Thread: Kind of glad I'm not a master musician at the moment

What with my penance still going on, I just hit my last music xp box, and have very small amounts of it. This means I'm not getting the new song for a while. This means I'm not stressing about getting the quests done quickly.
It reminds me of why I'm doing my penance in the first place. The only reason I AFK'ed back before I knew any better was so that I could get my hands on all the instruments and all the songs, since I love music and wanted to have options at my disposal to try different sounds out. And that was my goal in the game, and so I AFK'ed (though had I known how much of an impact AFKing has on the community, I wouldn't have).
I'm seeing some people on this board getting very upset because of the failed quests and the 24 hour timer. Much more upset than I like to see my fellow musicians (though, granted, it's not an uncommon state, given what we go through). I'm relieved for myself that I'm taking the quests on my own peaceful pace, kind of letting them happen as they happen. Meaning that when I need to get x amount of people to listen me, I go on and continue playing as if I'm not in a quest, and just keep my eye on the system messsages that pop up in case someone listens to me. No begging or *shudder* travelling to coronet or anything special. And meaning that when I did my first performance mission (only one I've done so far), I just kind of played various songs, didn't worry about spamming flourishes, and made sure to spend a bit of time on the one requested song I heard. Pretty much as if I were playing some music for my friends in a camp, just tried to play some interesting stuff (including several base riffs instead of flo'd riffs). Turns out it seems to fit what the devs coded, as I passed without a problem.
Anyways, I know what it's like to want to get your hands on the new music right away, but I hope people don't stress about it so much that it starts ruining their gameplay when the 24 hour timer should kick in. Achieve your zen and come jam with me to pass the time; I won't be playing Western for quite a while .

So you have to be a master musician to get the new song, well i guess i wont even bother with the quest, Theres no way Anderick will make master hes town mayor and has to have somefighting abilitiy to make some cash.

He just used music to get away and jam for while and hang out and chat with friends. He never did anything to make money, just to have fun.

You don't have to be a Master Musician to get the new song. You can do the quests at Novice Musician, but you'll need 400K stored XP to actually learn the song, which means you'll have to have more than just Novice to learn it -- but you don't need Master.

Me, I failed the quest once, but I finally won it today, and I enjoyed it. I think the quest is great, and I absolutely love the song.

Yeah, sorry if I was misleading. The comment about master is particular to me, just in that I don't have the required xp ready yet, since I've been using it on my way to master.

You have the right attitude Aleyo. There will always be people who B&M because they can't have it all right when they want it (now), but don't let that scare you into thinking it's any harder or more stressful than it is. Personally, I had a great time doing the quest... promotion and all. To be honest, I wish there was more to it. I was kind of hoping I would have to travel to different planets to perform for judges and audiences in some shady, out-of-the-way cantinas, but that wasn't the case. Heh Anyway keep up the good work.

I managed to get the song on my first try through the quest. I think i just got lucky. I love the song and I like the idea behind the quest. It needs some tweaking though.

Even if the quest is aggravating the new song is worth it.

I know that you have to have a skill tree of 4 to be able to get the 400K xp to learn it - but when it is learned, Do you have to be a Master Musician to play Western?
Or can you just be a Novice Musician?
And what if you drop musician skill boxes after learning Western, can you still play Western if you are Novice Musician or even entertainer?
Thanks!

You could be a musician and playing your heart out, but you are new to the game and you just hit novice musician last night. "Wow, great, I get to do the new quests and get the awesome new song everyone's talking about! Oh crud, I need 400k xp? I can't even hit that until I spend tons more xp on my skillboxes to become a better musician.. but I already did the quest! /pout" (So yeah, despite the fact that I'm playing tons of music, it's gonna take me a while to hit the 400k xp mark).
As to your question, no, you don't need to be Master to play, and I can make educated guesses that you'd still be able to play Western at Novice Musician at least. I'd be less likely to believe you could play it below there, since you're required to be Novice Musician to take the quest (right?). Another question being, if you drop, and then re-learn musician, do you still have the song? I'd imagine so. Guess this is something that I can test on TC, with the blue froggies. Or that someone's already tested.
Any answers, fellow musicians?

My assumption is that you wouldn't lose Western until you surrendered Novice Musician, but I'm kinda reluctant to test that assumption. In theory, I could test it on TC because I do have the Correspondent Terminal there. But, dedicated though I am to our profession, I'm pretty reluctant to give up Western there to test this.

Hmm, perhaps I'll show up our correspondent and test this myself then .
Won't be too much trouble getting 400k xp with a nalargon 'in hand,' and I'll do the whole begging thing to get through the quests quickly. Might be a couple days before I can start on this though, due to some RL crud.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried handing a scroll to another Musician and letting them read it? Are quest completion and the item linked, thats what im wondering. I may be opening a horrible can of worms by asking this, since I envision buffbots buying scrolls from novices *shudder*

I agree with Aleyo- this quest is challenging and I don't think that it was ever intended to be do-able in an hour or two. If you do it over time - its enjoyable and natural. Yes you actually have to get lots of xp (but if you are a musician why aren't you playing anyways?) and you need people to watch you (get some of your entertainer, guild or other friends to watch you if you like and/or just stand in a reasonably active cantina and greet everyone who comes in (with either a Hi, nod, smile or whatever your character's style is) and you'd be surprised how many of them /listen to you on their own (and how many tips you'll make!). It may take some time i.e. hours but why is that a bad thing?

The neat part about the quest is that for the promotions part, its just ongoing and doesn't reset or can't be failed so its easy to do along with whatever else you'd normallybe doing. Same with the xp requirement.

My favorite part of the quest is theperformances though. The good chance of failing only heightens my stress (in a good way) and actually succeeding is incredibly exciting YAY!!!!!!! Before theperformances I clean off my entire computer desk (so nothing will bump my mouse or keyboard) set up a specific quickbar and set up a strategically located pad of paper and marker with a big + colum and - column and quickly write down songs and flos (songs by the first letter and number if appropriate i.e. s3 for starwars3) and flos by the number in the correct column as I'm /conv ing with the audience.

so in conclusion I LOVE this quest because its so challenging and unique! But maybe the SWG should have included a warning - "Do not expect to do this quest in one evening. May take months or more. If you are impatient, please do not attempt. Most rewarding when time istaken to enjoy."

Question :

The Western songisn't specifically for Master Musicians only, I'm 4-1-4-1 in musician and I've learned it
