I just mastered entertainer and beat the quest. Is it going to take me a long time to get box IV of musical knowledge and the 400K banked xp? Just wondering...

I took my time Mastering Musician (started in August, Mastered in December), but the Music xp comes pretty fast when you're having fun. There are reports of live Entertainers Mastering Musician in as little as two weeks, and assuming (falsely) that it would take 1/4 the time to complete the knowledge tree that would make it about 3-4 days to do that. Heheh if you ever get bored, you could figure out your xp per tic & from there figure your time to finishing the next box in knowledge.

*warns the dancers not to read the rest of this post*

There were times when I got just a tad bored doing the dancer lines so I did calculate my time to completing each box of dancer. It's kind of fun for a little bit, and by the time you've done a few figures someone's bound to come into the cantina so you can talk to them to alleviate your boredom.

Technically you do not need to get box 4 of Musical Knowledge.

You could get box 1 and bank in box 1 up to 500K. However, the XP awards at say MK3 are much better than MK1 so its then a question of whether or not learning the new skills will speed it up enough to compensate for spending 525K more XP before you start banking for the 400K.

There is a chart in another thread (actually a couple) that describes how much XP you get per tick for each instrument and song.

With double flos you will get 21on traz, 30 for Bandfill, 35 on Chid and 40 XP on Ommni per tick. This does not include group bonuses, listener bonuses, or "/clap" bonuses. These numbers in a good group can as much as triple. As it is so late, I do not feel my algebra is up to solving for time..........but........... If you go up all 4, at base it will be 10,000 ticks or 27.78 hours, however you would need to spend 11.57 hours getting Music Know 1, another 11.57 for Music 2, 13.88 for music 3, and 17.86 for music 4. So...at a minimum.....82.66 hours that way. The other way....you spend the 11.57 getting Music1 then grind straight for the 400K.....so 11.57 for Music 1 and 37.04 hours for the 400K or 48.61 hours total. Dang I did solve for T.

If all you want is the song and you are not doing the rest of music, its a bit more thanHALF the time to bypass going for MK 2-4. If you are going to do them anyway, it will save greatly on the time needed to get the songAND MK4 to do MK4 first.

***DO NOTE***

The numbers listed above are approximate and do not factor bonuses for groups and such, OR lack of action to be able to play constantly.

I thought the xp cap forced me to go all the way up to box IV? Has this been changed?

No......

People were quoting XP caps out of their nether regions.

I just finished tests yesterday and determined the caps to be:

  • Nov Music - 350K

  • MK1 - 500K

  • MK2 - 700K* *untested but assumed because it is known that.....

  • MK3 - 900K

The MK2 assumption is due to the fact that it seems that all the other music XP caps are 4X the XP requirement for the next box. It is unconfirmed, butI believe the original XP requirements were double what they are now making this a logical 2X cap. I recall seeing it in an early game guide book published near launch.

But.....

As Tralmek said.......if you are doing this to be a musician, take the time and enjoy it. If all you want is the song....well then sprint for that finish line.

My main goal is the song. I was also wondering that if my skill point limits due to combat and master entertainer only allow me to get musican 3.0.4.0 would I just be a greedy crap musician? I mean I am doing those boxes for the sparkly effects and most songs instruments for my points. If I don't care about the healing at all is that backwards?

I know musicians who have gone 4000 and some who have gone 0040.

4000 is the highest buff value short of master, 0040 has the most songs and instruments. Unfortunately I know many more musiciansat 4000 than at 0040. Doesn't matter...I still buff at 123% a MINIMUM of 23% higher if they have a full set of tapes.

The healing comes pretty fast anyway. Most of the time your customers have no idea how long BF and wounds actually take to heal anyway, so as long as they see progress on those you should be ok with the customers.

It may be a tad pessimistic of me but if you only want that song all the time grinding spent...well once you get the song you'll be happy a day or two...then the joy will wear off and your time is gone for what....

But hey whatever floats your boat as they say...

Well, if you can't afford the skill points to go up the Knowledge tree past MK1, then your tactic makes a lot of sense. Me, I'd rather have more tunes than a 75% buff.
