Thread: What Musicians are missing!
"The music Mozart wrote controls an entire orchestra's performance. Someone conducting that orchestra controls the timing of the whole shebang."
A conductor does not CONTROL the musicians. The musician playing is responsible for following the conductors designated tempo and reading the sheet music. What you're talking about is the equivalent of synchronizing player pianos, not musicians.
I agree that there could be more high-end musician content, but I don't think letting one person assume control over the entire performance is the way to do it. If you continue the analogy of combat professions, the performance is like the dragon raid. You must have experienced players who prepare beforehand and work together with practiced timing and precision to pull off the good song. Each toon has to be controlled individually or you're geeting close to a RTS-type game.
My idea? Sound recordings. Let a musician master build and operate a recording studio, Musicians can come in and record songs using instruments available to their level.
(This will never happen, but here's how I would envision it). You open a mini-window which lists your tracks. First you could lay down your omnibox track. Simply select what you want for each measure. Start, stop, base track, or one of the flourishs. ALmost like a word processor you fill in what you want. You then do the same for the other instruments pausing to listen to the entire track as you go. This is somewhat similar I believe but you actually can control the performance without controlling the musicians.
When the recording is complete, you save it in one of your studio slots. You can then make recording disks from the master and sell them. Benefit? Well, recordings might only be usable in a camp one time and heal mind wounds at a slower rate. (No battle fatigue though).
If I was truly insane?
Let dancers make holographic recordings of their routines to accompany the recordings.
So you might get to your camp. Pop out the recording and see a holographic image of a twi-lek dancing to a recorded tune.
Those of you saying that you can't write a reliable macro to play a
song just aren't very good at writing macros I guess, cuz no one I
know has had any problems with it.
- "/pause" does not run at a constant time.
- Macros cannot be cancelled once they've been started
- Secure trade and macros do not mix
- In-game text editing plain sucks, making macros in-game is a pain
Kronx, if you read carefully the part of my message you quoted, you'll notice that I never claimed a conductor controls the whole band. My exact words were "... controls the timing of ..." Your point seems to be that you want more control over the playing by individual band members, but I'm not sure what control over playing those members get when /bandflourish is thrown around liberally.
I would be very surprised to see any interest taken in the Musician profession at all though, to be honest. It's a very small market segment.
i really like a lot of these ideas please read this SOE please please it would be excelent to have
here's my 2 cents
having this 'score' may make the bandflourishing work better in lag because maybe the score loads and thus times thing better then the lagged way we do it. for those who don't think they want to give up this control then i propose this..... a 'score screen' ie the bandleader loads the song you type a / cmd and the 'score loads' maybe karioki style telling you that flourish 5 is comming up....now! and allowing txt to say your solo time ect to help to enable 'spotlighting' particular people at particular times... this would still require people to practice and play as a band while allowing much more control for us to 'perform'... i really like the idea of being able to control dancers and musicians but feel theres no good way to implement it and that its not an apropreate spot for Master entertainer so the dance leader and band leader "performance directors" would just have to work in tandem. To me this is a beter idea since many people are trying to be cantina owners this maybe a good skill for someone like that ie the skill tree allows you to do this, register your cantina on the map, advertise it, set access fees, vendorsect all things to help promote the cantina and make money while running this biz... it seems to be an up and comming proffession and this would severly help to make that more fun. also please add a bar to potential furniture archtechs can make. and a stage and mic's. Wow i love this thread i hope it gets read and accepted/ implemented... I feel private cantinas are the way to go for our profession and this would severly help us make our way through the galaxy
cheers
