Thread: AFK Entertainers are good, really

I've been a master musician since 3 weeks after game launch.

Cantinas for the last few months.... no damned tips, except for buffs.... and most people want dancer buffs. People used to tip generously before the afk-bot (i.e. I don't want to earn my xp honorably) craze. Why should people wanting mind/BF healing tip anymore? There are so many afk-bots that they can use for free.

I only make credits playing weddings.... not worth my damned time.

Entertaining used to be fun and interactive... these days it's rare to run in to a cantina and find an entertainer group leader that's at their damned keyboard, let alone more than half of the group non-afk.

I'm sorry, I've had enough.

Goodbye Master Musician. One of the 2 most worthless professions in the game.

Again I point out that this really only is the case in the "big city" cantinas. Leave those and youll find plenty of opportunity to socialize. Also remember that the CUSTOMERS (so to speak) of entertainers most likely do not belong to the typical "socializer" and thus might have no interest in "socializing".

In either case, there are plenty of opportunities to socialize if you venture out in the world as opposed to sticking to the major cantinas. Also, believe it or not, I have done plenty of socializing even in places such as Coronet with 25-30 entertainers, despite not being a socializer and despite really having better things to do.

If _anyone_ has destroyed the entertainer profession, it's SOE, not the AFK entertainers. Most of us would rather not have STARTED doing entertainer at all but are FORCED to do so to archieve a higher goal in the game. Never mind that I'm actually enjoying it most of the time (when I'm not afk of course).

Also, learn to take advantage of the relatively rareness of dedicated entertainers - take on jobs (i.e sell your services) in more remote areas (player cities primarily), or join a hunting group - do you even know how hard to impossible it is to find entertainers willing to go into the field? Even with doctors it's hard to find ones that don't want to sit in the outpost or by a starport selling buffs (one reason I became a doctor, by choice, was lack of adventure hungry doctors).

Instead of sitting in a single place all day long, go out and adventure and experience the game as it should be experienced!

And before you say "yeah, but I can't heal BF in the field" - so what? Half the fun is the RP value of sitting in camp and chatting at the fire. The other half is healing mind wounds (and then BF at starport stops inbetween).

Another idea is to put together an entertainer group, which do professional (compared to your typical xp group in cantinas) shows for a predefined set of money. I keep hearing how entertainers are so poor and no one tims (mostly true), and yet I see NO POSTS offering the services of an entertainer group! What's up with that? Heck, even I, a holo-musician, would find that to be a very thing thing to do.

So stop whining and start playing the game!

as the leader of an all entertainer/ doc pa and one who does all that you have suggesteded and a few more things i have to say your wrong. the cantinas died a long time ago... long before teh holotainers were their macrotainers. all the stupid afkness had been growing at an exponential rate... take for instance my server... of the original 40 masters on the server 5 still play of those 30 left the game because the way the cantinas had become and that it had made the class less fun. I am currently runing a cantina revival program on ahazi to try to get it back to where it was... while you say most are not interactive 'socalizers' that are combat types, then why would people make 3-4 plante/ starport jumps just to come see me play? to talk to my band and chat in a very specific cantina.. they did it because humans in general are socalizers. mmorpg's are socalizing games... otherwise you could just play a single player game. as for being "forced" that is a miss representation because SOE is not requireing that you become a jedi. They have always stated that most would not be a jedi and you should play the game without that in mind for you. You said you were enjoying the time you played entertainer, so you can see why we do. But if your sitting in an empty cantina or one full of afk ppl (same thing) then what fun is that?

so stop thinking us musicians are jsut whining cause here is the facts:

Launch.... Full cantina's tons of fun tons of xp ton's of money

now.... empty cantina's, never fun rarely tips unless they know u already and idk xp i have been caped for 5 months on xp

entertainers life launch: socalize give info tips to players heal and laugh a lot

entertainers life now: run around in the field, play as little as possible because their is no longer good fun ppl to play with... do gigs hunt (not much socalizing).... the fact of the matter is that this was supposed to have both in this game

soe has simply done nothing to fix the looping macro problem. Hell they didnt even answer our top 5 for four months. anyway this ends my rant but you should now no that your post was wrong in every way and the title of this thread continues to be 100% wrong.

Nhari, I couldn't have worded your post any better than that.. right on!

I still play my master entertainer/master musician. Not for exp, not for holos, but for fun! Sadly the fun is quickly being zapped out of it. I logged in, and went to the local cantina... it was PACKED. No doubt 80% of the performers in there were holo grinders. So what happened? I plop my Nalargon down, ask if I can get into an Entertainer group.. and lo and behold they're all FULL! Eventually a spot opens up and I'm invited. Now, I'm a pretty active entertainer.. yes I macro a few key songs or sections of songs together so I can type without looping the same default chord over and over, but I was getting no response from anyone in the cantina at all... I felt sooo alone. 60% were (afk) and the other 40%either didn't care to actually entertain or were asking other people how to set up a looping macro.

Maybe I'll retire my musician till this holo thing blows over, or move to a desolate place where entertainers are badly needed.
