Heres a real life example to point out how absurd a vendor limit is:

2 assumtions:

Humans need to breath air inorder to survive

Merchants need vendors is SWG to survive as a proffesion

Lets say you live in a large industrial city (SWG) and the goverment (Sony) comes to the citizens and says, "Hey guys, we have a carbon dioxide problem (database) and inorder to to solve it we are going to have to limit the amount of times each person breaths per day. Now in order to make this fair, we cant base the number of breaths on the size of the person (the amount a crafter produces/sells) because larger people and athletesbreath more then small people and that isnt fair. So next month (publish) each family is going to be alloted a number of breaths per day....If you a single Adult you'll get 50 breaths, a couple each get 70 breaths, couple w/ 1 kid each get 80 breaths, couple w/ 2 kids each get 90, couple w/ 3 kidseach get100 and a couple w/ 4 kids each get 110 breaths per day, Have a nice day."

Well of course the community (forum) gets all up in an uproar and yells, screams and kicks thier feet because they cannot survive only breathing so few times a day. People start throwing out ideas on how many breaths "they" could actually live with, how they could get around the breathing limit and how they could change the way they breath. The problem with this is they have by doing this already accepted the insane idea that they should have to limit thier breathing to solve the cities air problem rather then the city working on solving the amount of carbon dioxide being emited by the city's Industries.

So after a week the city government comes back and says, "We hear your plee's/concerns, and thanks for the feed back and ideas, we understand your points of view and feel your pain, so we have decided to double the amount of breaths we previously proposed. We have given, now you must."

Well I am sorry I cannot live on 50 breaths (items), 100 breaths, or 1000 breaths a day....This leaves me very few options, try to live with the absurd demand to limit my breaths and die, or leave the city (swg)I have loved up until now, for another town (MOG) that will allow me to breath.

Thats a well thought out post, i agree 100%. Its just not sane to have to place ALL my vendors in one spot to sell areasonable amount ofitems, any good crafter can hit 660 easily but remember some people are global and spread vendors across planets.

I know the post is long, but I keep seeing more and more "lets change this or that" threads and not one rebutal to my rebutal. hmm.... Can anyone answer why we must give up our Proffessions most important and really only tool/skill and have it be replaced with a farce?

Regardless what the number ends up being, any limitation of our main skill is still a limitation. Now Doc has said the proposed numbers will most likely go up... but he is sure they wont go even as high a few thousand for even master merchant.

The issue for me then becomes what is the value of having a vendor and devoting the skill points. I currently have novice artisan (15sp) business 4 (14sp) novice merchant (6sp) and managment 4 (14sp) for a grand total of 49sp spent on being able to have the # of vendors I desire... So 1/5 of my total skill points are now devoted to the abilty to have vendors, or in other words;

I currently spend 1/5th of my allotted skill points to be able to sellitems an unlimited # of items over 6kcrin this game.

I could do away with all but 1 vendor if I could keep the unlimited # of items.

I could master merchant again and maintain it if I could keep unlimited # of items. (another 43sp) But that make 37% of all my skill points devoted to just having the same thing I have now using only 20% of my sp.

But I according to our correspondant, who I am sure is working for us as best he can, the unlimted # of items is even being considered by the devs...

DocSavag wrote:

You will not get unlimited items out of this. Its not going to happen. Get it out of your head. We need counter proposals.

So that leaves us with how much of a reduction are we going to face... if the final number does not make it worth my investment of sp I will not retain merchant. If it ruins the games economy I will prob quit.

The question we should be asking is not what number is acceptable for everyone, rather;

How doesanvendor item limitenhance or balance we the players general game play?

Until this question is answered I cannot see why we are discussing numbers as to what we each of us think is reasonable amount of items to have on our vendors.

What is reasonable to you is not reasonable to me, all the numbers, reconfiguring of skill trees etc..are being discussed AS IF this change must take place in order for us to play... well as far as I am concenred, vendor item limits has not been a player issue since the number became infinite.

If Sony comes out andtells usthey are going to raise the monthly fee to $150 a month and after all the complaints, settles to only raise it to $75 a month, I dont see that as a compromise...its still and absurd number, much like the propossed vendor limits...

If vendors are limited from infinite to 100, 1000, or 1mil items it is still to much of a nerf. You cant go from unlimited amounts to very very small finite amounts and expect to maintain any sense of rational perspective.

We only have one skill..the ability to sell items on vendors ....The limitation of that skill does not enhance anyones game play.

The proposed limits are akin to making Master smugglers only able toslice 110 time per day, master riflemen shoot thier rifle 110 times a day, or mastercrafters, craft st only 110 time per day. Unlimited vendors are our classes main skill.... destroy the skill and you destory the class.

The idea that this is being done to save the data base doesnt fly.

- all the items currently on vendors are going to be moved onto the live server as players transfer them to houses and factories. Sever lot swaps and many other things will be done to achieve this... Imagine 20-60 new structures per crafter per server....apox 4k-12k new structures overnight and a whole new database/ lag problem.

- The data base is already being cut with the removal of the exploit vendors and the account purge, until the effects of thosechanges are known how can we be ask to accept such a massive nerf in the game.

So I will stand by the infintie number... if the dev's dont care and impliment a drastic cut, I will at the very least drop merchant, and most likely the game.
