Thread: An idea on Buffing that may or maynot have been suggested...
While searching for an hour tonight for a musician and dancer to buff my mind.. and having not only a hard time finding someone that knows about this.. but one that can do it.. .... hehe and remembering the days not to long ago that i would give these out myself..
there needs to be a easier way .. as stated in your list of things that needs to be improved...
well here is my suggestion toADD to the current way buffs are done and also make it more viable of an income source..
What if a master artisan makes a device... lets call this device a recorder.. then a dancer and musician .. can then use this recorder to .. well record their performance.. then they can sell these recordings.. which would be in form of a data disk.. user double clicks gets buff..
now not to cheapen the art.. the act of recording would still take the normal time it would normally take.. and flourishes and stage art would improve the quality .. so those that take pride in their art can make a superior "singles"..
this would give musicians and dancers another viable source of income as well.. and having my starts as a dancer.. i know those that truely do it for roleplay .. it can be tough to come by dough ..
i dont know but I and a few entertainer guilds i still hang out with . love this idea...
and if someone else suggested this.. koodos to you ..
This avenue will not take away from that at all. people will still have to come to cities to to heal mind wounds and battle fatigue.. this is just another avenue to apply the mind buffs only.. and seeing how.. you can travel the galaxy at almost any given time and not find a musician that knows are can deliver this buff it is a good idea..
Also think of the added roleplay .. bands can be formed for real now.. .. and sell their greatest hits.. I personaly dont know of many entertainers on my server that would not like to have another way to advertise their performances..
Three things need to be done to our buffs.
1. They must be done quicker. A lot of people want musician buffs, especially from a master. It is hard to do everybody and not be there all day. I say lower the buff time to about the time it takes a master doc to buff all 6 stats (about 2 minutes)
2. Make the buff power and duration depend on the instrument quality. and thus make healing dependant on it as well. give us a reason to use good ingrediants and experiment on our instruments.
3. LET US BUFF OURSELVES PLEASE! it is hard enough to find one master musician, but to be that musician and go looking for another is incredibly hard.
1. I doubt the devs will ever go down to a buff time of two minutes. They aimed for around 6 minutes for a Master playing optimal songs and instruments. I suppose they might whittle it a tad more, but I can't see them ever going down to two minutes.
2. I have suggested to them that they consider instrument quality in determining how well and quickly we buff. Their initial reaction was positive, but they didn't promise anything. They do like the idea of making instrument quality matter somehow.
3. I've repeatedly asked the devs for the ability to buff ourselves. As I understand it, the primary obstacle is technical. I just reiterated this request in an e-mail to Thunderheart today.
You can buff more than one at a time.
It is outlined in the Buff FAQ and from experience I know that it works. Some players don't believe you until you're done, but it does work. The most I've ever buffed at once is 7 or 8, but in theory you can buff 19 people at the same time.

DinaJa, Fragpuppie has it right: you can buff 19 other people at the same time with the "passive" (grouped) buff. It takes more like 10-20 minutes to confer, depending on song, instrument, flourish rate, and Musician skill, but it works.
As for why the devs set 6 minutes for the "targeted" (/setperform) buff: I'm only speculating, but their vision of the Musician is a performer, not a doctor. They want to encourage social interaction between performers and listeners. One nice thing about the buff is that it's not easy to do while AFK; it requires the Musician and listener both to be "awake." As both a giver and receiver of the buff, I don't mind the 6-8 minutes at all. It seems like a fair deal for 2 hours of buffage.
