There have been over 1,000 posts on the subject of the proposed vendor changes without a peep from anyone at SOE. An acknowledgement that someone has read them would be nice, a responce to our suggestions would be great.

Well, as I posted a while ago, I'm actually notin the office right now (trying to fix up my house so I can get it sold so I can move to San Diego), so I haven't been keeping up with the forums that much. I am on email so I can read work email, but that's about it.

I do know that we discussed not changing the maintenance fees to be scaled off of value on the vendors, and that we were going to instead look at a form of sales tax. The reason why we were going to scale it off of value was so that vendors wouldn't be used as storage devices (since that was not the intent). But vendors are better as storage devices than leaving the stuff on the floor of houses (much less DB load), and you guys are already suffering a storage crunch, so we're talking about simply changing the flat fee to make more sense--make it cheaper as you advance or something--and instituting sales tax instead.

That is from 8-29-03....and why I use my vendor as storage
Now...with the changes you are pushing on us...you are going to force us to place more houses and factories and force us to store items that way...

And don't forget...We were supposed to only be able to place ONE house and merchants were supposed to be able to place more...Is that coming next?

Quick question...

Is the intent in not allowing players to trade vendors to require merchants to be shop owners now?

Frankly, we made a booboo and committed an oversight. There were exploits related to trading vendors, so we closed the loophole without realizing the implication of the broken house admin permissions. The result was a major nerf to merchant house-sharing. I do not have an ETA on a fix, because we are trying to devote the server programmers to stability 100% of their time right now--we see that as the biggest issue we need to resolve.

That said, we also uncovered bugs in how houses are working. Players were only supposed to get one house unless they were merchants. Well, that's clearly blown now. We do have to be very careful about item limits in SWG, so we are looking at probably setting house storage caps per house size, rather than it being a flat 250 for any house, like it is now.

Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but as the game grows in subscriptions, won't they have the same problem in the future. This fix won't solve the space issue. Buy more hardware SOE!! Don't punisher your current subscribers because you lack foresight and Info Sys. Planning.

That is my point...where will we be in a year or two? will they force us down to one house with 25 item storage in it???
