Im defending merch on the core-systems forum with no back up whatsoever. just some guy saying that biz/merch skills need to be given to every novice profession since merch is just a support profession anyway.

It's obvious there is no way to convince him his ideas are not amenable to the majority of merchants. He's intractablein his point of view. I'm not saying his ideas do not have merit. I just don't think reducing Merchant to a sideline profession is the answer to the problems he states as reasons for giving merchant to everyone. Merchant needs enhanced, not nerfed into an uncertified tool of the masses.
I, for one, would be horrified to see the return of thousands of merchants with empty vendors littering every planet. And that is how such a system as he suggests would turn out too. Everybody and his monkey's uncle would have a vendor or few, and the majority of them would be empty or have half a dozen items on them about half the time. I do NOT look forward to having even moreempty vendorson the global map cluttering up the system and alienating the customer base again. /shudder

I wouldnt mind seeing 1 vendor added at M.elite craftign though, i struggle with to few skillpoints and to much merchandise daily . so even with no vendor just +500 items it would help

I must admit, it's a debate that has avoided devolving into a flamefest. That alone is refreshing.
If he could come up with a bold new idea to enhance the Merchant profession instead of re-hashing an old idea that's been torn to bits ad infinitum, then I'd be more entertained with the prospect of further debate with him.
I'm also disinclined to pursue debate with someone who hasn't bothered to filter such an idea through the Profession forum before taking it to the Core SystemsForum. He might have gotten a better response and had a better foundation of evidentiary points to support his proposal had he done a barometer check here first. Yes?

very true... however, i enjoy a good debate. and he wasnt flamy about it, just opinionated and hardheaded. lol
but you are right, any suggestions that deal with professions should start at that professions forum - or you should have at least read similar posts in that professions forum to get a feel of what the general concencis (sp) is towards that subject.

You know, at some point, you justgotta laugh lol
There will always be people who feel the way that guy does, and there's nothing we can do to change their minds. I just find it hysterical how they saymerchant isa 'secondary',oreven 'useless' profession, while arguing vehemently to acquire our skills

I gave up trolling the core systems for bad ideas on the merchant profession ages ago.
