Thread: A plea to cantina musicians (from a new master musician)

Well, I just finished the Master Musician "grind" two days ago. I think I spent a total of 3 hours of that time AFK.I generally ended up being the defacto group leader of Coronet's Cantina Band on Radiant from midnight EDT until the server reset at 7am EDT.

What's funny is the main reason I started said grind was to get entertainer healing because no one in my group had any mind healing ability...

I've made it a point to stop by the Cantina from time to time, but I also spend time outside of it in an attempt to learn other skills.

Oh, and the Nalargon really doesn't sound that greatwhen there aren't any other instruments playing with it.

Well im a Master Musician and have been since the 5th week after release. Did i leave the cantina? Yes and no.

More accurately i took up the Chef skill and have 6 harvesters and a budding Cafe/Cantina to run now. That takes up most of my limited play time, but i still drop into the cantinas once in a while for a jam session with the up and comers.

Why dont i spend more time in the cantinas?

Well, to be honest its the small things. One i dont need the xp anymore and so that goal was removed. Second with the plethora of AFK dancers and musicians in the cantinas now (i never saw them when i grew up as a musician) its hard to get that cool old Band dynamic that was there. It happens still occationaly on the smaller planets and i enjoy it when i get it

Of course there are other small annoyances like that fact that I end up training 30 people every time i step into a cantina anymore. Now when i got trained by a musician when i started, I tipped at least half of what it would have cost me at the trainer every time i was trained. Ive been training people by the boatloads for months and i think ive been tipped for it like 3 times. Now im not talking about entertainer skills (although i tipped for those as well) Im talking about stuff like Music Know 4 and Tech 4 and Master. Because of this ive tried to go play for the 20 minutes or hour i have left to play, but end up training 30 people in multiple skills for 20 minutes, i get jack out of it and there goes my play time.

My only advice (until something changes with the whole musician thing) is not to rush the rise to Master. Dont AFK, dont grind for hours. ENJOY it, because once you reach master there is only the socialization, which is fine, and i enjoy but Playing SW1 for 6 hours when you get nothing from it gets pretty old, pretty fast.

I'll never give up my Musician Skills, as that is what I wanted to be from day one. Im just branching out and in order to do that, i cant be in the cantina.

My 2c.

Well.. Im a ME/MM and here are my thoughts.

I dont play much in general any more due to horrid customer service, idiotic bugs, and lack of a PvP system that actually works. But whenever I get on, I almost always seem to hit up the local cantina for 20-30 minutes. I enjoy it, as it is perhaps the only place that you will actually have any social interaction in the game.

I will admit however, that I am INCREADIBLY sick of SW2/SW1, and sometimes even Rock. I like folk so I thats ok. If we have a Mando and Bandfill/Ommni going, SW1 is cool too. SW3 is.... tollerable. Basically, I cant get myself to stay very long because I start wanting to turn my speakers off =/

Basically, whenever Im playing folk,or ballad and up, Ill probably be there for a while. But I just cant force myself to listen to that slither line in SW1 for more than 20-30 minutes, and most people just arent high enough to play anything higher =/

Slytherhorn player 01 .... waaaa waa wa waaa wa waa ... waaaa waa waa waa ... (or your best approximation to not flourishing , and running an afk macro)

nuff said ...

I see non afk entertainers , i play ... Even if its SW1 or Rock ... when they hit the afk mark , and just macro , I packup and leave ...

I didn't grind 100% of MM at the keys just so an AFK'er (which there are a ton of) can leach off me being in group.

Me and a few of the other higher leveled Musicians (I'm almost a MM) just made our own group in the cantina, instead of joining the big group that was playing SW1. You still get the social interaction while playing the song you want and with no AFKers.

I have a feeling that once I'm MM some of the fun will be gone. It's not the most enjoyable aspect of being in the profession, but I do like watching my XP bar grow. That's why I've been taking it so slowly (started one week after launch as an Ent, still have 3 boxes to go until MM ). I don't want to unlearn the profession, but I think I'm going to keep unlearning Wound Healing IV or something, just so I have a XP bar to watch

I dunno about a ban list, but if for some reason you end up on my ignore list, it's not my fault I don't hear you ask to join the group. Also, anyone else notice people calling our groups the entertainer groups? When I start a group it's for me to play with my friends. Suddenly, cause we are grouped and playing music we are known as the entertainer group and are expected to invite everyone in. Mind you, I do invite everyone in, but remember, no one owes you a group. Be grateful when you do get invited, and respect the people and the group and the group leader. No one wants a group newbie that starts trying to boss the group around, or starts firing off a million band flo's. Good way to get on an ignore list.

This is a thread that was taken right out of my own mind. I was one of the first masters on Radiant. Those masters who helped me I do not see anymore. I vist the cantina where I grinded the last bit of XP out and it was empty. Theed and Corellia still represent and I am glad to see that. I try to get in the cantina's as much as I can. Bust out the Nara and train all I can free of charge. Drop down a song or two and bid adieu.

Since Entertainer and Musician were my first 2 professions, to use up to skill points I chose to do things that were very different to allow myself to have a diverse character to avoid boredom. It worked, however I became 1 part merchant/miner and 1 part rifleman. Still have 20 SP left that I will be putting in the rifleman skill tree, btu I only hunt with my buddies and most of them have stopped playing so much. So I dove hardcore into Mining and it has been quite profitable. My orginal motivation was to find the best possible materials for the construction of instruments and contiune to provide as many musicains as possible with the instruments. Why did I hunt for the best materials when it does not have the slightest difference if I make you a Traz that is 1% or 90%?

The future. As well people buy the high end stuff I had a brutal batch of soft wood and alum and I made some instruments that came out no joke 1%. I felt like crap even though they will never be able to tell. I have sold 90%+ instruments as well, testign out the experiment process. I anticipate one day these stats will matter. Be it sound, be it tune, be it decay. Why else would the percentages exist? Planning for the future

I remember the days when I had to save for 2 weeks to make a trip to Mos Eisley to get my instruments and jam with the only masters on the server...

The only problemsare the beasts of capitalism, and the "relationship building" needed in being a well known merchant. This takes up A LOT of time, which takes me away from the cantina. As much as I appeal to a large audience I want to always be a musican and muscians merchant first.

Just wish there was more I could offer. 10 instruments is cool, but I wish I could sell songs for composers. Wish I could be in a band.

I am working on featuring some clothes with wound healing buffs. I have a set and it helps!

Well Moya I would add in my .02 cents but for the most part you summed up why I am not around or at least don't go to certain cantinas. Your right that I don't like to play in Tyrena much anymore due to alot of the issues you are saying and doing my math I was one of the first 10-20 MM's and I think 1 one for first 10 or so ME's on Intrepid. I do know that many of the numbers that I trained and trained from all those weeks ago have dropped different aspects. Now you may say that my group is the group you group up with and remember fondly but out of what I consider my generation for lack of a better word only about 4-5 of us still exist that I know of. Once again this is off the Tyrena Generational gaps and doesn't take into effect other offworld cantina's that I am unsure of. I consider the first generation entertainers the ones like xie and myself the people that started the first weekend.

Alot of people take advantage of the hard work we did and expect a free ride from it. I have my friends that I still train in such. But if "bob" for lack of a better name of an unknown sent me a tell across the galaxy for me to train them there is not a chance. In your instance (one of my friends) I sent about 20 tells around trying to find someone to train you and to figure out who was in the area. It is quite difficult you would be surprised how the masters I know so well have spread out or quit the biz.

Alot of us are working on second careers, my normal hunting party is 3 MM/ME's (all a master in both) and one ex MM/ME. So we are all still close together. Xie and I are not artisans so we rely on missions to further us both fincancially and in our secondary careers (another reason we aren't around) Many of us are working on secondary careers as the people mentioned above.

Another side of the coin the first month of the game I spent in 3 cantinas and the only time outside I spent going to the shuttle to going to another cantina. Nothing else. The second month I spent about 60-75% percent of my time in the cantina. Now I am spending 20% or less while I work on my secondary profession. I might drop ME and MM in the next month. But before I do I will make sure I have enough xp saved up that it allows me to immediately retrain in it when the mood strikes me again. In my second coming as an entertainer I will not be stuck on SW1 or any of the rest I want to say hey let's be a muscian again go buy novice ent then retrain novice musician then retrain all in one shot.

I will be performing at the in game groovefest festival on Intrepid this weekend which should give me all the musician points. Just need to get enough for the dancing and the *cringe* Image design.

Most of my ideas (exception of saving the xp so I could retrain later (stupid en-chi)) are followed by most the people I played with in the original generation. I await for hijo to tell me I'm stupid and go away now.

I have noticed some of the MM's dropping Musician Skills and Entertainer skills because of boredom. However, I am not going to drop it. There is still a chance that they'll add more things to Musician and Entertainer and I'd like to see the changes. Not too sure what rank I am when it came to becoming Master Musician on the Wanderhomeserver, but I grinded at Coronet for the remaining Ent. Healing and it was killing me...no talkingat all and it was getting incredibly boring in there

I have my own MM/ME/soon to be Master Medic on Coronet on Tempest and here's my views on the points:

1. I absolutely agree, afkers are the devil, when I find that I'm the only musician NOT afk I change the song to virtuoso and I get absolutely no complaints for doing so

2. I don't see these too often, but they do get annoying when I do see them, earn ur tips fools.

3. I have only seen this once, but I kept him in line by pointing out that I could just leave his group and make a group of my own, considering that I'm generally well liked that shut him up quick

4. I fall victim to this myself, I don't see much of a problem with it, if they have earned a spot on my ignore list then they are worthy of any punishment possible.

What really annoys me are people that have text in afk macros, one really used to get on my nerves because the text was an ad for his droid shop, but even he straightened up eventually. If you want to make ur cantina a better place, here's what has always worked for me: Always be helpful to the people in the cantina, I'm always willing to help anyone. Also, practice what you preach, people tend to go along with the crowd, and a crowd always starts with one person. Thirdly, once you have gained respect from the fellow entertainers and even the audience, use that fact to put pressure on those that do what you dislike, it will work half the time when everything else fails. And finally, when you have done all those for a while, people will always volunteer to make you group leader, use that to ur advantage by kicking people that are stubborn.

Creeva, dude. I hope you did not interpret my post as being ungrateful. I certainly didn't expect you guys to hang around until I made master. I also know that you first-gen musicians had to pay for your training while those of us who are third generation got it for free. I didn't expect people to come at my beckon call to give me free training. Trust me, I will always be grateful for all the support that I got from "my" masters -- you, Xie, and Agaar. I have tried to showmy appreciation in the past and will continue to do so in the future. Anything you need from me, just ask. As long as I don't have to shave my fur off or anything ...

I also understand that the old masters are out seeking new challenges and are having to give up music to pursue them. For that, we can only blame the server gods for being so stingy with the skill points. Some day I will probably have to do the same, but I will certainly trash Master Artisan before Master Musician! Just promise me that before you guys regain those skill points we all get together somewhere andput onone hell of a show!

The purpose of my post was to lament what I see as the sad state of affairs with our profession in the cantinas. That was all.

Hope we are still cool, Creeeeeeevvvvva! You are one of the best musicians in Intrepid -- it will be shame when you finally drop. And when you decide to cash in all of that unused musician xp to regain master musician just send me a tell. I will fly across the galaxy to give you free training. That is a promise!

Ill warn ya now Creeva, about saving up the xp.

I needed some points for Chef and so i dropped two levels of survey in artisan to clear up some points. Now i dropped the skills and still had all of my xp saved up. Waaaaay over what was needed to get the two boxes back.

Well the second i sampled something a day or so later i got the message. "You have just lost 254,999 survey experience"

apparelty the second you use a skill that you dropped points in it take you back to the cap for that lvl no matter how much xp you have saved up.

Oh and I miss the old cantina days on Coronet with En-chi and you and Xie and Chon and Kiki and huggybearr hehe those were the days.
