Rather than double posting, I'll just throw this up.

This is the same thing that happened to me, and why I had to finally leave dantoonie and some of my dedicated customers who would skip the buff bot and come to me. I used to make a good amount of money, being a musician, doing buffs with my +11 MME buffs, untill a few afkers came in, one of them did both dancer and musician. I felt bad leaving those few who still used me, but I couldnt stand it anymore, I used to make atleast 300k a day doing buffs, but when the bots moved in, I couldnt even make 1 round of buffs in a 3 hour stamina buff.

Now im not complaining that bots are bad. I dont mind them...if they stuck to their own cantinas...I just wish they wouldnt have moved into the NPC cantina's. Ive been playing since beta, and this profession too, and now...I cant stomach going to a npc town and going to a cantina, to get assulted by buff bots. So I stick to my personal one now...but I sure miss going to npc ones cause of the people you can interact with.

It really is a shaim that we cant get better customer service. I mean if you were to provide a service and then give this bad of help to your clientell, they could report you to the better buisness burou thing (sp?) but somehow I dont think you can do that with a game. Again, I dont mind buff bots, but please, show some heart, go to your own cantina and buff, let us live entertainers have the npc cantina's back!!

Anyway...I still love being a musician, and will always be...play my musician 14 hours a day and I dont afk...I wont ever drop it...not yet atleast untill I get majorly screwed...

Unfortunately, buffbotts are very much like young children. No, this isn't a flame . Let me explain...

Young children will keep pushing and testing the limits of behaviour until a very clear limit is set. If you don't set a clear boundary, and let them know what the consequenses of crossing that boundary are, they will continue to exhibit worse and worse behaviour, and eventually, be out of control. (You parents out there know what I'm talking about )

A buffbot has been working in much the same way. EULA says no macros for unattended play, so the bots started testing this limit by going afk in their houses, just for music/dance xp. When there were no consequences, they pushed further and went afk in the cantinas for music/dance xp AND healing xp. And still there was no 'time out/spanking/time in the corner'. Then the buffbots showed up, and stayed in player houses and PA halls. Still with no punishment/boundry setting, they moved in and took over the public cantinas and taverns. They've kept pushing the bounds of good play, and there was no 'parental control' from SOE, so now we have the 'I pay my $15, I can do whatever I want' attitude of spoiled children.

If the ingame CSRs continue to show this lack of interest in the gaming community, then they should be removed. They should have their authority removed, and given to somebody who cares for the growth and maturity of this game.

The EULA is NOT open to interpretation. "You may not use or distribute macros or programs that would allow unattended gameplay." does NOT mean you may use ingame ones, but not 3rd party ones, for the same result.

And I'm sorry... but the same macro message in spatial chat over and over IS spam. Putting in a 31 second pause between each regurgitation does not mean it suddenly becomes 'advertising'. I advertise, but I make sure I don't clutter up spatial chat, and get annoying.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but I just needed to vent. Thanks for hearing me out.

Hehe, You_Myst, I love that diagram.

But you left out Politicians! As one who plays a Politician, I can say with confidence that Politicians get even less love than Musicians. There are no skills at ALL in the Master Politician skill box. We still can't /resign. We have no source of income -- not even tips. I would put the Politicians somewhere inside the earth's geosphere on your diagram.

lol sorry newjedi never even thought about poloticians

without skills in their trees... the profession is little more than somethingelse to eat up skill points to me(just a personal view, i know some people like the profession)

but granted, given the lack of things to do with it and since you reminded me about the profession... yes, i think they would rank lower than us in the devs minds... after all.. spend all your skill points for constant headaches, bickering and political side-stepping... and all for no in-game rewards... sounds like it was just a dev afterthought and timesink profession.

Hey... if politicians are that much lower than us (kind of true to life eh?)...

then that means we're not the lowest!!!

This is cause for celebration!!

Poor politicians... even us lowly entertainers forgot to include them in our thoughts.

I will most wholeheartedly agree that Politicians get seriously shafted. But...here's one thing that I always think right after thinking that: you can't be just a Politician. To be even a Novice Politician takes Apprentice Points...so you had to have taught something else that you've gained skills in. And there's only the one tier of Politician. It is possible to be nothing but an Entertainer, and still not even master every facet of it.

Erm...I remember when Azildin, Mayor of Agathon, Dantooine was going up through the ranks of Politician. Don't you get different things to do with the city? Like, able to have your city's facilities show up on the map, able to place more/bigger decorations, set the city's specialization to different things? Or is that all based on the city's size?

Now...someone who's both a Politician and an Entertainer of some stripe...now that's a masochist!

Hey, about this . . . I've been hearing this rumor about a future patch that'll make looping macros impossible. I suspect this has been heavily discussed already and that I've just missed those discussions--but does anybody have a sense of how this will affect the world of buffbots and AFK grinding?

Good LORD how I would love to see those things disappear from the public eye. The cantinas would flower, friggin' flower I tell you.

Believe me, I am in no way defending buffbots. However, I believe that it has been stated by those who run the game that the EULA regarding macros really *does* only pertain to 3rd party programs. I honestly don't think we have a leg to stand on by continuing to bring it up.

However, that in no way takes away from the fact that I believe unattended gameplay does not belong in this game or any other game. I think even the devs realize how damaging it is. And, most experienced gamers who actually care about more in the game that immediate convenience and uber power will agree that unattended gameplay is the bane of online games. They, quite simply, ruin them.

Steps are being taken, hopefully, to end it. However, I, for one, don't intend to stop complaining about it until it actually happens. I just think we need to use other arguments besides the EULA. After all, the devs wrote the EULA, they have free reign to interpret it however they feel like interpreting it. It's our jobs to keep convincing them that maybe the EULA *should* be interpreted to include all macros that allow unattended play, including the ones in game. Or, at the very least, even if they never come out and say that the EULA will henceforth be interpreted differently, we still have to show how damaging unattended play is and keep fighting against it until it's removed.
