Thread: Signs and holo billboards?
Everyone deplores SPAM but for a beginning crafter and merchant, what can they do?
What about holo billboards and signs in the NPC cities that anyone can rent space on and show a message? From my point of view, the NPC cities are kind of sterile in that regard. What kind of city does not assault you with ads? Remember Coruscant in the movies? It wasn't glaring, but it was there.
Before the game loads, thousands maybe hundred of thousands of text merchant ads can be downloaded in a zip file with information on what the message is and how often the message repeats, what cities it shows in and for how long.
Customerswho want to place aholo ad could pay credits to show X message Y number of times in cities A, B, C for Z number of days
Merchant and artisan discounts for placing items one the open market could apply
Heck, the merchant may also be given limited number keywords and players could search the ads since it would not demand any bandwidth. It's all aready downloaded before the game starts.
i love that idea but theres one problem....how do you email everyone that buys something from you? please send me a PM.

I've posted this in a few places, but I started all my crafting/merchant businesses on several servers without a single SPAM session or the use of a barker droid.
What I would do is load up the bazaar with whatever it was I was selling. Each & every person who purchased something from me would get a personalized email from me thanking them & giving them the waypoint to my vendors along with a very brief description of what I had stocked.
Yes, it's time consuming, but much less annoying than the spammers.

well when someone purchases something off of the bazaar, you recieve an email stating who bought what. you simply either forward that email or create a new email using the persons name in the "to" field, personalize it thanking them for the purchase. its not that hard.
What I really want to do is eliminate the need for spaming. I can's count the number of times I've stepped out of the starport in Coronet and crashed.

another good use of the bazzar is to place adds on it, put items up for auction, they last 7 days, its best to use store name or something that stands out in the name of the item you want to advertise, then in the main item decription you put what your store sells, decriptions of items, prices, location, what ever you want, it helps : )
also for an idea on a global add revamp check out this thread

What a great idea for billboards!! Yeah the whole spam thing sux. As an exclusive merchant, I have never used barkers, but I am close to doing it. I think it would be sweet if Advertising IV allowed us to place a some kind of a sign! Wow, how awesome would that be...100k says it'll never happen.
I wouldn't just limit it to just Advertising IV. Anyone could place an Ad. It would just cost a whole heck of a lot more for non-merchants. I'm thinking thousands of credits for those without Business 1. That would allow sombody to put up a "Happy Birthday Pipeur!" if they wanted to.
The main goal is to stop spam by providing something that's just as good but is far less anoying. If it's limited to just Advertising IV, then anybody who wants to get the word about about something and does not have Advertising IV is tempted to spam.
That's the problem with barkers....
But... what's to prevent a Merchant with Advertising IV selling their holo billboard ad space to someone at a lower price then what they would have normally paid and at a profit for the Merchant? Anybody can place a ad on the billboards. It would be cheaper for them if they found a merchant that gave them a discount.
