The problem with a lot of the categories like entities and eyewear is that they do actually exist in the game, you just can't sell them.
They just need to be hidden.
My personal pet peeve is furniture. (Don't even get me started on the duplicate named items)
It needs to be broken down the same way clothing is:
-Chairs
-Couches (and loveseats)
-Tables
-Containers
-Plants
-Paintings (and posters)
-Lights (candles, lamps, & torches)
-Civic (streetlamps, fountains, statues)
-Terminals (ballot, data, etc)
-Misc (beds and whatever is left over, including Nemoidian Birdcages which are not currently considered to be furniture.
I've probably left out a couple.
As for categories in general, I think that every item in the game that can appear in a vendor listing should be required to fit into a subcategory.
Things like faction scanners and turrets sort under "Deed"
Deed > Faction would make sense.
As it is, you have to look at EVERY "deed" to be able to see these things.
Also, do away with Misc > Item. Why are these "items" and not "generic items"
Oh, and factory crates should sort by their base category, not "factory crate"

I'd like the ability to set a category for a backpack too. Like a backpack full of armor could be listed under armor (no subcategory). Andwhile I'm dreaming, alightsaber resource kit would have its own shiny new category under weapons.

Removing these should not be suggested, but filling them should be!

Tissue should stay tissue, when I look for componants I do not want to see myloflex.

Given that the Galaxy-Wide Vendor Search is here, and we will not be stopping it, I think catagory re-vamp should be Number 2 on the Merchant's wish list. (We all know No.1, so I wont even bother with it.)
Once the Search hits Live, customers will be faced with literally hundreds of pages of items in many catagories. Revamping the Bazaar/Vendor interface must be done so that the galactic economy is not stripped down to who can get their items on the Bazaar first.
I like the catagory revamp idea, and added my 2 cents. But really, seriously, the GWVS needs a new Bazaar.
Poking around these threads I get the impression that Elyssa has not had much direct influence over the Merchant changes, and these things have sort of happened without any input from the community.
Once this publish hits live, I'd like to see a State of the Profession post where we can address the future of Merchant.

I'd leave "Organic Food" and "Inorganic Chemicals" as such simply to help with the sorting--it keeps them lumped together on the list instead of it going Bone, Chemical, Crystalline Gemstone, Hides, Meat, Minerals, etc.
And we really need a way to break down the minerals, if nothing else. There's dozens and dozens of subtypes of minerals, florals and chemicals, and we'll have to sort through pages and pages of "Minerals" or "Florals" to look for "Extrusive Ore," "Berries" or various types of copper.

1. The ability to have crates of melee weapons show up at the melee weapons category as well. Implemented as a checkbox.
2. The ability to sort decending/acending according to various properties of the object, such as finding the weapon with the lowest speed. Highest max dmg.
Perhaps some sort of search language could be implemented now when bazaars are becoming increasingly more complex.
Something like this:
speed < 2.5;
cost < 40000;
woundChance > 17;
And it would list all items that match in the whole galaxy!
Im new to the merchant board so please dont flame me if anything of this has been requested before. .)

Good ideas peeps. The Galaxy Vendor Search is indeed a little cumbersome at the moment, and added granularity would be excellent.

One other suggestion. Add the Vendor/Bazaar category to the item's "examine" window so when we go to look for something similar, we know where to look.

Also there needs to be some way to package items to sell in sets.
Currently I use a travel pack to put complete ensembles in, but when people search for clothes, they won't be looking in the travel pack section.

Ya - and Lightsaber Resource Kits too. Needs to be a new category under Weapons. Maybe even a category called Weapon -> Dimear's Lightsaber Resource Kits. That would be sweet

The "Entrance fee" field takes up all the space, we cant see the full name of item actually beeing sold.
Could we please get some kind of "disable field" function?
That way I could remove that field and perhaps a few more to view more of the name of the ware.
Btw, who uses enrance fees other then to get xp?
