Great list New Jedi Keep up the fantastic work!

#14 needs to include the effect droids. The effect "drops" below the stage.

Very good list. The only thing I personally would change is to remove the statement to make buffs stronger or longer. Instead I would perfer to see doc buffs come down to our level. We do need a decent buff interface.

For item number 1 you might add that AFK play in general is destroying the immersive quality, game quality, and server qualityfor everyone not just entertainers. SOE has just got to wake up and see the damage AFK play is causing and quit listening to a vocal few power acheivers.

Looks great, covers all my main issues with our current situation.

Forgive me for not being overly enthusiastic regarding this, though - I imagine it will be filed away in TH's or Tiggs' file cabinet under the title "Emergency Toilet Paper." Perhaps they can photocopy our concerns, then they'll both benefit in case the SOE janitor isn't attentive enough to their restrooms.

I don't see any of our issues being resolved within the next 2 years, if ever. I'veforced myself to come to terms with this. Why am I so utterly negative about this? Well, I'll tell you (and don't let this discourage you necessarily, this is just my opinion on the way we currently exist in this game):

When a profession in a MMORPG (let alone THREE) gets degraded to the level of Player Controlled NPC's, who are robots and provide the same benefit to the game community in a way wholly impossible for a person really playing the game can provide AND this perpetuates for months and months on end, while the play value of actively playing and paying customers of the game gets dashed to pieces, I would think that immediate action on the part of those in charge of this game would be in order. But, they haven't done a thing. This is an all-out playstyle emergency, and we don't matter for **edit**. We got a forum post and then forgotten about again for months. Hoorah, no wonder why I have no faith left in the Devs of this game.

Seriously NewJedi, excellent job in amassing that from all that stuff. Ugh, glad I didn't do it. You really hit the nail on the head with it, and I feel like it pretty much encapsulates our major issues with our profession. But, I don't trust a single thing the Devs say (pfffft....Devs? Say something to us? Hahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaa....oh geez, my sides hurt) and I don't think we'll see these wonderful and necessary changes ever come to fruition. That makes me sad, but I'm done with the false hope that this Dev team really cares about us - until some glorious day that they actually make me feel like I'm getting some kind of service for the money I pay them. Until then, I'm doing the best with what I've got and expecting nothing - that way I'm never let down. Sorry, but the way we've been treated in this game has made me feel this way. And, people who complain when a Mind buff doesn't work get a backhand from me - because they're usually the same people griping when we ever get an ounce of attention because we're "working fine and combat is more important."

Can't wait until the Combat Revamp. If I get the chance, I'm taking full advantage to hold these Devs to the fact that we ARE involved in Combat (in a passive role), and we DO have valid and important issues that NEED to be addressed. If nothing else, it will give them more Emergency Toilet Paper. Because sometimes janitors don't restock the TP soon enough.

Ah well, time for lunch. Later.

1) All AFK play must go. Musicians must have all our healing and buffing abilities made active just as the medics are.

2) More music. The existing instruments should all have unique sounds, new songs should be added, and more instruments (that are not horns) should be added.

3) Better paying Gig Missions. Musicians (and entertainers in general) must be given a income that is independent from other players, not something that rival master combaters, just something as effective as the recon mission on the explore mission terminals.

4) Give us a clear definition of our role in SWG in general as well as in the GCW. If we do not know what we are mend to do, then we can not come up with meaningful suggestions and feed back on how to improve our profession.

(5) Take a more active role in moderating anti entertainer commentary in the games and on the boards. If moderators on the boards would lock topics that defend or promote buffboting, and AFK in general, with a comment that it is an unwanted game play style and that it will be removed sometimes in the future. We would have more peace to discuss out profession. You do not even have to go look for the posts. I think that many of us would gladly report such posts to the moderators when we come across them.
Like wise we need to be able to report such commentary in game, If CSR's would just lock out any AFKer found using a skill or spaming text in special, planet, or auction chat.

Thanks for the comments so far, fellow Musicians. I'll try to incorporate as many as I can. There's still time for more comments, so if you haven't weighed in yet, please feel free to do so.

I realize my views aren't popularly held ones. On the other hand, I don't think I'm alone in the ways I think the Musician profession could be improved.

  1. Healing Passivity: Performer healing/buffing should have to be active, should not be possible to do passively. I think addressing that would effectively kill 'buffbots' and 'healbots,' which would cause a revival of interest in the professions from those who are inclined to pursue them, but don't because of the whole AFK/buffbot issue. Ergo, fixing this is my true top priority, because I think it would address the symptom that is AFK macrotaining.

  2. Buff Interface: Give us an un-macroable interface for buffing. It's our only true commodity. Even our healing can be done by a Cantina, albeit excruciatingly slowly.

  3. Registration: Fix player cantinas, theaters and med centers being set to on/staffed at server reset. This is the true problem with /register. If people could look on the Planetary Map and SEE where Musicians (and Dancers, and Doctors) were on duty, I think it would help tremendously. Though it would also be really terrific if we could /register in Hotels and Taverns, too. And leaving the game world should cancel it, which it currently does not.

  4. Crafting: I want craftables. I want instrument quality to matter in our healing, or buffing, or if the instrument sucks and we're n00b performers to hit wrong notes (akin to Dancers falling). I want to be able to make a "recording" that can be played in a droid in a venue where we could heal anyway. Make it function at 1/2 the performer's skill so it's less desirable, or make it require Novice Entertainer to use, like medic stims and woundpacks, but give the option for us to function on the same level as medics. There are hundreds of medics/doctors who never craft other than to get their mastery, but there are plenty more who supply pharmaceuticals for the whole community if they get something out of it.

  5. Denial of Service: Why can anyone do this, even if they aren't Entertainers? It's used as a griefing tool, for goodness sake. It should work off our Ignore List.

  6. Give each horn, the bandfill and ommni boxunique sounds. And implement those songs we've been told have been recorded for months. Totally new instruments would be terrific, but just fleshing out what's already drawn would be great. Re-doing the flourishes and base loop so that any flourish segues into any other and the base loop would also be fantastic.

  7. I'd like to be involved, as a Musician, in the GCW, Force Sensitivity and quests that do more than re-hash the newbie helper droid quests. And for goodness' sake, put a bloody tavern in the Aurellian village.

  8. Get over this obsession with Wound Healing. Give us some help with Fatigue Healing. Force Sensitivity, food/drink, bio-tissue...something.

  9. Make gig missions something on which you can support a character with a vehicle, medium house and buying food. The level they're at right now is downright insulting.

  10. Give droid engineers a module to put into droids that at the very least allows us to cure battle fatigue outside our professional structures, as medics and doctors do. If we had to go to scout camps or our professional buildings for wound healing and buffs, fine. Well...not really, but it'd be better than where we're at now.

  11. Make Ommni Boxes and Narlagons like vehicles or droids, so they can't be stolen/used by other players. (But make it so we can call them indoors.) And fix their relation to the Z axis so we can use them on balconies, roofs and player theater stages. And somehow get rid of the need to keep them constantly targetted.

  12. Bugs like /startband, /changeband, "you direct your performance to %TT," T'ssolock not working at all and others have been around for just a ridiculous amount of time. We've reported them endlessly. Please actually address them.

  13. Some quest-granted item that equals our colleague's Exquisite Dancer's Leotard. That, patch messages addressing changes as "Entertainer and Dancer changes," and that all gig missions are "Dancer" missions, even when they're music ones, makes me feel even lower on the pole than Dancers.

Warryyr, you hit the nail on the head... sadly. We probably won't be seeing these changes soon. What if we didn't submit an actual list, but merely said "if you want our top 5, read the boards from any time in the past 12 months?"

Also, we need to have the lack of developer communication of ANY form bumped up, no way it shouldn't be in the top 10 if not the top 5. If devs actully communicated (not dictated, 2 way street in communication) with us, i'm sure we'd be much, much happier and have fewer problems.

Thanks for your detailed comments, guys. FWIW, Warplex, I'm just compiling how often each issue was raised in my "top issues" thread, and while communication issues were mentioned by a number of players, they weren't mentioned as frequently or as prominently as the issues "ahead" of those issues on the list. I'm just tallying votes here, not stating my own preferences.

Well, I tried this before and then lost it all due to my internet timing out and me not remembering to re-up it before hitting submit.

I like the list here, I think it contains all of the majorbugs, issues, and problems I have with Musician. However, they are quite a bit different so far as priority goes. Here, for your enjoyment is the Lilo Revised-Priority Listing (I've retained NewJedi's numbering, and listed them from most important to least important as I see them.)

1. AFK macrotaining/Buffbots

10. Dev communication

11. Sense of vision/direction for profession

4. Missions & Content

3. New songs, instruments, and sounds

6./7. Ommni Box & Nalargon targetting issues

14. Fix Player Theaters

13. Fix /startband and /changeband

2. Improve buff interface (at least fix "you direct your performance to %TT")

8. Give Entertainers more paths to Jedi

18. CSR's need to be more responsive

17. Better clothes for Musicians (and for men)

12. Role for Entertainers in GCW

20. Flourishes don't always flow together well

16. Make instrument quality matter

9. Player cantinas could use improvements (*cough* gambling *cough*)

5. Fix /register

15. Variety of healing/buffing places--more mobility

19. /report should have better functionality

*safely copies this to Notepad before hitting submit*

I like it. Send it.

Personally:
1.) I think our buffs should cost us something. That way the AFK'ers have to make a sacrifice for their 24/7 buffs.
2.) Our buffs are already balanced for the Combat Balance.

FYI: I saw today someone running a Squad Leader AFK on a macro during PvP for their group. Just left him in the back doing /formup commands to heal the group's Dizzy state.

For number 3, I'd love to see the volume of the instruments balanced in Western. The chid and traz are nearly silent, which is too bad because they're really pretty cool. That should be a trivial change to make. If the devs really wanted to make us happy, give musicians a volume control, so that we can balance the instruments ourselves.

I personally think 1, 2 & 5 are all sides of the same coin. If the buff interface (issue 2) were improved to include feedback and interactivity, that would naturally solve the buffbot issue (#1). Fixing /register (#5) will have far more value if buffbots are gone. Personally, I don't think fixing /register without dealing with buffbots is particularly helpful. After all, the bots can simply register themselves.

I would like to add that Musicians should get something with Musical Mind Enhancement to correspond to the Exquisite Leotard the Dancers get. (And it would be nice if whatever we get works for both genders...)

I only have one issue I want fixed now

stop the AFK epidemic

it's easy to do... all that must be done is remove the checkbox that allows you to turn off the auto-AFK timer... then after (a maximum of) 30 minutes of being AFK you are logged off.
