/sigh Ok, NewJedi. I'm doing this for you. I'm not even doing this for me anymore, I'm worn out and with my foot halfway over the line of don't-care-anymore. And that should be the most telling point of all.

Dear Developers;

I've been playing Star Wars Galaxies since Beta3. I started out with high hopes...I'm sure we all did. The very first character I ever created had a base class of Medic and became an Entertainer within 10 minutes. I had to go through serious contortions to get a slitherhorn to play with when they weren't craftable, because /addignore didn't work and I couldn't stomach the lapdance comments I got for being a dancer.

I have been a Musician ever since. There was a very brief period where I dropped all Entertainer skills to pursue Bio-Engineering and maintain some other basic functional abilities...but I missed being a Musician so much that I sacrificed my ability to protect myself or survey for the resources I needed as a bio-engineer in orderto get my music back.

It's been pretty obvious the whole time that the Entertainer classes were never a top priority. From the get-go we've been made to feel as though we were nothing but window-dressing to get players' girlfriends into the game long enough to shut up and let their boyfriends have fun with the professions that actually mattered. I hope you can understand that having been made to feel like a second-rate healer and a lazy macroer by both the developers and the player base all these many months, I've built up a little bit of bitterness.

With all that said, there are some glaring issues that really, really, really impinge on my gameplay that I'd like to bring to your attention:

  1. Fatigue healing outside cities - whether you put it into Ranger field bases or a droid, I don't care. This is the biggest get-your-fanny-back-in-the-cantina-and-make-me-a-sandwich thing in the game. This is what makes me feel like I don't matter. I don't want to hear another whine about "We want to make cantinas social spots" and have you try to hold the rest of the player population hostage using me as the damn gun. People can and will be social...but it's got the taste of canned laugh-tracks in sitcoms the way you try and jam it down our throats.

  2. Crafting - This is actually a biggie for me. I want it to matter when I experiment on my instruments. I actually have +25 Instrument Assembly, which was not easy to come by. Either make it cost less Action to play or heal Fatigue faster, for a well-made instrument. Or even add to Musical Mind Enhancement, though I'm sure you'd never do that.(I don't give a rat's ass about Mind Wound healing, I have so many bio-enhanced clothes it's ridiculous.) And I want to be able to craft a recording of myself, either dancing or playing, that can function as a sort of 'stimpack' when used in a venue where I could play if I were actually there. I've made my suggestions on this before, I'm not going to go over it again. At Master level, I think I should be able to make a recording long enough to buff someone if I do it right (190 seconds for those of you with no clue...so maybe make it 200 seconds at master level).

  3. Apply Mind Enhancements (buffs) to yourself - It's just another slap-in-the-face reminder of how little we matter, that we can't do this.

  4. Mind Enhancement (buff) interface window - to know when it's actually applied to a target. As has been said...finish what you started with this feature. It's very nice. There's a reason to stay a Master Musician now. But it's still half-assed at this point.

  5. Quests and missions- I don't know of a single thing I can do in the Galaxy as a musician, that only a musician can do, that results in something a musician would want. The missions are jokes and you know it. That's been gone over so many times it's as laughable as the missions themselves. How about a small sub-quest as part of the Jabba themepark, where we could talk to Max Reebo and get a schematic for Fiery Figrin Da'an's Fizzz, with +5 Musical Mind Enhancement, +5 Battle Fatigue Healing (Music) and +5 Wound Healing (Music)? Or something like that. Something that would end up as the equivalent for musicians of the Exquisite Dancer's Leotard (which is insulting in and of itself, being female-only...but the Dancers are going to have to take that up with you). Or if you can't manage to make an instrument recognizable to the system with skill mods, a backpack schematic for an Instrument Case with those modifiers. And make it use just one Portion of Heavy Duty Leather and one Heavy Duty Clasp, since all those poor sods who get odd lots of leather can't do a ruddy thing with the extras. Or a belt, or a bandolier, or gloves, or whatever.

There's more, of course. It would be nice if we were included in the GCW. I might actually participate in it if we were. I think our healing abilities should have to be targetted to work, like medical skills. The Theater building is a waste of 3 lots as anything other than a sniper outpost. We know new songs have been done for months and no one's had the time or inclination to work on incorporating them into the game. That we have six different horns with only two different sounds for them is tiresome beyond belief. The mandoviol being in Master Entertainer is a sore spot that needs to be addressed. You know unattended, macroed entertaining is an issue; making the FSCS questable won't banish that, it'll just reduce the volume.

I only hope significant improvements are made before everyone leaves for Worlds of Warcraft, Lineage II and City of Heroes. Once all my friends are off playing other games...the last thing keeping me here will be gone. People are what keep me playing, especially when the framework in which I met those people isn't engaging enough to keep my attention.

Sincerely,

Tarot, Master Musician, Skilled Dancer and Master Heavy Swordswoman of Starsider

Thank you for telling us just exactlly how unimportant we are to you. Really, I mean it. Of course, since you said in your post that you were only doing it because the holo told you too . . .

You may not understand the importance of the issues to those who are serious about entertaining, but that does not meanthey are not important. I constantly hear complaints that there are no entertainers availableto heal BF, and guess why?

My issues:

1. The buff system. It needs more control, and self buffing should be included.

2. More flourishes and songs.

3. More variance in intruments and sounds, a wider selection of sounds. Brass, strong brass, more strings, and drums.

4. AFK Entertainers. The observation that this is the only profession which allows AFK effects is true, but it is also true that without it, there would be problems for many players. Allow healing from AFK, but reduce the rate and the xp earned.

5. Nalagorn and Omni box targetting problem.

  • please make instrument quality have some influence on something (I want to be able to take pride in my crafting like all other professions that can craft)

  • please allow us to buff ourselves

  • please fix the player owned theater (will happily supply bugs if asked to)

  • please give us profession specific clothing (i.e. necktie, tuxedo, marching uniform! [preferably rare])

  • many of our instruments sound exactly the same [please fix this]

  • any chance of us getting a casino? (if not, please let the smugglers have it )

  • do a good job on our upcoming special effects droids

  • do a good job on our upcoming social quests!

  • improve the functionality of registering in a cantina

Thanks for all these now posts. Special thanks to you, Echinacea, for hanging in there. Your #5 item is maybe my #2 item: Musician-oriented quests. It sounds like we'll finally get some of this with the "Social Adventure" that's coming, but I have no idea how extensive it will be.

I had the deadline wrong; TH wants my submission by tomorrow (the 9th). So there's still time for a few more last-minute lists before I tally them tomorrow.

Hm, well, I hope I still have time to squeeze this in. I couldn't settle for top 5...I have a top six.

1) Omni Box/Nalg. selection bug: I can't tell you how many times I've kicked my box because I tried to smile at someone. Oh, and let's not forget those unfortunates how come along and decide to steal your box when you are trying to play it.

2) More distinct horn sounds: why can't we have a solo brass sound? (maybe its in an instrument I can't play yet?)

3) Theater Fix: How can you put on a pretty stage production without props? It would be nice to heal there too. We don't get many venues for traditional dances and music and theater happens to be the perfect back drop.

4) Fix problems with band commands: /stop, /changeb, /startb, etc. need I say more?

5) Take away group bonus xp to put the control of entertaining back into live players.

PS...for those of you don't know, you can bandflo afk-macrotainers as long as they have bandflo on. This might hurt them if you try do too many bandflo at one time, but if you take it easy you both get the xp you want and you can practice writing songs for a band

6) Entertainer Feedback: messaging system for buffing and for healing when xp is already maxed and the xp messages go away.

OK, I've tallied the results from this thread and reported them to TH. I've edited the very first post of this thread to include the text of my report. Please feel free to offer constructive criticism in this thread, but understand that it's not a list of my personal top five-issues; I simply "counted the votes" and reported the top issues cited by all of you collectively.

FWIW, at this point, I think it's more likely we'll get an answer to these top issues than to our "Top 10 Questions," and indeed you'll see that most of the issues raised in those questions are raised again in this top-five, especially since I also gave TH our numbers 6-through-14 issues. So I plan to focus on getting the devs to reply promptly to our top five.

NJ on issue number one i would like to comment... while we know new songs are in the works for pub 10, 1-3 new songs is hardly acceptable after what will have been 14months of waiting. I feel that point should be made clear. What we need is almost to double the amount of songs if we are going to have to wait over a year again which i think we all know we will.

Do we know we're only getting 1 to 3 songs with the Social Adventure? I was hoping we'd get a bit more than that. The devs have always told me that "several" new songs are in the works, but they've never specified how many. I had been guessing four to five, which wouldn't be great but wouldn't be terrible either. Yes, ideal would be nine or ten more songs. Heck, ideal would be thirty more songs, but that won't happen anytime soon.
