I still dont understand the whole color scheme and how to change the color of the sign text for your shop. I have gotten to the point where I can get red, blue, green, and black... But I dont know how to do different shades. Could someone please help me out? Thanks a bunch!

If I remember you mustplace the following before your text/#(hexcode of the color)

Yeah, I know that... But I see vendors with cool colors like yellow, and orange and purple and such. And different shades of it too. How do you know what to put in for the different colors? Is there a site that shows all the codes?

I don't have a bookmark, but if you just go to Google, and search for "Hex code color chart" you'll get a ton of listings. Choose the one that you like, bookmark it (Or print it, some of them display in a nicely-printed format) and bring it up/out every time you need it.

I know what you are talking about. Use (for example) \#ff0000\ to make something red. The ff command makes the colour "full" thus making it look "full". It's a good idea to experiment to see what mixes you can make, they really do make a difference in your house name
I don't use numbers becuase they look like unclear mud to me, instead just mix the ffs.

You can't do all the really nifty shades but it will provide the base for basic colors.

If you want to make a complex series of colors with multiple lines, though, you'll have to use your /notepad, since entering it manually limits the # of characters.
Rebind a key command for copy & paste text... (under Options/Controls/Keymap/Chat)
In /notepad, type your sign name. Use multiple lines or different colors. Highlight it with your cursor and then "copy". Select 'rename structure' or change the vendor sign name from the radial menu and just "paste".
I use shift-ctrl-c for copy and shift-ctrl-v for copy.

If you want to know 'why' the colours are the way they are - it's like this.
#AABBCC
Where AA=Red, BB=Green and CC=Blue.
The numbers go from 00 (no colour) to ff (brightest colour).
00, 01, 02, 03, 04... 09, 0a, 0b, 0c, 0d, 0e, 0f, 10, 11, etc etc.
Usually, you can just use 'steps' of 00, 11, 22, 33... 99, aa, bb, cc etc.
So if you wanted a really strong red, you'd use #ff0000.
If you wanted a dark blue, you'd use #000088 or so.
The colours mix like so -
Red+Green=Yellow.
Red+Blue=Magenta (strong pink/purple).
Blue+Green=Cyan (bright aqua).
Everything else is just variants of these - for example...
I want a nice golden yellow sign. So I use #ffff00.
Hmm, too bright and I'd like a little more 'orange' to it. I need less green.
#ffdd00. There, much better.
Days later, the sunshiny gold is getting on my nerves and I want to dull it all down to a brown (which is usually a 'dark orange') so I change it to #cc6600. Much better.
Hope that helps.

Dude,
This is something Ive wanted to know for a long time myself also. Even though the post before me was good for someone kind of familar with hex code, for it noob it might as well be japanese. I did like a 30 min search of the forums and I found this guide:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=architect&message.id=53060&highlight=hex+code#M53060
It absolutly rocks and it is beyond me why it is not part of the Merchant Guide. It explains in very simple terms from start to finish about all the codes, the scheme of numbers and how to combine them to make colors. I think the poster should recieve some sort of CRS award. It helped me and it ROOOOCCCKKKKSSSS DUDE
