how do I gain merchant xp? and whats the fastest way to gain it.

1) Place a vendor. Place as many as you can. You get quite a bit of merchant xp per hour for each vendor you have placed (was 150 xp per hour per vendor - not sure if that changed when they nerfed merchant). This is probably the easiest way to get merchant xp. You get the xp whether you're playing or not. Just place as many vendors as you can and watch the xp roll in.
2) You get xp if you place an entry fee on your house and someone pays it. You don't get a lot of xp this way though. It's something like 50 xp per visit, max of 1 visit per person per 15 minutes. Someone smarter than me can verify the exact details or point to a thread with them (merchant FAQ that's stickied at the top of this forum perhaps).
3) You get xp whenever someone views the inventory of your vendor. Again, it's limited. Think it's about the same as #2. You can't get xp for yourself this way.
Bottom line: place vendors. Get xp. It's that simple. Don't even need anyone to see the vendor, and you'll hit master in no time. Good luck.
