You're all correct that to get the Ithorians to play instruments in different positions to account for mouth placement would require new animations, instrument artwork, etc.

Personally, if the devs were to assign real time to creating new artwork and animations, I'd rather have them spend that time on more new songs and dances than nuances such as how those animations line up with the character. In a perfect world, we could have it all. In a realistic world, I'd rather see that limited time used to expand our repertoire.

Just add a simple adapter to the wind instruments - kind of like a doctor's stethoscope. It attaches to the mouthpiece at one endand two tubes go to each mouth. Simply have it appear wheneveran Ithorian plays such an instrument, and hey-presto, you have a simple solution with the minimum programmingwork. No new animations, no complex instrument artwork; just a simple tube graphic. Problem solvedafter a couple ofhours (at most) ofdesign and implementation.

Since June 2004, running one of the game's first completely nonviolent characters. Testing the limits of non-combat MMORPG play and trying to have fun into the bargain (although the developers make it difficult).

Combat is no longer compulsory.

Ithorians are herbivorous pacifists and are often called 'Meerian Hammer-heads' by those fascinated by their bizarre, ladle-shaped necks and wide-set eyes. Ithorians also have mouths on both sides of their curved necks, which results in a unique 'stereophonic' speaking voice.

....... would be nice if they also had "stereophonic" sounding instruments...

Maybe when they implement Dual Wielding weaponry for Pistols, and One handed, they will give it to the Itho Musicians? Yes, its a funny thought, but I'm somewhat serious. No added experience, just the simple abilty to play Slither, Fanfar, Fizzz, Chidi, and Traz, one in each hand, leading to each mouth.

Apart from that, I totally agree with Beery's idea. It was what I was going to post almost word for word, when I was told of this thread before I read it.

I wish I could comment, but the JTL beta NDA precludes public comment. Again, I'm quite aware of the concerns about Ithorian Musicians, and I passed them on to the devs well before I started the JTL beta.

You expect a Dev to spend a couple of hours fixing something for Entertainers? How could you possibly expect something so unreasonable. The devs are busy people...I mean look at the focus thread for the "Entertainer Quests." No Dev has been able to find the 2 seconds to come in and say "We're still reading this and will get back to you." Unless there's some sort of Dev initiation party or gauntlet run, I don't think any Entertainment aspect of the game will get more work. They just...don't...care.

That's a great idea even if I do have some doubts about whether they will bother with doing it. Hopefully someone in the Development team has thought about an even better idea that we don't know about yet! Here's hoping!

Well, I can imagine animation and artissues with Ithorians raise issues for a number of professions, not just Musicians. Just speculating here, no NDA breach.

I imagine any emotes an Ithorian can't do without modifications they simply won't do. The text will still be there, unchanged, but without any animation. That's how it is with me as a Rodian, anyway. I can't wink--no eyelids.

*thinks of the number of Emote animations that would need to be programmed specially*

Well, they told us in the Beta forums......... basically they do not have enough time to make this look right currently, but they are aware of the issue, and may make a special mouthpiece for Ithorian Musicians some time in the future.

At least we got a response though.

[front page] Two new characters species will be introduced in Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed. First to be revealed, the Ithorian.

DEVs, have the devs considered the thought of Ithorian Musicians? How will Ithorian Musicians be handled graphically? Will they be able to play a slitherhorn and a traz at the same time from their two mouths? If not, which mouth will they play from? How will they hold the instrument since their mouths are on the side of their neck?

Please get this checked on.

thanks

This is a serious issue, IMHO... I think I brought this up early enough to have deserved a response by now...

thanks

The animations for the Ithorians will not change currently, though in the future, we've discussion giving them a special instrument that has a stethoscope sort of mouthpiece. They would hold the instrument in the same fashion as everyone else, but the mouthpiece would split and wrap around to both mouths.

I am not happy about the outcome, but I am greatful for the response.
