Thread: Anyone a Musician in RL? Because...
I've noticed a bug in the song code for every low level tune, at least. They are in 4/4 time, of course (or, at least the ones I can play) and the time is off by at least a 16th or 32nd beat---after the end of a flourish and on the attack of the very next measure. It's driving me insane and, last night, gave me a major headache (as Low helped me get musician III in Coronet and I had to play for a long long time).
Please help, fellow musicians. If you aren't a musician in RL, please help as well...listen carefully, tap along with the beat of the low level songs and you will see/hear the late attack.
It's there and it's killing me heh heh. Please, please check it out and let me know if you can hear it, as well.
thanks

I dont think its a mistake or anything its just that since you are a begining to play musci your not a master or good player yet and as you go up the skill tree in playing music you get better and those errors go away... its all about Role Playing....hell no one can play music good when they just start playing....by the way i am not a real life musician and dont know anything about music thats just my idea...

I'm a musician in RL, and I've heard others raise similar complaints about our loops (flourishes), but to be honest I can't hear much of it. I do occasionally hear a little silence between loops, but no delay. I'll be curious whether you still perceive it as a delay (rather than a silence) once you get drums. The phenomenon is easiest to track with drums, and to me it sounds like a simple gap between flourishes rather than a delayed downbeat.
NJ, I hear the late attack even more with the drum/bass instrument (whatever it's called). I come from a band (Trio) who obsessed with perfect timing (drummer was a freakin nut over it
). It's there. I thought it might just be in ensemble play, but testing today revealed it's on every song (even Folk which I just learned).
The loop starts over (non flourish) on the third measure of Folk and the attack is late. Can't you hear it? Add in a drum and it glares out. It really is killing me heh. I've /bugged it in game.

hmmm. Sorry, I didn't read your response fully. A 'gap' between flourishes...hmmm. Well, certainly I hear it more if I am doing flourishes, but as I say, I also tested sans flourish and the missed attack is there. It makes trying to play really horrible for me.

RL I'm not a musician but I do have some musical training, though old and rusting away..
However I did record all of Jazz and load it into a mixing program and I noticed two issues.. The first is there is a bit of a delay between flourishes.. In the case of Jazz it's 4/4 with 3 measures per flourish. However when I had the program I was using mark the beats and play a metronome, it was spot on for the first flourish, then started drifting. I had to clip out a short bit of audio at the beginning of each flourish to get it to line up.
Is that what you are referring to? Or is it just the very first beat in the first measure of a flourish that bothers you?
Just read your new response.. If it is the game you are referring to...
I suspect the problem is one of synchronization and timing on the servers. I'm not sure the solution, to be honest. The problem is if someone hits a bit of network lag, either you throw them off from everyone else completely (Bad for trying to synchronize acts) or you have to skip forward or backward...
It is definately a problem though. It is a bit annoying, yes.
I can play a COUPLE notes on guitar, some VERY SMALL songs on piano, and i just mess with harmonicas. So in RL you can call me a Novice Entetainer, always playing a crapy song that NO1 wants to hear again.......
About that, i really dont hear anything but music.....not timing.
Is it in Ballad? Cause that song is PERFECT and i dont want that to change, espically flourish 8, that long note playing....it makes a traz sound GOOD
Thanks, Tia
I'm refering to the music in game, yes. And the late attack repeats at the same point each time, each song. For example, play 'Folk' and let it run. It loops after 2 measures (I believe--playing it in my head right now). On the attack of the third measure there is a noticeable delay. I'm thinking 16th or 32nd beat late--probably 16th since it's driving me crazy heh. Add in a drum instrument and you can really hear the late attack---it makes it seem as if the song is just began again or has switched time signatures but never resolves back into the original time signature.
I, too, thought it was lag and synchronization. But how can that be when it happens at the same point each and every time? There is some sort of sequencing mistake in there---someone miscounted the beats and added the attack in a 16th or 32nd beat late.
It is more than annoying. It's giving me a headache to listen to, ruining the otherwise nice music system we have ![]()
Please, NJ, can you mention this to the appropriate Dev?
thanks

There's no "delay" as in the time, if you use a metronome it stays on the beat unless something gets laggy.
The loops themselves are about a 32nd note too short, so there is a silence at the end of the loops. More noticeable on certain songs and flourishes than others. Especially noticeable with a bandfill or ommni.
I agree...nicely done. I had no idea these professions would be so much fun. I bring this one problem up because, like I say above, my own training was intense on timing. Thus, it stands out huge and unavoidable on nearly every song. I can't ignore it and it's giving me a headache to play.
Another gripe: I play guitar, myself. Why can't I choose my instrument? I hear a stringed instrument is reserved for the maestros? HEH...in real life, horns are a lot harder to play than a guitar (er, well, modern rock / jazz guitar, at least. Classical, well, that's a whole 'nother help line).
Anyway, other than this, I also can't stand having only a single song for each rank to play. That, also, defies how things work in RL---and, no doubt, even in this make-believe world. No real musician only knows one song. Of course, he or she may be learning a single song at a time, though that also is highly unlikely if they every hope to play for money ![]()
anyway
thanks

i never really listened that closely to the timing as i used to play a little bit of horns and such but i can hear it as soon as i listened for it the song seems to drag for a second almost like it's an old record with a scratch on it making it loop.
I guess that's called vinly i'm not that old hehe
