Thread: Gig Missions are a joke and an Insult. Fix em or get rid of em
Lame.
I make almost all my money from the tips of people I entertain regularly. Occasionally on a slow day (not many hurt folks coming into the cantina) I used to take the gig missions offered by the nobles to augment my income (saving for a large house). I could usually generate 5-10k credits (about what I earn in tips) in the course of a day of playingthrough gig missions while still being in the cantina on a regular enough basis to support the needs of my listeners. Now I have become even more dependent on listeners as a source of income. I alredy have MM/ME so there is no longer the experience incentive to keep me there. I enjoy the interaction with other players in the cantina, but if I am forced to rely on them as my sole source of income it takes away from the fun of it all. Musicians/entertainers/dancers should be able to be self sufficient when it comes to money without being kneecapped by this (I hope to God it's a bug) extreme reduction in pay for gig missions. I should not have to take up a 3rd profession just to make money. Nor should I be able to make more money in a shorter time doing delivery missions in the same city in less time than a professional paying gig. Call me a crybaby if you like, but I want to be able to support my monetary needs in-game by using my primary profession and not relying on the charity of others. To paraphrase one poster, you might as well rename musician/dance/entertainer professions as beggar/vagrant/charity case if this change was made as intended.
Yah, these missions are a total joke. I don't know about the servers you all play on, but i can make more money playing in the cantina than i can from running these missions. Plus, i can hang out and socialize while i'm doing it! Which is not something you can do on a terminalgig mission.
Final summation: Nobody there, Laughable pay, no fun.
It's like we are talking to ourselves, the Devs aren't even given us a why the change is made... No communication... just check the devs forum, Devs barely there to communicate!
Either way I just didn't like the new way regardless there was a reason or not.
I always stated my reasons (Shuttle price vs Mission price, being one...and other reasons)
I hope the devs messup, intented to add 70% instead, they subtracted 70%...
So, Let's Petition have the old way back at least (400-600 standard), if not more (as 600-1000 incomes)!

* (600-1000 incomes as intented)
I don't see how a Musician gig is any easier than a deliver mission that pays 1000+ CR
Fora millions time, when are you Webmaster gonna ACT and put in a Edit button?
I am sorry I make spelling, grammar mistakes, but gee not having Edit functionis going to result in this, for a lot people!
always-> ready
as Intented -> as should.
What? Are ya'll nuts? I went and did these as soon as the patch went in!
200-400 credits per 15 minfor doing something I would allready be doing is GREAT!!!
Like some one allready said just take 2 in the town your in! No travel needed!
This is better than tips most of the time!!
If this gets nerfed cus of a few unhappy campers I will be PISSED!
Go to the mission terminal pick up two in town, preferably for the same location, preferably for the Cantina, since that's where everyone goes for their healing. Go to Cantina, do not stand at the waypoint and play, walk inside, anywhere inside. Play. You can still talk to the folks there, and you can even join the group. In other words do what you'd be doing in the Cantina anyway. Within 5-15 minutes you'll get a notification that your mission is complete, and your reward has been placed in your account. Repeat. Now, you've just made a couple hundred credits for what you were going to be doing anyway. This guarantees that you'll be paid something for your time, even if no one is tipping that day. Do I wish they paid more? Of course. But it's better than nothing, and good for the pure entertainers who don't do deliveries, or killing.
In real life there are literaly SEVERAL high paying musician jobs in the world. The vast majority of musicians who attemp to make their living by only playing music only have money for food, instruments and travel to the gigs. In 1997 Sugar Ray was booked on the Vans Warped tour for $600 a week for the whole band, they were locked in for the whole tour. About two weeks into the tour Fly broke huge, they had the highest charting song of anyone on the tour and got paid dirt plus food and transportaion.
There is an old joke. What do you call a musician without a girlfriend? Homeless.
I have a friend who took lessons from the acknowledged second best clasical guitar player in the world. An old man whose name now escapes me. My friend went to his home for the lessons and decided not to pursue guitar after highschool after seeing how the elite of the clasical guitar business live on what they are able to make.
Get a secondary profession if you want money. Don't expect to play for money, play because you love it or skip it and do something else.
Also try this, if you want to travel to whatever city, get a mission or two to that city. You are going there anyway, and that means buying a ticket, as an entertainer you are going to play when you get there anyway, defray the cost of your ticket and turn a profit each way. You can also go outside the cantina and get two missions for right inside the cantina, just steps away and they pay the same as missions accross the planet.
I'm thinking gig missions should be in line with delivery missions at least. It seems that explorer and artisanmissions are at least giving similar rewards to deliveries. I would enjoy actually getting paid something worthwhile to do a gig when I want to take a break from destroy missions.
As a side note..does anyone else seem to think many of these musician missions offered at the terminals are incredibly anti-imperial? It seemed like a rebel musician terminal to me. Half of the missions were "Insult the empire in song!" "I hear the emperor likes this kind of music, play the opposite and offend the imperials." Whenever I get a gig I talk to an imperial NPC and they set me up with something interesting.
Performing for high ranking COMPNOR officials or acting as a spy or replacing a rebel spy who was a musician and was taken out by troopers.
Sure get two missions paying 400 creds and play away in the cantina and socialize. Oh wait
there are other musicians here and they want to group. Oh no! Maybe i should play by myself and get the whole glorious 400 credits and maybe even take away customers from the other guys.......uhoh looks like they want to jam since I am ona Narg. Gee i guess i better team up with them. UHOH my mission pay was just split. Oh well i guess 60 creds is ok then .
PAHLEEZE. This is an elite profession.
BTW i am a RL professional classical musician and i live quite comfortably. Starving artists are out there but you can also make a living wage as a musician.
So ok leave it the way it is then. Let's all go back to the "I wanna Mandoviol but i don't wanna ID for it arguments."
Never mind anyway.
