I've been pondering on the idea of starting a Merchant City, whereby all Merchants declare residence and locate their shops and/or tents within that city. Therefore, the more players we have the more people will want to visit and get everything they need in one place, just like Oxford Street in London
As mayor I will drop off Barker Droids around all the major starports within the Chimaera galaxy and advertise on the Auction channel so all you guys have to do is just be responsible for the maintenance and stock keeping of your vendors and properties.
Another advantage of course is that we will have a load (hopefully) of merchants who can trade with each other and get the best trade prices without relying on external sources, so we help each other to succeed and indeed excel in the much under-estimated profession on SWG!
Incidently, this will not be a Guild! So if u r already in a guild u dont have to leave it to join the community. But you will need to declare residence so that theCity will be accepted... on the Planetary Map is it? As we will need more that 10 declared residents before it is accepted and of course the more we have the better chance of the community surviving in case anyone decides to leave.
Any feedback would be much appreciated. If anyone "borrows" my idea then please send me a /tell and I will join
Im not in it to make even more money or gain Polly XP but to create a massive community in one place all doing what we have in common,,,,buying, selling and trading!

It's a proven fact that youi'll get MUCH more traffic in "Megastores" -- this looks to be one step further.
To paraphrase Yoda:
Variety leads to Traffic
Traffic leads to Sales
Sales leads to increasing margins
Good luck ![]()

Snash0902 you idea sounds interesting. However I already have a home town, that is run by my guild.
I think that you will find that many merchants have thair own loyalties already, many are primarily guild crafters that just make something on the side by selling to the general public, or have no interest in tying them self down in a player city.

Oh no, I wouldnt expect anyone to split their loyalties especially to their Guild. Anyone who specialise in doing work purely for their Guild I would notexpect to join, I am not advertising the idea to those particular Merchants, but to Merchants who want to build their business for their benefit without jeapordising theircurrent loyalty.
The Community will be for buying/selling/trading under one roof so to speak when nothing is going on within their Guild, without having to venture outthroughout the galaxy (and the cost that goes with it) whenthey need to get that much needed resource for crafting new items to sell.
And, of course, anyone who is not currently in a Guild will always have the option open when they do find one they want to join.

Good luck with the project, and good luck finding a good location on a planet with free city spaces.
When you do get this up and running I will properly be a shopper there

I think you have a really good idea! I know that when i shop around I tend to gravitate towards cities that have alot of vendors that are regularly stocked as opposed to flying all over the galaxy.

I would definitely do that. My alt is a Merchant and I'd rather just drop a shop that takes up one slot (I always have her slots full of harvesters) instead of a small house to declare residency.
Too bad you're not on bloodfin.

That is true Tarnack, actually finding a good location, let alone onenear a major starport, is proving to be the biggest task so far
My co-partner has found a location which I am viewing tonight so fingures crossed we may get underway very soon.
Thanks to everyone for your support, I will post the location of the city onceI have it up and running (hopefully by the weekend). And fingures VERY tightly crossed will have enough members to get it accepted and then the galaxies the limit!

The idea for now is put on hold as the location I went to last night had a Planet City Limit Reached!
Anyone know of a good planet where I can start this, with availabilty for a new City?

I play on two servers. On Chimaera and Scylla. Both servers have a completly different economy. On Chimaera the main business areasare arround the large cities (Coronet, Theed), on Scylla the main business area is concentrated in two cities - in Helios a city run bythe largestmerchant and events guild on the server and another city outside theed. Quite frankly I prefer the Scylla model as it enables me to shop in one place -all the servers top artisans and merchants are in these two cities. On Chimaera I have to travel from planet to planet - from city to city - only to compare stats and prices of the top artisans - sucks. I hope youwill succeedwith your idea. If you are interested in how such a city can look like and work feel free to visit me on Scylla -I'd be glad to show you arround. Just send amail to Rehavam.
