Thread: Proposal to allow musicians to earn money through record sales

This is a totally stupid idea, but I'm trying to generate some sort of response from what seems to be an audience that has gone to sleep.

How about musicians and dancers are the ones who create the holocrons? Have to have very special conditions, which would be difficult to create. Maybe 10 master musicians, 10 master dancers, a special droid (no, I'm not a droid engineer, I just sympathize with them), certain very difficult resources (like liquid petro 4, or dolovite iron), and a lot of time (maybe 20 minutes).

You would need some healers, to keep everyone going, because everyone would have to do flourishes every 10 seconds during the entire time. Anyone going LD or AFK would break it for everyone (similar to being incapped in combat prevents you from helping the group). There would be a special tune and dance just for doing this.

Afterwards, the holocron would be owned by the owner of the droid making the recording. This would mean that there would have to be some financial arrangement to get everyone together, possibly made by someone who ultimately wants the holocron. I hear of them selling for millions of credits, so a split between all the entertainers and the medics would probably net a minimum of maybe 100,000 credits EACH.

With all the complaints about the profession being cheapened by those trying to get FS-slots opened, this could be a way to raise the worth of our profession.

Don't let the negative AFKophobes get you down. Play the game however you want.

Is the beta testing almost over for this game?

--specificly the one about using the CDs to heal mind DAMAGE, so they could be used on the battlefield like "stims" but not used to heal other stuff, that's what the cantinas are for.

I think this idea has come up too many times on both the Entertainer and Musician forums (that I know about...I don't Dance, so I don't know if it's been brought up on the Dancer forum) for it to continue to be ignored by the developers.

Fine, make it a helluva big investment in resources, so that to make it will cost about 2,000 credits' worth of resources. Attach it to Fatigue Healing skill. You don't get that 'til you're at least a Novice performer anyway. Make it single-shotbut useable by anyone (like pet vitality packs). Make it take time to do, like the buffs. Make it take time to be applied. Make it only useable in the same places where mind wounds/fatigue can be healed in the first place.

But dammit, make it. Because this subject comes up often enough that it qualifies as one of the top professional issues, just from the number of posts about it.

I get the feeling that the only thing the master musicians are really emotional about is other people AFK'ing. There seems to be a lot of complaining about that (becoming almost like religious burn-them-at-the-stake fanaticism at times), but when it comes to reasonable role-playing star-warsy suggestions, everyone just fades away. Maybe the people who are attracted to this profession are just apathetic lumps for the most part, willing to go into a cantina and trade a few lines with the customers, but have no desire to reach beyond their miserable profession and become the true masters of the art.

As to interacting with the audience, I saw Dave Brubeck in a live concert a few years ago. He never said a word during the entire concert. His band never said a word during the entire concert. The only vocalization was by the emcee, who cracked some very funny jokes. It was an excellent concert, and the lack of "patter" probably just enhanced the experience.

There has got to be a few people out there, who feel a burning need to get this profession jump-started. The only way to do that is to be activists, to get involved, write letters, make waves. Why do I feel like I'm standing in this huge performance hall, with my words just echoing off of the walls?

Thanks for your suggestion.Peoplehave made such proposals before, and the devs have never shown much interest, no doubt because they're worried about undermining the function of cantinas.

I thinkyour proposal ismore likely to be adopted if the recording conferred some benefit other than healing BF and mind wounds -- specifically, if it were to heal mind *damage*. The devs *have* shown a little interest in giving entertainers a mind heal, and a craftable holostim wouldIMHO be a great way to implement it.

I like the idea of crafting holos too. Make the holo be a lesser buff (shorter duration/lesser enhancement to the stats), and allow only Master musicians/dancers to make them. The holo-recordings should be single use. The items could have some flavor text along the lines of: This recording of a master musician has enough power to play for ten minutes. After listeningyour mind will be soothed, increasing your focus and willpower. Make them single use andno where near as good as an actual player buff, but there aren't always players around to buff. It would be nice if we could self buff with this (not as nice if we could sell buff in a venue).

This would keep the role of cantinas the same, and give a nice bonus source of income for those of us the choose to master these profressions.

(Healing mind DAMAGE would be very, very nice.)
