I tested out a Merchant Barker Droid tonight on TC and I have a report for you.

The droid has a new menu on the radial menu called "Merchant Barker" on that menu there are three options "Record Message" , "Set Waypoint" and "Toggle Barker on/off"

"Record Message" This command will record the next text you type into spatial into the droids barker message. The limit is 128 characters. If you exceed 128 characters it gives you a warning and doesn't save.

"Set Waypoint" This commands brings up a select box with a list of all your waypoints. You select one and it sets this as the waypoint the droid will give out for you.

"Toggle Barker on/off" This command switches the barking on and off. When on the droid currently barks the message about 1x every 30 seconds. I personally think this needs to be a longer interval about 60 seconds or better but that is just my personal opinion.

I tested out the ability to transfer the droid after it was set up with the following results. The waypoint stored in the droid by a merchant will continue to be given out even if the owner of the droid isn't a merchant. However the non merchant couldn't access the options to change the module. He also couldn't chagne the recording or turn the barking on. ( The menu doesn't appear for him at all). This means that while merchants could program the waypoint in and non merchants could allow people to get the waypoint, they can't get it to bark since the adbarking it turned off by storing the droid and must be re-enabled by a merchant.

128 characters isn't a lot of room. I wish it was a bit more..256 might be enough.

That is my preliminary feedback on the droids so far. I look forward to some of you testing them out and providing your input as well.

I dont have any hard evidence on that yet as my character on TC is a Master. I'll get more information on that as soon as I can. My money is on Novice Merchant but that is just an educated guess.

Very nice. More appeal to keep merchant skillswith these, every little bit helps. I would like to know if different features will unlock as you progress in merchant. And what tree unlocks em if that is the case.

And I think it would be nice if you could set your bark timeing. I agree that 30 secs is to short. Give us a selector for timeing IMO.

Oh, and can they be made to walk a patrol route?

Can agree that its a bit to little room for a message but with the wp giver it make up to that. Nice anyway

Yes they can patrol like any other pet. The patrol system is sometimes a little flakey and it doesn't store between sessions so you have to set it each time but you can set a partol route.

Right now there is no option to set the time between ad barks. If they can put one in that would be great. If we are stuck with one interval I am going to probably suggest 45-60 seconds as the setting. Anything shorter than that is going to be really really annoying.

I have no indication that there is more than a simple profession check for the commands but that is something I will test out tonight if possible.

Nice. Will selecting waypoints work alright for those of us with 90+ waypoints stored (is it a menu)?

Sometimes wish I had an established character on Test. :/

I had trouble with that because of the way it works. It just gives you a scrollable list of all your waypoints and you have to search through them manuallyand select the one you want. There isn't any information about them on that screen except the name and there is no way to sort them. I didn't check to see if your current sort in the datapad view would affect it but I tend to doubt it. I had to search for awhile on TC (were I don't have that many waypoints) to find the one I wanted. I hope they can enhance this feature a bit. I"ll be posting on it in the In Testing threads as soon as they are up.

I haven't really used the patrol function before so...what's the distance limit between waypoints? Is it 50m, 100m, cross-city, or can you send the droid on a trip around the planet? Not sure I'd do that, just curious.

I'm not even sure I'd use the barking part all that much, but the ability to have your droid hand out a shop waypoint is a teriffic little timesaver.

The droid has to remain on the same subserver as the owner to continue operating so it can't be all over the planet. But you could probably have it patrol a fairly sizeable area in a static or player city.
