Thread: recursive macros.. a good thing?
For your other comments, I just wanted to let you know that you are indeed not the first to bring up those points, and they are well noted among the entertainer communities as well as by the devs.
Regarding putting afk spammers on ignore: The problem is not *as* much that the spam annoys us as entertainers (though it is quite annoying to have to add at leat one new spammer to your list every play session), as much as it is that the spam is annoying to non-entertainers who are coming to visit the cantina. They don't spend hours there, usually only a few minutes, but instead of being able to come to a place and have a good time being entertained, their spatial chat is instead filled immediately with all the spam, and rather than try and parse it all to find any true thought for entertainment, they'd rather just ignore spatial altogether for the few minutes they are there. This means that the cantina, the place where our professions are meant to make an enjoyable place, is rather a place to be ignored and go pee or get a drink.
As for who cares what they think: Many entertainers are social players by nature; the very purpose of the professions is to cater to that playstyle. While yes, in the grand scheme of things, people won't be critically affected by what others think of them in SWG, respect and likability are key elements to being social. Basic respect and decency, even to a player who is not primarily social, are usually crucial to having an enjoyable play session.
And remember again that we did not ask that recursive macros be taken away, but rather that the AFK problem be solved. The recursive macro removal is what the devs have offered to solve the problem, and in a profession that is has been torn apart by the issue (do read the buffbot/afk thread if you don't believe that statement), any offer for a solution is going to be clung to. Most entertainers are willing to make almost *any* sacrifice to solve the problem, although it is quite true that there are many who do not wish it to be done by means of removing recursive macros.

Personally, if it were not for the buff bots I would have 999 bf all the time b/c it is hard to find an entertainer that can heal decently all the time plus if you grind alot you wind up wishing there was one at the cantina so you could get your entertainer buff on. Lets face it people, even after the CU there are plenty of issues more pressing than this one.
Let’s face it, this issue has been pressing a lot longer then those created by CU, yet it’s being kept on back-burner for some elusive reason while devs brag to the world how they “virtually eliminated” the AFK phenomena. Uh-huh … yeah.. right…
As for you not being able to find a live entertainer, hmm have you ever wondered why?
Random_dude walks in to random cantina and oops there is no entertainer there, so he starts whining about never being able to find one and how they should be there for his whim 24/7, so he gets the “bright idea” and created a zombie. If cantina are infested by spamming zombies begging for tips every 5 seconds, no ATK entertainer will feel welcome in place like that, so they leave/quit and people whine about not being able to find live entertainers even more, so they create more zombies to drive away even more of those who just want to have fun “playing” entertainers.
See the pattern here?Message Edited by Petronela on 06-02-2005 09:07 AM

Yet another misguided soul with no knowledge of history. There were not empty cantinas, abandoned by entertainers, that some genius came to and said: "I shall create an AFK entertainer, to fill the horrible void, since no one plays this profession any more! I will help players and provide a valuable service too."
The cantinas were bright and happy places, not just the ones in major cities, but even places like Moenia, Keren, Mos Whichever-you-choose, or Anchorhead. Whenever the servers were up, more than likely someone was there. Then things happened, macros were written, new players were filtered into limited numbers of cities and scooped up by politicians or guilds on the make, the dynamics and economics of the game changed. People got hooked on buffs of all sorts, and getting them faster and more efficiently. Smaller towns became ghost towns, communities formed arounf NPC towns died without a new influx of wanderers. Everything was about "best" and "soonest" and words like holocron master were uttered in the dark places.
The buffbots came, they observed, they learned and mimicked, and they drove the live players out, by making the cantinas unlivable. You say we should blame ourselves for "not being there" for players, yet we were. In all places andat all times, yet we were abandoned and forsaken, and now we are scoffed at while we fight to take our cantinas back.

That's odd, my guild mates never have a problem finding an entertainer when they need one. Of course it might be because my guild mates are real friends, I make sure my guild is entertainer friendly, we have attracted about 4 ents, and the guild has connections with about 20 ents. Try getting to know a few live entertainers you might be surprised how easy it is then, in fact I even travel to my friends when they are in real need.
Even after the CU this issue is our number one game breaking issue and as completely mis-understood as ever by the "got to get it instantly, this game is only about FPS playstyles" group.
Incorrect. I've mastered musician, entertainer and dancer multiple times and never afk. And I think there are plenty of people who've seen me play since launch who will vouch that I never leave my avatar animating if I have to step away from the computer. Please be careful that your assertion is correct before you start calling people liars.
