Most of my clientelle are newbies... which is why I've got my business as close to Mos Eisley as possible. Loving it - get to make a bit of cash, and help masses of new players, which is something I enjoy.
However, the one thing that irks me is the number of ridiculous offers I get on my vendors. It's not malicious, it's just new players experimenting with the system, trying to make a bit of cash, etc. And frankly, if people are going to offer me reasonable clothes, resources or artisan-food etc, I'm more than willing to buy it and sell it on. Just not 3 units of grinding copper, and please no more CDEF weapons!!!
No easy way to communicate this to customers - what I would do if this was real would be to put up a notice explaining what offers would and wouldn't be accepted on the vendors. I can put an item in the vendor with a long description, but it may well disappear off the first page, etc.
Currently, I've made a bone armour segment and changed the name to "Please only offer resources, clothes etc to the vendors!" (or something like that) and propped it up against the wall. Of course on item names you can only write one line, and they actually have to click it (or mouseover it) to see what's written. Not much effect, either - still getting loads of CDEF pistols offered to me for 2000cr!!
Has anyone else come up with an imaginative or innovative way to communicate with customers that might help me?

At Advertising II you get the ability to assign your vendors custom vocal greetings. That might be a great way to communicate your policies on offers.

Actually, you can make items with a multi-line name. I just made a fountain for the PC I live near that had 3 lines in the name. You do it the same way multi-line shop/house signs are made. (If you don't know how, PM me or do a forum search, there are a few posts about it.)

Yeah, a custom bark may be one approach - perhaps I should set up another vendor solely for offers (I rather like the barks I've already set up, don't want to lose them).
I'll try using a multi-line rename again, sure it didn't work last time.
Thanks for the tips...

Additionaly to multi lined items - using back packs you can even use colors, and you can re-write the displaying message as often as you like ... but yes, best guess would be letting your vendor bark

You might also try to take the bone segment off the wall and place it in closer proximity to the vendor(s), like at their feet or mid-torso. You can also try a backpack instead of a segment for the sign. In color with multiple lines, it can be pretty effective, and it's very handy as a nearby temporary merchandise storage thingy.
A colored pack on the vendor named something like SELLING YOUR STUFF - CLICK AND READ 1ST should help. I have something like this and it always seems to show up on the first page, even when I've just placed it.
