OK, I could tolerate these spamming fools for awile, but now I'm irritated. I have just begun the entertainer quest and am at the stage where I must entertain 20 players. It's extremely hard to do this when everyone runs to the freakin' buffbot. I'm not even sure what the reason is to have an afk buffer. What's the benefit? It may help out those who need buffs, but it seriously hurts those of us who actually want to play this profession while sitting at our computers! It's removing the need for the profession and it's ruining the fun for entertainer players.
My advice to the devs is this: please do something about afk-entertaining or simply remove the entertainer professions all together and insert terminals or droids that can buff and heal mind. I know the afk-entertaining is a known issue with the devs so my post isn't to point a finger it's more another voice in the choir of change.
Thanx...just so frustrated I needed to vent
Just like a musician, eh? lol

I sympathise, however, to get the listeners go to a busy starport (i did theed front steps) and politley explain to people your doing the ent quest and need people to listen for a couple of secs. Almost evryone who loaded in listened when I did this (individually thanking them in spatial afterwards helped (dont spam to much tho, be patient). You will be surprised how helpful players can be

Yep... and if you play the starport, those who don't have JTL who still have to wait for shuttles often appreciate having someone there entertaining to help pass the waiting time. When I was there playing music to get my quest listeners, I made 200k in tips in the couple hours I was getting my 30 listeners, and even had a doc hire me to come play for him while he was buffing there, because he liked the music in an otherwise boring job for him. Plus he asked all his customers to listen to me while they waited in line, and encouraged them to tip for the entertainment while they waited. Made another good friend that day!

I RP'd the request to listen, by doing a
/think I really hope people listen to me, so that Theater Manager doesn't fire me! It only takes a moment of listening!
People often listened, and some did tip a little. Because it was a thought, there was no need to interact,RP-wise - people just listened and then went on their way. Some sent a /tell asking why I needed people to listen to me.
Coronet starport, by the Ticket Collector, is where I got folks to listen to me. It happened pretty fast. Avoid any light shows or anything, people get upset enough about the spam - and they freak out over effects and stuff due to lag. I've never had much of a lag issue, but who knows what kind of computer they're using.

I sympathize too, Serk. FWIW, the afk-buffer doesn't necessarily provide this "service" as a charity. The AFK'er knows that many people won't tip, but some do, and buffbots often claim to have gotten rich in this way.
We had an impromptu Crawl to the Theed starport on Chilastra a few weeks ago, and performing /bandflo'd dances in the entryway was lots of fun. We attracted a quite sizeable audience. Some were puzzled: "why are you doing this?", they wanted to know. But most people seemed to find it actually (gasp) entertaining.

I would love to organize a bunch of Musicians or Dancers (or a mix of both) into a circle around that fountain in Theed spaceport. Have a bunch of bandflos, so we're all coordinated. That would look sweet.

I actually did this and it worked like a charm! I didn't spam at all, just asked travelers fora quick listen. People didn't mind doing this at all! What gave me the idea was that I was in the cantina in Bestine and thought to myself "I'm supposed to be promoting myself. How do I do that in an emptycantina?" So I went out and did a little "traveling minstrel"RP and boom-bam...mission complete!

I did my 30 at Coronet starport, and sent tells to people standing by the ticket droid as they arrived. It went very quickly.

this does work, i did this at tyrennia, even at a less poplulated starport you can get the 30 listeners in a few hours.

I also did my quest in Coronet, I didn't ask anyone to listen, but it still only took a few hours to get the 30. I did greet people though and ask if they had any music requests, which did get people to listen. There were some people who thanked me for the music when the shuttle came which was nice.
The biggest burst of listens came after someone asked me if I was there grinding for Jedi and I said no
