If a player cantina can ban at will then I refuse to believe that the developers can't institute an autoban in the NPC cantinas. That they might not want to is a differentmatter . . . .

It's far more likely that, rather than punishing AFKers, they'd add incentive to ATKers. Perhaps they could add an XP bonus for actively interacting with the audience, or something like that. I hate to say it, but more incentive to ATK won't help much. As long as there is some kindbenefit to being AFK people will do it, it's human nature I guess. The only way to completely remove the AFK problem is to make AFK-entertaining useless, or impossible.

That would be a much friendly way of handling the problem, no doubt, but it doesn't address the issue of buffbots. These buffbots are masters and have no concern for XP. There is nothing to be done about private buffbots in player houses or buildings, but there are plenty of them planted in NPC cantinas at all hours of the day. And these buffbots are in and of themselves game-breaking mechanics - by destroying the game for the players who find enjoyment performing and roleplaying. If SOE isn't careful, they are going to find their great experiment to be a total and complete failure - when it doesn't have to be.

BTW, I think the ban should be along the lines of a TEF - a temporaryflag with a particular time limit on it, not one that forever bans a player from a cantina, theater or hotel.

ya know, buffbots could be wiped from the face of the earth by simply not allowing the client to process /join if its in a macro.

I think a much better solution to this problem is to making the buffing process interactive for the musician/dancer. Perhaps even require chatting with the customer

The trend nowadays is to just have a master dancer/musician grouped for the passive buffing, haven't seen that many buffbots in the mining outpost anymore.

I'll admit... I've done afk grinding to get things done for holos (holo #2 was dancer). But I think it is deplorable to have professional afk'ers... just afk to get the exp and get out is how I feel about it, and I refuse to use the services of an afk buffbot. I actually PREFER having someone to chat with while my 800 bf goes away and I get buffs, and I miss the days when I knew someone personally who was ALWAYS available for some ATK buffing and healing...

im grinding musician with my wook, i DO afk playing because,i mean how fun is it to sit at your computer and just watch your toon move back and forth and listen to a song loop itself in 10 sec? i am mostly ATK but during times like when i should be sleeping i do AFK. people have jobs to do also no just sit at a computer and watch the people that have no interest and appreciation in musicians and dancers. now that i am doing the grind i have a greater appreciation of them.

That's the thing though. It USED to be very fun, atleast if you enjoy social interaction. I mastered in 3-4 months of ATK play ina smallish town (Tyrena), and only at the end did it become boring. (And yes, that's when the holotainment had started).

There was always a few entertainers there, all at the keyboard, all chatting. Wounded and fatiguedpeople came in, chatted for a bit while they healed etc. That's all gone now though.

Hang on..am i missing something here? How do the AFK hologrinders affect the 'atmosphere' and fun of being an entertainer? If you still have the entertainers who do it for the love of entertaining (though i fail to see how you can enjoy standing in a cantinaplaying the same songs over and over again) chatting and socializing in the cantina then the atmosphere will be just the same, albeit with a few extra people hanging around. If you want to chat and socialize with people then try just talking to anyone you pass/meet..Im sure you will get the same satisfaction, or you could even try using a chatroom. Everyone jumps on the 'we hate hologrinders' bandwagon and blame them for everythingwhen you should really be looking at your chosen profession and realise that your choice was bound to become boring in the end!

You ARE missing something if you've read through these comments and STILL haven't a clue as to why we are against AFKing grinders and buffbots! I dropped by the Theed cantina yesterday hoping to gain some med healing xp and maybe pick up a buff request or two. The SPAM from the AFKers and a planted buffbot was so overwhelming that I couldn't take it for more than a few minutes! How are we LIVE entertainers and patrons supposed to chat and socialize when we can't even "see" each other speak? (And, yes, I've heard there will be an addon to Publish 9 regarding being able to turn off this spam but I have a wait and see attitude about it . . .). You don't like to socialize? Fine - but don't try to relegate those of us who do to a chat room! Just because you have no appreciation for our profession doesn't mean we should forfeit any enjoyment we have for your convenience. We don't WANT to leave the profession - we want it FIXED!

I don't know how to respond to this other than you are on the far end of the spectrum from us and havn'ta clue on what our playing style is. I also would not dream of going into a combat proff board and saying how its silly to mindlessly bash small creatures day in and day out so you can then move up andmindlessly bash larger creatures day in and day out so you can move up to evenlarger creatures and mindlessly bash them day in and day out so can ...repeat loop here.

I dont do that there so please don't do it here.

Itsgreat that your guildis making use of entbuffs . . . but, you know what? Its a shame you don't have a dedicated entertainer in your PA who is willing to play live.I have to wonder if you would be as receptive to that? I am a member of a guild which boasts at least 3 master dancers, one master musician, one soon-to-be master dancer and one master entertainer (who is working on MM) - and NO buffbots. Generally, at least one of us is available LIVE anywhere between 11am to 2am ET on any given day. If we are lucky, we might have ONE guildmate request a buff while we are on.
