Thread: How to solve AFK and the can't find an Entertainer problem with Inspiration buffs

Well, let's say we ditch the pop-up idea.

What other methods would be effective in telling us, the Entertainer, that someone wants a buff? A system message?

We know the /setperform function will send a system message to the person getting buffed that we direct our attention to them. Maybe something in the other direction?

The message could be distinct enough to use Chat phrase colorization to notice it easily. It could go in the Combat queue, or be a system message.

Maybe there could be a command that someone who enters the cantina can type, like /seekinspiration, and the messages get fired to the Entertainers in the area:

%TT looks like they're seeking some inspiration.

-or-

Someone walks into the cantina and types /seekinspiration. This makes their names flash different colors (similar to how the game now has the GCW function where names flash colors when they're changing from On Leave to Combatant to Special Forces). Only Entertainers can see the person flashing colors. It should be distinctive from the GCW color flashing. This tells anyone through their radar, or by putting their cursor over someone, that they're looking for inspiration.

An Entertainer then brings up the radial menu on that person and selects "Inspire."

Upon someone receiving inspiration, a UI screen pops up on the customer's end, telling the person:

  • theirexisting buff's duration (0 if not buffed)

  • the accumulatedduration for the buff they're currently receiving (current buff being applied- they can watch the duration fill up, so if they /stoplisten or /stopwatch they know what they get)

  • a total accumulated buff duration amount (existing buff + buff currently being applied) and

  • a Tip Amount box with a default amount set to 0.

If the Entertainer chooses, they may type /checkinspire and this will bring up a UI pop up on the Entertainer's end, telling them:

  • the customer'sexisting buff's duration (0 if not buffed)

  • the customer's accumulatedduration for the buff they're currently receiving (current buff being applied- they can watch the duration fill up, so if they /stoplisten or /stopwatch they know what they get)

  • the customer'stotal accumulated buff duration amount (existing buff + buff currently being applied)

  • Tip Amount box showing how much the customer will tip. This cannot be changed by an Entertainer.

I dunno, what ideas do people have?

I like all these ideas although I'd be nervous to allow people slow-charging buffs in unmanned cantinas.

I'd like to see cantinas return to the hoppin' locations they were in the first stretch of live -- I remember there being at least 5 people, and frequently many more than that, in the cantinas on Talus, and now that entire planet is empty, heh heh. I'd like to see extended inspiration benefits for people while they are in the cantina, at least for crafters, etc. that could be working in there. Right now, I hate the fact that the very small numbers of crafters that can afford experimentation attachments get the majority of the hype and sales on a given server... Maybe if being "inspired" while crafting added an extra experimentation point, non-stackable with CA and AA bonuses, it would help that problem and encourage more active cantinas.

Although, crafters hard at work might not be the best targets for striking up conversations with, I suppose...

extending on war's new idea...

first, fix targeting of the nala and the box, as this is important.

the seek command would be /seekinspiration <target> <tip amount>

so I could come in and tyle /seekinspiration warryyr 5000 to let warryyr know I'd like him to inspire me for 5000 credits, and I'm also automagically targeted for Warryyr.

Warryyr simply types /setperform if he wants to inspire me. If he does, I get a system message saying I'm being inspired. If he doesn't type /setperform within say 10 seconds, then I geta message saying Warryyr failed to inspire me (or something.)

This way, the entertainer sees the tip amount up front, and said tip amount is automatically transferred when the inspiration is delivered.

Now, this does lead up to the ability for entertainers to rip people off by /setp on a huge tip and then immediately stop playing. So maybe the game will have to automatically prorate the tip amount if a full buff is not applied for whatever reason.

Point is, I think you gotta have the tip amount agreed on up front, and have it automatically deducted.

Also, all /commands in relation to buffing would be non-macroable.

I've just been checking the Dancers forums and there was a suggestion by Coreena there that struck me as genius for its simplicity. In fact I really do quite like the idea, so here it is in my own words:

1. A patron walks in to the cantina and starts to /listen or /watch

2. A radial option to 'Apply Enhancement' appears on the players radial to the entertainer.

3. Entertainer selects the option and the player is now buffed.

Obviously we have to talk to the player and discuss a fee, but we do that now anyway.

If we were to expand Coreena's idea a bit more, like this:

1. A patron walks in to the cantina and starts to /listen or /watch

2. A radial option to 'Apply Enhancement' appears on the players radial to the entertainer.

3. Once selected, a small box pops up to say 'Enter fee if required' and you enter 500cr or whatever and click ok. Leave blank if buff is free.

4. Message pops up on patrons screen 'Tanoo wishes to inpsire you for 500cr. Do you accept?'

5. The player clicks yes or no.

3. The player is now being buffed if accepted. Once buff is complete, or the patron leaves before buff is complete, the money is transferred to the entertainer.

Now all that is needed is a small window so we can see who we are buffing and keep track of how long is left. Its a very simple idea, stops the entertainer being spammed with pop-ups, and prevents afk as long as it is not the default radial option and not macroable. In order to prevent entertainers spamming the patrons with buff messages hoping they will click yes by accident, the /addignore command needs to stop the buff requests if the patron ignores an ent.

What do people think of this idea?

The thread is here: Clicky and the post is by Coreena.

My personal preference is not to have the pop up to enter a fee. I like the way it is at the moment where I can talk to the patron, banter with him over the fee. It gives some interaction. As it is, if the patron wants a buff they can take it by joining a group and getting it passively. If the devs remove the group buffing passive feature we have now then the simple idea of Coreena's will work very well I feel.

Thoughts?

No one should be able to get a buff from an entertainer without paying for it.

I've worked RL as a dancer and if a customer wanted more than to just watch the "base" dance he paid for it. He paid me, I danced for him, a very simple concept. If anyone wants a buff they should come up and ask for, I decide if I want to supply one and if so I targetthem and give it to them. They can pay me either thru a tip before i give the buff or thru a game interface enforcing payment but they do not get a buff unless they pay my asking price even if that price is zero. This is the way things work RL, this is the way things work for any other profession that supplies a product or service in the game, what is so hard about applying this simple concept to us?

There needs to be a "%TT is considering another offer" feedback, and a customer controlled "automatically reject inspiration invitation" toggle, both to prevent from overzealous "claimjumpers"

Possible an "LFI" tag option. or better still for RP purposes, /mood uninspired

Even better, if the "Inspire" radial only appears when someone is watch/listening to you specifically. Possibly a submenu so we can charge for 1 or more types of inspiration (too finicky maybe).

Edit- maybe if different songs/dances inspired different ways/combinations? No, also sounds complicated, I do/don't like the simplicity of the basic idea. I just want more control.
