Thread: If it's not near a starport, I'm not goin there...

I think JTL has made a fundamental change to the game that merchants need to consider. Once you get JTL, you no longer want to use shuttles to travel to player cities. I find myself looking at the map for the nearest starport to a vendor. If a vendor isn't within 2KM of a starport (I dont mind a 2KM drive) I won't make the effort to go there because I now loath the shuttles.

Travel in JTL is addictive too. I have been to every starport in the game now. I use my starship to travel from Mos Eisley to Bestine and from Coronet to Tyrena. I am a man on the move and I can't be bothered with shuttle tickets or waiting.

I just thought I would throw this out there for merchants to consider. Locations near *any* starport are now more accessable to the JTLcrowd than any player city served by a shuttleport. This does not bode well for those of you on Lok in particular.

One of my points exactly.

They implement Player Cities with an included goal of decntralizing lag.

People work for a year to establish and develop city economics and support systems.

The remove a fundamental advantage of cities (shuttleports) with Starship travel and we have yet to hear anything about possibly player cities starship terminals so people can use both systems for JTL and non-JTL citizens.

A dreadful side effect is no one has reason to go to these cities if the population migrates back to NPC cities.

Make a decision and TELL US you'll stick with it. That's all I ask.

naboo doesn't really hurt in this since theed shuttle is instant... return trip might be wait.. but still very accessible.

With 5 min max wait times I don't worry abut that any more. Most of the time the shuttle is waiting for me. Most other times is a couple of minutes.

I find myself using shuttles more than I used to actually. With 5 minute wait times, I tend to go to merchants inside of player cities with shuttles, and ignore everything else.

I also tend to use out-of-the-way cities (like Doaba Gurfel on Corellia) to reduce lag. Theed is the major exception due to it's insta-travel, but now that I can bypass Naboo when traveling Yavin to Rori, for example, I don't find myself in Theed all the often. Between starship travel and shuttles, I also don't find myself using my swoop much for anything except harvester maintenance and surveying on my merchant character.

Actually, I've seen a little more activity with my player city vendor.

My theory is that starport travel doesn't cost anything with JTL, so people are more inclined to shuttle places on say, Lok, because instead of a 300 credit shuttleport ticket AND a 1700 credit starport ticket, you're only looking at a 300 credit cost since you take your ship to the starport. Also, instead of getting hit with 2 starport waits, now there's only one (once you arrive, to shuttle within the planet).

I find myself visiting more player cities lately, just because I'm not wasting time standing at starports. That's opened up quite a bit of play time, which I've filled by shopping (which isn't necessarily good maybe, heh) and wandering.

If you limit your game experience to only things that are near starports, you're missing a ton of stuff in this game.

It's also a lot of fun to wander around towns and see how people decorate their homes/shops/cities. And, of course, you get to meet new people.

This is sort of off the thread, but since you were talking about JTL allowing insta-travel to any starport from any starport I have a question about that.

Does anyone know if the ability to travel to any planet is a new feature or a bug that will be fixed? With ticket you have to two-planet hop to get alot of places, but not with a ship.

I really like this new ability but would like to know if it is going away before I start moving vendors to two hop planets.

Since i'm no longer paying umpteen thousands of credits to startport from one planet to another, i'm willing to shuttle around to other cities.

However if the original posters thought becomes mainstream, all the better for the rest of us willing to go an extra 1k for cheaper products.

After we got the 5 min. wait, Im visiting alot more vendors in player cities thanbefore.. If I miss a shuttle its not much of a problem anymore because the next shuttle will be there soon. Whn we waited 10 min I wouldnt wanna miss the shuttle and didnt look at the vendors.. Thats how it works for me now

Id have to agree with the rest of the people, those that just shop around correnet, or theed are missing tons of great vendors, great deals, and great people.. but thats fine by me.If someone wants to go listen to spam, check 10 venders in walking distance when 75% dont have whats advertised on the sign more power to you. I tend to get the role players, and people that like service not a vending machine.

Now we need "Jump to Soundspeed" for intra-planetary travel

Oh, and there could be dogfights in the skies above Coronet!

...then again, my store is REAL close to a starport.

Nah, couldn't bear the thought of catering to lazy people

j/k.

One big benefit I have found with JtL enabled players (and now the ability to travel anywhere to anywhere finally), is that people are now willing to travel to the remote planets like Talus (my home on Valcyn), Lok and Rori. They are now discovering that their galaxy doesnt begin and end at Coronet or Theed.

Mind you, if people couldn't stand the thought of flying direct to Dearic, and then spending a minute or 2 waiting for a shuttle to bring them to Draicco, and then a lag free 20meter run into my shop.....but would rather hop to Coro or Theed, battle the lag for a couple of minutes and then spend 10 minutes riding there and back (dodging houses, PA Halls, factories and mining installations), then good on them for making a "ahem" rational and easy choice.

Where is this "Dearic" of which you speak?
