Thread: On Test Server: Mind Buffs enhanced!

Does this mean what I think it means?
I can now target folks while playing the Nalg?
Not necessarily. I think this note means that after droppingthe Ommni or Nalargon, the first option on the radial menu will always be "Play Instrument", instead of "Use" like it is when you have something in your hand (or 90% of the time when you're empty handed and trying to start). If you select Play when you have a pistol equipped, you'll get an error.
Who knows whether or not this effects the targeting bug.
I often watch one of the dancers as I'm playing so that I can get some kind of a buff. So yes...it can be done

doctor routinely buffs his blue bar in-between fights now.
To be honest, I've never tried listening and watching to a Master Musician and Dancer at the same time, so I don't know if it can be done -- but my guess is that it can.

This gives a whole new meaning to: /denyservice! I wish there was a comand that deny service from the whole group so that annoying and rudeplayers could receive no buffs.
Actually, the new buffs make /denyservice less useful. According to the Dancer correspondent (Ravenmist), the new buffs are targetable. So if someone's bothering you, you simply refuse to buff them. It's your choice, within your power who you buff with this enhancement. Nobody gets a free ride anymore unless you're feeling charitable.
And the old 2:1 ratio of buff duration-to-/watched (or /listened) time is being drastically revised. They won't have to watch us for an hour to get 2 hours' buffs ![]()
She also indicated that the actual buff itself is vastly enhanced over our old max of +50%. So, where Master Musicians could at one time buff Focus and Willpower +50%, while Master Dancers could buff Mind Pool +50%, we're looking at something closer to 100% or double. NewJedi or Ravenmist will be reporting on the results of their tests soon. If true, this will be a major boon to PvPers -- and musicians and dancers need to work hard at promoting our new ability after the patch goes Live.
I stand corrected. Ravenmist tested the buffs last night, and a targetting feature has not been put in yet. If it isn't implemented in this patch, she's hoping it will be in a patch soon.
See her post on the Dancer board for details.
as it stands right now, if it is eventually going to be made a targeted buff... it will be nearly useless for master musicians that play omnibox or nalargon.... have to have them targeted to play...

this kind of helps the AFK problem as well. No one is going to be watching them if they can't get a "targeted buff". Nice...2 mynocks with one stone
That was kind of our thinking on the issue - it gives entertainers more significance in the game, it provides a possible source of income, and it discourages AFK macroing.
Without the targeting ability, however, it's going to be freebies for everyone, including those who /watch or /listen to LAMERs. I suspect it's going to cause a culture shift once they DO add targeting, as many of those players are going to expect their buffs to continue to be free forever.
Good point about the targeted instruments. Perhaps you guys should suggest that when they add the target command there be an optional /buffmind <playername> parameter so you can buff someone without actually clicking on them?
The 2 to 1 ratio over time will destory these buffs combat professions are not going to want to sit in cartina for 1 hour in order to gain effects of buffs.
Noone going pay you to be bored and waste time. Best idea would be to make these buffs simlar to doctor buffs you pay cash and then entertainer can apply the buffs instantly make the entertainers skills effect duration. The majority people who going want this buff will be combat related and will die often thus wasteing time to get the buff to do some missions is counter productive and probly quicker to die a few times doing the missions rather then get the buffs.
My initial tests on Test Center were encouraging -- and surprising. I buffed a Master Doctor for 13 minutes, and his Focus and Willpower doubled -- from 650 to 1300, and 600 to 1200. But what was most impressive is that the buff lasted 80 minutes -- an hour and twenty minutes! 13:80 is about a 1:6 ratio, a big improvement. I'd still like to see it be about 1:12, though --ten minutes playing, two hoursduration.
I buffed one other guy for around 5 minutes (I think), and his stats also doubled, but the buff lasted only 30 minutes. The only trouble is, I didn't time the duration for which I played for him; I hope it was just five minutes.
The buffs are not targetable, but I'm hopeful the devs will address this in some way.
More testing today.
Yes a 10 to 1 ratio sounds acceptable from a combat profession opinion. In that way i can spend 5 or 10mins prepareing before engageing in pvp or pve.
Still i prefer idea of buffs being simply buffs the entertainer preforms the flourish and buff is applied and duraction is dependant on dancers skill and materials used.
And yes i beleave a few minor resources should be included to make this buff compareable to food and spices. Other wise you gain all benefits with no costs.
For example costs could be 5 gems (glitter) and 5 reactive gas pirotechics
Cause thats just my ideas i think best to leave up to people playing class to decide on whats best.
