So.....am I the only one who feels like SP need to be reduced?

I am against Skill points beign reduced as I feel it will be a sign that we will be put onto the back burner.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't faulting you for ranting and roaring, it's your job and you do it well. Your second post put it in terms that fit the topic much better, but admit it, your first one was pretty much just a general broadside at all things wrong with Entertainment. We've had our disagreements about methods before, I'm not big on "hate the devs" dogma, but I've never disputed your right and ability to forcefully point out the problems with our world, because you do do it very well, when it's on topic and focused. *hug*

Understood.

I'm still undecided on whether it would be better to reduce skill point requirements for mastering music or dance, or not.

On one hand the system as it is now reminds me of how Master Entertainer indicated whether someone focused more on tangible benefits like faster buffs, or more on putting up a show (this doesn't imply that one is better than the other, whatever better means anyway). But of course that was before the CU and its stupid combat levels, and it was only a handful of skillpoints spent, not entire skill branches rendered useless. The only reason to keep the skill point requirements as they currently are would be to not distract while they are adding all the cool stuff that will make it again worth the skill point investment.

On a second note: Generally, I don't think we should keep our professions exclusive, but as long as it's completely AFKable, I don't see any other measure to stem the flood of bots.

I'm of the opinion that they either need to pony up on the entertainer content or make our master level skills worthwhile. If that's not going to happen, quit pretending that we are a valued profession and reduce the skill points so, like Nosmina said, I have a way to protect myself when I'm out on the adventure planets.

Also, with the changes to buffs and the fact that even a novice can provide one, what does it matter if people create entertainer alts? I don't get tipped because my buffs are uber or that I provide them faster, I get tipped because I interact with the patrons and provide a show. If people make the alts for harassment, remember, /addignore is a wonderful thing.

I say yank the healing lines completely and give us some sort of 'barfight' branch. I doubt something like that would become an 'optional' prerequisite for a ranged/brawler profession (say, instead of the ranged support line for marksman), but it'd give us some protection 'on the road' if not a head-start into something more meaningful, combat-wise.

*thinks about that for a minute*

Yeah, forget it. Innovative code-changes based on entertainers griping about how useless we are just isn't gonna happen. SOE would have to create an "either/or" prerequisite path for elite combat professions for that to work. The crafters would want to kill us too, for that matter (they generally don't have a broken branch they'd be willing to exchange for something useful, as a whole).

As for lowering the skillpoint cost? I think we'd all love to be able to do just a little more in the world, but I think I side with the "that's the surest sign of being back-burner'ized" camp. There aren't enough devs fixing things that don't seem fair. What's fair? And who are you ASKING? Those of you at home on large servers may feel like you've got a large entertainer community to back you up. I invite you to Wanderhome to take a look around at the shape of things on a low-population server. The way SOE operates makes perfect sense over here - there just aren't enough of us in a large enough percentage of the player base for a thousand of Warr's wookieeroars to make a dent. And don't suggest I move somewhere with a larger community - we've been saying "its the people we stay for" since these entertainer forums came into existence.

WiReD magazine articles give us more dev communication than the SOE forums. 8-person groups were shoved through with nary a thought towards what it would do to the 'socializer' quarter of the population, only because it led to that buzzword of MMO's, "balance" - for the combat classes.

Yea, verily, we are broken. Time will tell if the cure's worse than the disease.

They should replace wound healing with marching!

Parades! Now we're talking!

Dancers could get color guard/spinning flags all that good stuff.
