Just thought I would put my 0.02 creds in here. As a budding musician I have found AFK-taining to be somewhat fun in large groups. I dont need tips, I dont need money, (i like being a poor TK monk ^_^) I just want exp and to play tunes with people. However, with my work schedule I dont get to play all that much.

So to grind faster I afktain every now and then, I get good exp, give FREE service (ill even tip other entertainers who let me group with them) and enjoy myself.

I feel for those who make everything on tips, I would never dream of depriving anyone of their business.

In short.... cant we all just get along?

Oh there is a well thought out idea /scoff Now everytime you get a drink /reportAfkAbuse on you.

LordTigris, honestly, was that intentional or pure lack of brain matter ? Do you /report everybody who talks to you ? Why do you think did I call that hypothetical feature /reportAfkAbuse and not /reportAfk ? Reporting me while I get a drink or lunch or restroom trip or phone call will do you no good. That's not abuse of afk-macros. A CSR will be dispatched, will arrive after 30 minutes because he has a bunch of those reports and find me at my keyboard. If not, he will wait for 10 minutes and try again. If not, he will mail me and see when I answer. Maybe teleport me into a grey room with four walls and no way to gain xp to see when I return. Guess what, it works in other MMORPGs. I don't see what should be so special about this one that it's impossible here.

( Okay, the CSR will probably not teleport you on the first incident, because the teleport thingy will eat his teleport ticket, people will make a thread on the general discussions board to nerf CSRs and chances are you need to have a pet to be able to use this feature of Pet Wars Galaxies, but hey, apart from that, what's the problem ? At least it works in other games, why not here ? )

How do you improve the entire game, and one of the more useless professions at the same time? Well this is a start: Help Support the http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=squad_leader&message.id=10609>Fortification Proposal

My solution to the AFK musician is to make them get a TEF when they go AFK. that should be quite entertaining for an entertainer profession. then make it to where you can loot them of all they have.

Very intentional. NEVER, EVER GIVE A GRIEFER AMMO!! For god's sake, the /reportafkabuse is the worst idea I have heard so far. Look how fast the CSR's nerfed the petition line and think how long this one is likely to last. 24 hours maybe. You can be just ignoring some smuck, and /reportafkabuse. Sure a CSR might, MIGHT, check on it, but more than likely they will look at their database and see 250 instances of nvoigt being reported and bam, banned. Sound like a good idea now??

I think that's a great idea and it's exactly what I do. On my other account, I have a master musician who /afk's all day on Lok. Everybody loves him because no one is ever playing in the cantina there. It saves thema 3k trip off-world just to heal their BF. If anyone _actually_ comes and plays in the cantina, all they have to do is invite me and my macro will /join them so they can get group xp.

For all you haters of the AFK people, will you at least try to be a musician or dancer for a day or two and see how hard it is to get xp? if you do, come back to this forum and tell us all how bad we are for Macroing our dance/music xp

I jus picked up Musician on the side,I leave it running occasionally in the morning in Bestine if I don't want to give all my attention to SWG, ie I'm doing IRL things bc I've walked into a deserted cantina enough in the morning when no one is on, so why not throw my character on while I'm taking care of some issues, have SWG run in the backgroud, I pop it up occasionally to check for some interesting conversation, but to stand there and stare at no one, no movement gives me a reason to afk, I mean when leveling Marksman I was out hunting seeing new things, other people occasionally tring to save my ass. but why the **edit** am I going to listen to that annoying ass star wars song for a few hours to level my class, I have no benifit from staring at my screen so why should I, I would like to see a hunter just stand there and stare at thier screen while tabbing newbie mobs to see how experience trickles for the musician, stand thier for an hour at the same noob mob and then ask for sympathy

LOL! Yeah, I became a Master Musician without all the buffs, spices, and foods that becaome available later on. I only AFKed for io breaks while in large groups. I don't want to hear about wah wah wah this is why I do it or whatever. You know what, I don't want to hear any complaints about AFK-ing either... I don't want to hear anything more about it unless Gig missions are implemented to a point where AFK-ing becomes an unfair way to make easy money. That, however is COMPLETELY avoidable.

A lot is made about the AFKers... I don't do it... I try not to group with those that do... and it is really quite easy to avoid those that do it... so I really don't care much about it. I think too much has been made of this. What exactly is the problem here... people have figured out that they don't tip AFKers and if people go seeking out AFKers then those are people that aren't going to tip any way, so I think this is just an issue that is very popular, but holds very little substance. To me they are non-interactive NPC's and they don't bother me. Yes, text in their macros is really annoying, but so is a lot of the text that comes from many player's while at their keyboards.
Hey, if I was a traveling marksman that wandered into an otherwise empty cantina and only an AFK entertainer is there... it's like being able to get rid of BF and mind wounds off of an NPC. I have no problems with that.
It becomes a concern when talking about paying missions (if they are ever altered to being something worth doing) and in that case... a simple acknowledgement that the player is there at the keyboard while doing such missions is all that is really required. Just make it something that cannot be macroed.

It's like the media has pushed this AFK crap into everybody's heads... but does anyone know why it's such an issue?
I don't care if JoeGorilla becomes a Master Musician before I do, by him AFK-ing. What difference does it make to me?
And thats a funny ass remark about crafters using harvestors! LOL! Excellent point for a pointless debate.
How about AFK campers... I'm sick of seeing novice scouts AFK in basic camps! LOL!
Hey, anyone notice that most employees at the DMV seem to be AFK? Most retail employees too! Most public school teahcers, County Judges, Politicians, and Meat-Market M.D.s all seem to be completely AFK during their work hours.
How about drivers on cell phones? AFK or not?
Oh maybe people looking to post about AFK should spend more time AFK
