OK Rumor time. I had a combat player ask me if I had combat skills when I was using my mando to buff him. When I answered that I was rifleman he told me I should do the DWB because I could drop the mando in some piece of equipment and get a xantha back.

So I have to ask has anyone found a wireframe or graphic for this instrument in the files? Is there anyone who runs the DWB that can confirm or deny this? Just because there is only one sound file doesn't mean that the xantha couldn't just play the other mando sounds for the remaining songs. It sure has me curious when an obviously high end combat player is making this claim.

When have high end combat players A) known anything about music or 2) Cared about the music professionals.

Its a rumor, and should be treated as such.

Anyway, if it were true, then we would not only have a 400Kcr cost to get the song, but also have to die multiple times to play an instrument??? I know the devs ignore us, but that's malicious.

Well there is always a chance they could re-use some existing graphic for it.. But I have no reason to believe they would - AFAIK there are no instances in the game of equipment re-using graphics. Other items, yeah... But equippable items, no.

That said, unless it's named something like instrument16, I didn't see anything.

If true, it's another blow against thenon-combat playstyle. Musicians shouldn't have to do combat. We aren't a bard class and our profession should be self-sufficient.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since June 2004, running one of the game's first completely nonviolent characters. Testing the limits of non-combat MMORPG play and trying to have fun into the bargain (although the developers make it difficult).

Combat is no longer compulsory.

Beery I know we should be self sufficient but I also know that for the most part we aren't. We aren't thanks to the inflation we see rampant on the serversbecause SOE's borked buffs and armor making it possible for combatants to makemad cash. When it costs 450k for armor and other ridiculous prices for everything I simply couldn't live on enterainer tips.

I don't think this rumor is true but I don't have any desire to go to the bunker to try and find out. That level of combat simply doesn't interest me.

I would not be surprised if this is where SOE would place such a reward. They are obviously turning this into a pure combat game to cater to the mass audience of teens and tweens males. The funny part is that other games do that part so much better that they can't hold that audience plus when new games break those players leave anyway.

I sure wish SOE management would quit looking at simple statistics and look at the community issues. They would fair much better by building a stable base of all classes of players instead of just chasing the subscription increase at all other costs approach.

Not entirely true. The E11 carbine and E11 Rifle, looks identical... The DH17 carbine (Not the DH17 Short carbine, the other one certified at novice marks man), DH17 pistol, and the CDEF Carbine are also identical. The DLT20 Rifle DLT20a Rifle, and CDEF Rifle, also uses the same graphics. Then again, most of them are supposed to be variations of the same weapon.
Then there is krayt tissue that looks like hides, and most armour sections I have seen look alike.

That being said, I doubt that would let two different instruments use the same wireframe and graphics... well perhaps during some sort of alpha trial while work on the real graphics was still in progress.

I agree completely. The problem is, the leet players (overwhelmingly teens and tween males)are moving away from this game right now, driven as they are by the 'flavour of the month' game, which is no longer SWG. SOE is catering to a very fickle crowd and thus playing a dangerous game- ultimately a losers game. SOEhas ignored its truebase of support (the roleplayers)for so long that these players arealso leaving, tired of taking second place to the desires of the leets.

Point taken, but you're right about them being variants. Then again, a xanta is a variant on a stringed instrument. However, it is more of a hybrid wind/string instrument so I seriously hope they don't re-use a horn or the mandoviol because it wouldn't be correct in either case.

On the krayt tissue and other things, there's lots of those in game. Rug threads look like some BE tissue. Sculpture bases look like mineral crates. Theres a few things that look like precision laser knives. Those aren't equipped items though.

Given that muscial mind enhancement tapes are oneof the most expensive auctioned tapes in game that not many musicians have seen so much credits to afford let alone really be able to loot....is it really so difficult to imagine a new instrument being as hard to get that only uber stacked combat templates can get? lol I didn't think so

Indeed, Indeed!

We share the same ideas on this.

Let's hope someone over there does as well.

I agree too Yes SOE is catering to a very fickle crowd currently, I think its primarily because they want to keep a bunch of servers up instead of building a rock solid core on a more limited scale. Teens are always getting refreshed by a new generation and they all game today. We oldsters tend to be a minority because as a whole our interests are more diverse and a smaller percentage actually chose gaming as one of those interests.

Here is hoping they realize we have more loyalty and discretionary income and can provide a stronger long term income flow than an ever changing sea of leets.

You know what? That's exactly what they completely FAIL to realize so far... see their abandoning the ground game over half a yearin favor of first Jedi and then JtL.

I'm not hopeful that this will change anytime soon. People don't change their basic outlook on life that easily, corporations even less so...
