Thread: Targetable Musician Buff now on Test Center!
Epidap: You don't have to keep the person targeted to use /setperform. You click on them once to make them your look-at target, then you type /setperform and get a message that you are directing you attention to that particular audience member. (Actually, the performer gets a bugged version of this message.) Once you've typed /setperform and gotten the confirming message, you can untarget your audience member and start to perform. I tested it with the nalargon to test this very aspect of the buff, and I was able to confer the buff just fine.
Itren: As far as I can tell, we cannot buff ourselves with this buff. The Dancer Correspondent has tested this more than me, and she's raised the issue with the devs. I myself haven't tried targeting myself with /setperform, but I gather from the Dancer Correspondent that it doesn't work. It would indeed be nice to buff ourselves; we do heal our own BF and mind wounds, after all.
Darniaq: The designers may indeed add a command-line version of the target for /setperform, so that you will be able to type /setperform NewJedi.Currently, however, you must actually target the player with your mouse to make them your look-at target, and then type /setperform. The devs didn't have time to give us both versions of the command in time for this patch, but I'm hopeful will get a command-line version in the future. I don't see it is a big deal, given that the current system works even with the nala and ommni.
Elzaa: Yes, there is a Dancer version of the buff, and yes, it heals the Mind pool. The Dancer Correspondent, Ravenmist, has been testing it on Test Center. Oddly, she has not achieved quite so long a buff duration as I have; I think her best has been a 90 minute buff or so. I had one audience member tell me that my Musicianbuff lasted for three hours on him.
Buffs in the field: I didn't get a chance to test whether this works on a city street or open field, outsidea camp, theater, cantina, or hotel. My assumption is that the buff works only in our usual healing places. I do know that the pre-patch buff did work in camps. If I get a minute today, I do want to grab a guinea pig on Test and see if I can buff them outside the cantina. My guess is: no.
Totally agreed. We should be able to buff ourselves. Does anyone know (test center perhaps) if this was an oversight in the coding, or do the devs disagree?

I must say I think it's rather unfair that we're unable to buff ourselves. Our class limits us to just two stats (or in the case of a Dancer, just one) that we are able to buff. If it were the stat that we need to play our instruments, I would understand the hesitation. However, seeing as how we can heal ourselves, and how the other "buffing" class is able to buff itself completely, I see no reason why we should not benefit from the same sort of buff. As a combat class that lives and dies by her mind pool, I will admit to having a strong interest in self-buffing.
But if they want groups to take advanced Entertainers out into the field (and it's been evidences that they had this concept in mind for us) they're going to have to make us more practical in the field. What I have seen in this thread is a good start. But it will do us no good if we are too busy running back from the cloning station.
It's not a bug that we can't buff ourselves; that is as intended -- for now. I and other Correspondents have asked the devs about the possibility of buffing ourselves. I'll report back if I learn more.
