It's not a recent change, my entertainer is about to celebrate her birthday and it's been around that long at least.

now for groups. Have it so the leader can run a macro/script or such. But have it where they can control the instruments in teh band. say /fizzflourish1 makes anyone using a fizz flourish.

This is already possible

/bandflourish 1 slitherhorn

Will make everyone playing a Slitherhorn play flourish 1.

I would say if you go AFK have the cover charge automatically set to a stupidly high value like 1 million, or everyone will just watch or listen to the nearest AFKer since they know they will not get charged.

If I was an Ent looking for XP and I walked into a Cantina I would look at everyones covercharge when I walked in and set mine to be lower, this way I would get all the people using me and hence the XP. My guess is while the Cover charge sounds good to some people now if you actually want to get used you will have to set it to 0 (or to the minimum value that any ent on your server uses)

This has possibilties if and only if two things are done with this:

Caps on the covercharge based on skill level.

QFE.

Exactly. If one is AFK, one should not have the ability to charge cover. You can't fight when you are AFK, so why not change this, too?

If you are AFK then what makes you different from the buffbots of old? free buffs, always around and NEVER any reason to interact with an entertainer. The sooner recursive macros are removed the better. I'm in favor of this system totally, I spent time becoming a Musician and I've been left in the shadow of the buffbot for a long time...the only way the cover charge will work is if they remove the ability to macro however. My opinion but there it is.

You do realize it is theoretically possible that there is a command you didn't hear about or learn?

even if i think that the idea of covercharge is not bad i fear will be another open door for buffbots

is even easier than before, no "complex" macros to manage the group, no problem with angry entertainers that try to grup the buffbot and so on... just run a standard play macro with some advice and automatically you will get paid.

maybe for inspirational buff will not be a big issue as peobably low level entertainers will not charge for their performance, but if higher level buff will be introduced we will have a situaion possibly even worse than before.

Clarify: macros are essential, recursive macros are not. If they take out macros altogether, I'd give up Entertainer just as fast as if they definitively said AFK will never go away.

Added observation regarding covercharge:

If patron accepts the covercharge, he will get healed of battle fatigue and receive an inspiration buff

If patron rejects the covercharge, he stops listening, and will not receive an inspiration buff

If patron neither accepts or rejects, he will get his battle fatigue healed, but no inspiration buff.

I am sayin thatit ISworking this way. Whether it should work that way or not, I have no opinion on. I do believe we should get feedback via system messages when 1. someone starts listening/watching entertainers, and 2. a separate message when someone accepts or rejects the covercharge.

Just some updates:

1. /covercharge now brings up a window where you can enter the amount of credits. No string bugs.

2. /covercharge amount circumvents the window

3. Upon setting covercharge, you are acknowledged with a system message about the amount of cover you have set.

4. Doing /covercharge when you have a covercharge set will remove the covercharge, and the removal is acknowledged via a system message.

5. The maximum amount of covercharge is 2^31 -1 which amounts to 2147483647 credits, increasing this amount with 1 credit will act as in 4, i.e. a removal of the covercharge (thanks to Senom Shiro for pointing this out). In practical terms, there is no upper limit on covercharge.

6. Listening or watching an entertainer with covercharge, will now bring up a popupbox with the correct string.

We also have a part in the new Mos Eisly Mystery quest series, with the entertainer quest called: Life of an Entertainer.
