i recently saw a person on dathomir who actually managed to be able to afk buff poeple by putting up auto join and having some activation start. is this alowed? if not, the person is always in the dathomir outpost on the eclipse galaxy. female twilek. i thought it was horrible that someone was actually becoming that automated. *shudder*

So called BuffBots have been on StarSider for awhile now. Doctors can do the same thing, but it's not as effective.

And yes it's legal, the entire AFK buff macro can be accomplished with in-game commands. Now whether or not you agree with it is another issue.

I'd been thinking about writing an AFK buff script just to see if it could be done. Sorry to hear somebody beat me to the punch.

My idea might still be cooler, though. It involves two scripts running in parallel, one to cycle between player targets, one to launch the buff at timed intervals...

I have a Master Dancer/Musician that AFK buffs in are city. I love it and the 300 + peeps that go there a day also like it. IMHO i pay the same as you to have the 3rd acount and if i chose to AFK buff with him to help peeps out then so be it.

Bloke has been a master Dancer/Musician befor holos came out and i agre that Afk holo grinding peeps did hurt us but i do not see where my AFK buffing is hurting anyone.

One question: If you had to play your mule in order to provide the same level of 24/7 free service, could you physically, mentally, or emotionally do it?

Well I am a Master Dancer, and Mayor of New Hope on Dantooine (Ahazi). I too leave Laviniaa on AFK with a buff macro.... but only cause I can't find a single live ent to join our guild

I've been recruiting hard, but am tired of going to the cantina's to recruit and getting laughed out of the joint cause I chose to be an ent.

I mean its not like the city's traffic wouldn't support some ents, an Entertainer Doc would have a field day!

As I said I'm the mayor of my city, and between guildies, and the visitors who grind missions out of our city my services are required. I am still actively recruiting and will be 'till we get a guild band (which is my ultimate goal). I'm gonna post a recruitment thread in a second.

But, I just wanted to drop in my two cents,

I ONLY leave her in there cause I have no other choice and in ourguild's city I'm not really stealing business from anyone else since there are no other ents in our PA to steal the business from.

And heck if you thought a /join was bad... there are players out there with a /invite (player name) in their macros. This invites the specific player everytime the macro repeats, thus you can have a list and charge a montly fee, or a weekly fee to remain on the list..... charge say 100k to stay on the list, wake up, turn on your bot and walk off. Pop a random disband in there every hour or so to make sure there the group doesn't get stuck full and your all set....... BAM! super buff bot!

I leave laviniaa in there only cause there is nobody else who will do the job..... I am however recruiting and live ents only! please!

Laviniaa:

You don't have toleave your character on in order to provide service to your city's patrons. What you do by doing that is three things:

1) It gives your city and PA the impression that what we do is neither a payable, nor appreciated service that is more a right to have rather than a priveledge. Trust me dear, once they get used to bots, they don't want us anymore.

2) It makes sure that pretty much no entertainer who visits your city cantina will wish to play there, since you pretty much show by your example that you want buff dispensers, and not entertainers who love to entertain. Certainly I don't want to compete with a master dancer for clientele who not only know you, but get everything you have to give for free.

3) People come to appreciate your "non play" over your actual play, because you aren't respecting what you do enough to do it only when you are there. Most live entertainers I know are not in PAs, because inevitably the PA wants abuff dispenser on demand, and not a real person.

You say you want the live thing and respect for entertainers, but by "botting out" your skills, you actually show contempt for what we do. Because tell me: If you had to provide 24/7 service on demand to whoever wants it for no pay, and could only do it LIVE and at the keys, would you still be as selfless and generous with your skills? Not only wouldn't you, you physically couldn't do it. Now here are some ways you can get service to your city's patrons:

1) Join or create an entertainment channel in the server chat. On Intrepid, I had a chat channel /NoAFK. On Bria currently, we have a channel called /ent. Have you or your patrons use these channels if they find an empty cantina. Usually, there are about 7 or so live entertainers who can get there rather quickly.

2) Have your patrons do a /search and find an entertainer near them.Players havealways had this option available, but are too lazy to even use it now because they know that bots like you will always be there giving out free services.

3) Find live entertainers and add them to your friends list. If there is an empty cantina, then contact one of them.

Because if you truly believe that entertainment should come from a live player, then you need to first respect yourself and only give out services if you are live. If you bot out your character, then you send out a signal saying, "CoV wants bots, not real players," and live entertainers like me will know that our charm as witty performers is not as important to you, your PA, or your city as just sheer, available service by mimicing a machine. Respect what we do, and then other entertainers will respect you.

And before you people just grade them with a star, have something to say. Don't be like the chicken who gave me one star and was too afraid to actually say anything because he knows I am right.
