run into a cantina, and yell, "hey you guys! Who's alive? Speak up!" And the people who reply get mad tips. Then I get some healing from one of em, then tip some more, and chat with people, and whoever is the most funny, or entertaining, or interesting gets a bonus tip and then I'm off like a lightning bolt! Heh. I love credits - but not as much as I love giving them away

Heh, then we could have had tip wars and see who won
