Please do not use this thread for anything other than discussing exactly what I mention... please post all your recomendations for our question in NewJedi's official thread, thanks.

my question:

"What does SOE plan to do about this [elaborate]? If SOE plans to do nothing, then please read the following list of Entertainers that are going to cancel their account as of the posting of the official answer to this question:

  • Sartinius L'Xon of Bria (LeBob)

Beery has already shown what the answer to this will be in the thread on the entertainer forum (and I believe this is highly probable):

"SOE is investigating this issue and will inform you of the results" (Of course I would expect to see some pigs flying before the investigation is completed). They get off the hook by saying action is being taken.

Earlier I suggested only one profession needed to ask about the AFK situation. I wonder now if it would be better if ALL THREE correspondants submitted the exact same question. We could tell TH we expect him to use the time to fully get an answer as he only has to get one answer to cover three professions.

Do people think that's worthwhile? Or should we go with one AFK question and a Theed,Naboo/Coronet,Corellia pair?

LeBob,

I think so long as the question specifies what the badge was given for, and the fact that it was given while the player was completely AFK, it will make a good point.

I vote for asking why in the hell an AFK buffbot got a badge for being a credit to her profession, or whatever she got.

MAN, i'm still fuming over this, and I'm trying to avoid posting anymore until I calm the **edit** down.

It is my opinion that the questions for Dancer, Entertainer, and Musician should be these:

Dancer:

"We'll beat you to it - After JTL, After the Jedi Revamp. Maybe. No way. We don't know. We'll think about it. Now, here's a questionto which the answer will be about as useful as thoseyou will answer below- What planet is the city ofCoronet, Corellialocated on?" Thank you for brushing off the needs/concerns of An Empire Divided for a minority of players onevery server (Jedi),and for an expansion pack that was NOT supposed to take resources away from this game."

Entertainer:

"Does SOE consider it appropriate to award a 'tribute to the profession' badge to an NPC? (by definition since an afk buffbot is not actively controlled by a player they are computer controlled) (link here to the post on the Ahazi boards)

If Yes, what is the timetable to remove the professions and place dev controlled buffbots?

If No, will the team please confirm the CSR team have been given revised instructions on the distribution of badges?
If SOE plans to do nothing, then please read the following list of Entertainers that are going to cancel their account as of the posting of the official answer to this question:

  • Sartinius L'Xon of Bria (LeBob)

  • [next]"

Musician:

"We beat you to it with the Dancers question: After JTL, After the Jedi Revamp. Maybe. No way. We don't know. We'll think about it. AHHHH, that's out of the way, now here's a question from which the answer will be about as useful as those already stated above - What planet is the city of Theed, Naboo located on?" Thank you for brushing off the needs/concerns of An Empire Divided for a minority of players onevery server (Jedi),and for an expansion pack that was NOT supposed to take resources away from this game. Save your breath on a response. Just like the other answers, we've all heard it before."

Personally, I think TH and everyone else down at SOE (and probably a good deal of the other players) will think our issue with the badge is a petty problem and that our professions must be in good shape if it's all we have to complain about. Beery is almost certainly correct in her post about what their reply to the question will be. However, since people on the Dancer, Entertainer, and Musician boards have all considered changing this week's question to something about the badge, I would suggest making it the Entertainer question and then using the Dance and Musician questions as protest against the non-answers TH has been and will be giving us.

I don't know what the format of these questions is supposed to be, but if any protest questions are used, you might want to append something like this to them:
"Do you know why we've wasted the ability to ask a question by asking a protest question? If you're about to say yes, prove it; post replies to 5 threads on each entertainer board that indicate you've read anything at all on them."

Something like that, to maybe, possibly, slim-to-none chance, get them to actually post on our boards as a result of the protest question(s).

OK, follow me on this one (i think someone else came up with this idea, so maybe i'm stealing it lol)

Based on the following idea, I think we could provide TH with a potential way of alleviating the tendency of folks to "just pay the money and get an alt so i can have an entertainer when i need them."

I think the predominant reasoning for having a buffbot/AFK'er for a player cantina is "i can't ever find one, so i just started another account and made it an entertainer." Or, the reasoning for the buffbot/AFK'er is that it's "convenient."

This tells me one thing, and one thing only - ENTERTAINERS NEED TO BE MORE EASILY FOUND/ACCESSED.

What they should have done AGES ago, when player cantinas were put in the game, is make a system - accessible from from every cantina, NPC or player - where player cantina owners can solicit entertainers to come play in their cities. In fact, anyone could put up a notice that they need some entertainment, and an entertainer could see that request, send a /tell that they're on their way, and provide our service for them. We need a GIG MANAGER in the cantina. Let's say you're in a random player city - and stop in a cantina. Your mission terminal is across the street. No one is in that cantina. This is where current players would:

A) do without entertainment

B) log on their alt AFK/buffbot character

C) stop what they're doing, leave where they are, and find an entertainer in the closest and most convenient big NPC city cantina.

The inherent problem of "not being able to find an entertainer" needs to be looked at and corrected, not allowed to fester. Then people in Theed and Coronet could get out of that mess, make some good money from another player, and play a gig somewhere. It would be like a player initiated mission. Upon playing for the set amount of time requested in the "mission" you get the payout and you are free to leave. Player cantina events would have a convenient way of hiring entertainers. Players could "hire" an entertainer to come to a certain cantina and heal them if no one's around. It would vastly improve this game for both entertainers and their customers.

If it worked well enough, it might get players out of Theed and Coronet and into player cities more often, there wouldn't be this feeling of "i can never find an entertainer," and it would *drum roll* POTENTIALLY PROVIDE US WITH SOME REAL INCOME.

Player city cantinas could also put posts out for an event, let's say they need 10 dancers and8 musicians. In a custom text box, they could specify "Entertainers who can play Ceremonial preferred but not required." The "gig" would have a set time limit - and upon being at that location for that timeframe, you get your payment.

Eh, just thinking of how we can alleviate our current AFK/buffbot problems by making us more accessible to the player base.

My question for our profession would be:

"There is a growing problem with AFK and buffbot Entertainers, so much so that an AFK Buffbot Entertainer received a badge for being "a tribute to their profession" recently (which makes our communities quite upset). A common reason for people having Entertainer alt characters who AFK and buffbot is that people "can never find an entertainer when they need one and it's more convenient." Player cantinas are often empty, necessitating a visit to a big city to find someone to heal you - which is inconvenient. Can the Dev team please look into creating a "Gig Manager" NPC for NPC city cantinas AND player cantinas. This "manager" would allow anyone in a cantina to put up an ad requesting that an entertainer visit the cantina they're in and entertain them. We have more details, but that's the basic idea. Can we get this looked into soon, please? When an AFK buffbot becomes "a tribute to their profession" then something is seriously wrong with SWG, and it's time get our professions back on track and more accessible to the player base."

Now - I know the answer will be "After JTL, we'll think about it, talk to NewJedi, blah blah blah." BUT i think this might kill 2 birds with one stone - we'll give 'em the jab for the AFK buffbot getting a badge, while providing them with an idea to help the problem itself (rather than just crabbing about the badge).

While I am not a ID I am not an entertainer as I cannot deal with thoughs AFKtainers. and I have SP devoted elsewhere. I personally feel that this issue is NOT petty but is infact Proffession BREAKING as the MAIN is not onlyreason that entertainer is fun and there for a Desierd Proffession is the Social Aspect to it and AFKbots are not socal and therefor making the Prof UNfun and therefor Brocken. While I don't like any AFKgrinders the Entertainer ones are the worst because atleast the others are not for the most part making it UNfun for the REAL players.

I have seen all answers up to now and my vote goes to boycot. Don't ask a question this time.

I have seen many good questions from correspondents and I have seen a bull**edit** answer every single time. My time is too valuable and better spent snapping myself with the elastic band of my underwear than reading another answer like this.

Personally, I think your question is apt, Sart, but I would nix the threat at the end of it. I understand the brouhaha this has caused, and I'm not happy about it same as you, but the devs deserve the shot of saying they do not approve before you issue a threat like that. I'm pretty sure this was one CSR being an idiot, and not the opinion of SOE on the matter.

And Lilo...you either need a stiff drink or a good long massage. You've been stressed out and fuming lately. This is not the happy Lilo I know. I recommend a trip out to the Gypsy village where you can feel the sand between your toes, drink some rum and let the tension roll out.

Well, either that or slash some tires in the SOE parking lot. That might work too.

FYI, we Correspondents have already posted two threads about this in the Correspondent forum.

Folks, please try to propose questions in my "Question for week of June 21 thread" so that I can keep track. I simply intend to tally the votes in that one thread. As for timing of the next question, I don't think the previous question has been answered yet, so we're still on hold for a bit longer.
