Thread: Musician (and other) droids worky again
Many droids, including playback droids, are broken, as detailed here on the droid engineer forum. Keldarin is apparently looking into it (his post is from 7/26 when the problem was still on TC). If I see any details on progress, I'll let you know, but Jenden will probably see any info before I do, so you can watch the droid engineer forum.
Edit: This has been fixed.

And here I was starting to think that maybe, just maybe, they had managed to push out a publish without introducing a game-breaking bug for part of their player-base. I really should know better by now than to assume that.
If the speed with which they are fixing the other severe, non-combat bugs (BE clothing, anyone?) can be taken as an example, expect the fix for this sometime in September.
Another case of a known bug on TC getting pushed to live servers. This is just another example of the incompetance of the DEV team, there is no excuse for this. They make an announcement that they are putting off new content to fix bugs but they intoduce a major, known bug like this into the game. What could they possibly be thinking?
OMG this is so sad, do they like have people to look for the few things which still work just so they can break it?
Sorry, but this makes me furious.

And I'm not really talking about the actual programmers. When doing regular changes on code that large and complex, things can and will get broken. Hey, it happens, no big deal. The question is how you deal with it though.
I'm talking about their QA department (which I'm sure must exist in name, even if it's only a hand-written cardboard sign glued to the door of Bob the Plumber's den in the basement) and their management, which are not in the least ashamed or worried to let major, reported, well-documented and well-known bugs slip into Live, breaking or at least inhibiting the game-play of a substantial numbers of their customers.

Why can they not code things properly?
My guess would be this is because of the creature command changes (specials etc) and since droids are also "pets" something in the creature changes has interefered with it.
For those students of computer programming, this is a prime example of why you should make sure you sequester your code. There is no logical reason why changing creature functions should have the tiniest bit of effect on droids, if the devs sequestered their code and functions properly.
That they do NOT do this, is evidenced by the massive # of things that break in unrelated systems whenever they make a change to anything. What is sad is, I am just an code amateur (no formal training) and I know this. These guys are pros, and they still do not seem to know the basics of computer programming 101. Yuck.

Double blah, I'm a DE and this is hurting my bottom line, and causing people to ask me why the droid they bought from me doesn't work right.
Thanks for posting about this Scip, so that people know what the heck is going on.

sigh! I guess there is not much reason for me to continue being a entertainer. The only reason I still have a entertainer was to group with my droid and play songs. I honestly have gave up on musician, it was the last enjoyable part of entertaining for me. What is the point in continuing, can anyone explain that to me?
I have been nerfed and nerfed, I have lost the ability to be combat and musician. (can not do what I wish at level 54). Decided on only theknowledge branch to still have some sort of enjoyment playing music. Found out I needed to scratch that idea drop combat to pick up the New (Old) skills I had. Then today I log in ready to try have a little fun and there goes that idea. My droid does not have any playback tracks to start.. grrrr.
I came here and then read that this was reported on a test server. I do not understand why they would allow this to happen at all, unless they want entertainers to keep leaving the hobby!
Right now musician is broken and unplayable for me. I know what to do now, log into Bria and use that token respec.

Leave it to me to find the "Patent Pending Fragpuppie Uber Loophole Bug or Anti-Bug"
I looked at the reports I had seen (including my own one that worked), came up with a theory, then tested on all the chars I have playback droids. The tests stayed within theory, but I needed another droid to test it and luckily I'm still MDE on Starsider. I built the droid, tested and I think proved my theory.
So...here it is.
A droid that has only playback modules or playback and FX modules only will not function. Droids with playback modules PLUS a storage module work completely as intended. Its possible that FX plus a storage will work also.
On Chilastra I have an Adv R3 with 5 playback and 1 storage...he works fine. (pre CU)
On Chilastra I have an Adv R3 with 6 FX mods...he does not work. (pre CU)
On Bria I have a base R2 with 1 playback and one FX...he does not work. (post CU pre 21)
On Starsider I have an MSE with one playback and 1 FX...he does not work. (post CU pre 21)
On Starsider also I have an MSE with 2 playback....he does not work. (post CU pre 21)
On Starsider I built a MSE with 1 playback and 1 storage....he works fine on 5 store and calls. (post 21)
Anyone have any data to contradict this?
Anyone want to test this for FX?
I can but not right away

Not sure if this is rumour but I have heard that if all the parts of the droid were crafted post publish 21 then the playback modules will work.

Not sure about that, but I can check tomorrow.
The storage module thing DOES work though for both playback and FX.
