We ought to make Player vendors different from the bazaar. THe bazaar has a full listing of categories to chose from. I think Player vendors should be able to choose up to2 categories (top level) to use in a particular vendor. I could make a vendor which sells Melee Weaponsand Melee powerups. THen another to sell Large Homes and Civic Structures. Then a third to sell Pet Deeds and Pet Stims. etc...
This sort of thing would have to go hand-in-hand with several other changes. A common "stock room" where you can choose what vendor to list stuff on. A drastic increase in the number of vendors, up to around 20 for Master Merchant, and only 1 at Business 4. Vendor Customizations by ID. A better vendor selection process.
This sort of change mighthelp peoplefind what they need more quickly. It would also make advetising more effective. And it provides a nice benefit to those who invest skill points in Master.

I'm sorry but i'm missing something here? Can't you already make vendors that sell multiple items? If you are referring to the category breakdown, instead of just selecting 'all' i don't see the purpose. I'm just confused about what you want? Do you want advertising in two categories? Or do you just want to limit each individual vendor to two types of product?

I think they only want2 search categories other then ALL on the vendor. Thus limiting the all-encompassing vendor but allowing more vendors per character. Boy a house could get full really fast with all the barking from 20 vendors, to me it's an interesting idea to the search problem of the current system

It would just take more room and vendors to sell the same thing bleh. And sorry but if people can't find what they need more quickly it's just that they are not smart enough to actually use the categories when looking for an item. I think enoughstupid-proof changes have already been done with the structure redeeding process.

I guess my goal is to make it eaier for a Merchant to "mark their territory". I admit, I love having a full range of categories available, and I have one vendor that I list all kinds of stuff, from Pet Stims, to Deeds, to Attachment, and clothes...its just a "catch-all" of items. I have a couple more that are named for What I sell on them, Droids & Tools, Homes & Decorations, etc...
I guess what I'm going for here is the ability for people to seek out vendors that have been configured to sell the item they want. This is, essentially, a form of advetising. I open the Planetary map, and choose a specific category, like Melee Powerups. The resulting list would contain any vendors on the planet owned by a Merchant with the appropriate skills, who has configured a vendor to include the Melee Powerup category.
Over and over again I go to a "Harvesters" vendor looking for a Heavy, and find a bunch of personal harvs. It would be nice to have known in advance that the harvs listed were not what I wanted.
Maybe another way to accomplish this is for the game to automatically advertise the vendor based on what is listed on it. If there are no powerups on it, the owner *can't* advertise is as such.

I'd like the ability to come up with my own categories. With the ones offered by SWG, all of my stuff falls under "Pharmaceutical". I'd like to divide that up to make it easier to find what a shopper might be looking for: Stims, Cures, Buffs, etc

That is the situation that some time ago let me to suggest, that a list should be during each server down. The database would make a list of map registered vendors for each product, say melee weapon power ups, heavy chemical harvesters, or revealing flesh wraps. A player looking for a product could then choose it and get a list of vendors on the planet that had it at the last server down.
Of cause it could sell out during the day, but at least you would not have to visit all the vendors the never had it in the first place.
In addition, I do not like the idea of having a vendor named pikes & 2h weapons and so on. I prefer the ability to name them my self. And as long as vendors can be named by the merchant it will be impossible to stop "false" advertisement.
