Thread: Bit of a N00b question sorry!!
I have just ground out business 3 to place a vendor, my question is if i now drop the business skills, will i loose the vendor or the use of it ?.
I literally took the skills just to place the vendor, i really do not want to keep them as i need the skill points for my chosen profession.

Allow me to explain further as it seems to be the lit match on the gasoline soaked floor here.
I am working my way up to Master Doctor, very slowly i might add. My reason for wanting a vendor was simply to sell med supplies and heals to people in the field and make a few credits on the side. The cost of making and crafting Stims, packs etc is very crippling and im in a bit of a bind. If i go to hunt (For resources) i dont have time to craft, if i craft, i dont have time to hunt for credits.
A working Doctor cannot rely on tips from people in med centres as these tend to be few and far between and you are always fighting other Medics for patients, I will always defer to a junior medic for heals as they need the xp more than I do.
Simply put i needed the vendor to support me, my question is still valid. Will i loose the vendor if i surrender the artisan skills.

I honestly don't know. And that really is an Artisan Forum question.
I know what happens when you surrender merchant skills but I've never actually tested the Business Skills.
No one is trying to prevent you from selling your merchandise. The question is what method is available to you to sell them:
1. Bazaar (Everyone can do this)
2. Vendor (Business III and HIgher - Merchant)
3. Sell to a merchant for resale. This is a viable method. You proably give up 10% of your margin and you don't pay the mainetnance or the time to keep the vendor operating.
Yes, alasander, at the moment you can surrender your Business skill and keep the vendor. There is debate on this issue and it may change in the future.
The other option open to you, besides those DocSavage mentioned already, is to work out a deal with a merchant near to your center of operations. You would sell your product to this merchant at a reasonable discount, and then this merchant would sell them on his vendor for a bit more. The merchant takes a risk by buying the items from you, because if there is no market for it you have your money and he has a stockroom full of things nobody wants. This risk is what the merchant must decide when accepting or rejecting your offers and setting his resell prices. Also, he puts time into buying and selling, just as you put time into crafting. His mark-up includes fees for his time spent.
The prior postersmay sound frustrated because they want this sort of business arrangement I have described, but the ability for anyone to drop Business skills and keep a vendor limits their ability to provide these services.
The Merchant community is trying to get the Devs to change this. Are you willing to take the chance on your vendors going bye-bye with future changes?
I would suggest you actually get Business 4 and Novice Merchant so you can have an NPC vendor. The Business 3 vendor will cost you your left nut in maint. fees whereas the NPC vendor is a flat 15cr/day.

Nope. The Vendor at Business III and the NPC vendors now both costs 15/cr per hour.
