I is my belief that more professions should be more directly involved in the GCW, including merchants.
No we could no make supply deals with the the empire/remelion, or something like hat. But the skills that make a successful businessman (or businesswoman) could easily be applied to a civil war.

Instead of advertisement, aimed at making customers buy a product, advertisement could be used to show the events on the battle field in a way more favourable to the merchants side, you know propaganda like to title propagandist.
And instead of managing a group of employs, the merchant could manage the faction soldiers better so more could be housed in the same size quarters. Instead of hireling different kind of vendors, the merchant they could help get different kinds on troops assigned to a location or make the replacement of troops come faster. And so on.

In essence, handling the logistics of a large corporation, and handling the logistics of a large armed force, would require many of the same skills. And it would be a good way to bring another profession in the GCW, even if it was only to boost the troops at a faction base or reduce the FP gained from killing them.

Heheh - just remember, the only winner in a war are the arms dealers. I've NEVER fought other people (killing customers tends to be bad for business) but I'm glad other folks do - it keeps a steady stream of customers needing replacement parts and gear.

Yes, but if you are widly known for killing alot of a certain faction, the other faction will want to shop at your store!
