Thread: Vendor item caps The worst idea ever

Hello all,

I know I am a bit late on this. But I feel I must add my 2 cents worth. I just heard about it today.

A item limit of 150 is insane.

I am a master merchant, I have 7 vendors.

Keep in mind I buy 100 offers aday from 200 crafters and suppliers

an offers vendor

one for resources - has 1000 plus listings in it, I have over 150 just in the organic food list. yes i do combine lots atleast once a day.

one for bikes and landspeeders - I have over 150 in this one ( I run them off in a factory, saves time)

one for general equipment, loot, etc- it has over 1500 items in it

one for armor and weapons - over350 items on a given day.

one for building and harvester deeds - over 150 on this one everyday.

one for high end resources. - around 200 items on this one.

an item limit cap would IMO:

1: add to the empty vendor problem found on most servers. (I hate this more than anything)

2: cause a major storage problem for most if not all crafters/merchants

3: slow down the transfer of credits around the game world - Correct me if i'm wrong, but that is what makes an economy work.

4: require most if not all online time a crafter/merchant has. Just trying in vain to keep something in stock.

5: Drive players away from crafting/merchant proffesions. (we all don't want to PvP, why try to force us to)

6: I'm sure more would happen, I just too upset to think staight.

I'm sorry if some players don't want to take the time to click thru a vendor to find what they want.

You really want to help those few with this problem?

Fix the sorting issues before you tamper with anything else.

If you take time and ask, most players are bothered more by empty vendors, not full ones.

I can not even express in words how upset I would be if this is even tried at a cap of 500 let alone 150.

I'm sorry starwars has a database problem.

They had to know if the game has 500,000 plus items , that some crazy player like me would try and keep as much as they could in stock in a vendor/store.

You can't sell it if you don't have out for the customer to see. A basic rule of retail sales.

If this plea falls on deaf ears and you do it anyway, What in the world am I going to do with all this stuff?

What would happen to it? Would the vendor just delete down to your randomly chosen cap?

That would be the worst case, so I must expect that it will happen.

Giving SOE's proven track record on must so called improvements.

Hey Devs you might do better if you fix problems that exist before you start making new ones.

Ok I feel a small amount better now that I have let that out.

Thank you all for letting me express my feelings.

Can I rent you some time on my vendor? that would make my merchant job easier, just repost your overflo ....

I'm willing to do it for a pittance and then you've got two people advertising (me and you) instead of one. We could start a chain of Sears stores.... ..

You forgot to mention inflation. The only way a merchant can keep a item in stock, it to put more up for sale, or reduce the rate of sales. The only way a merchant can control the rate of sales are to increase the prices. So a limit to the number of items we can put up for sale will necessary mean increased prises or empty vendors...

Please don't limit items on a vendor.

I spent 3 hours this morning replacing the 700+ items I sold yesterday. If you limit items how in the world will I ever keep things in stock? I am constantly getting email requests for items now.

I strive very hard not to fall prey to empty vendor syndrome. As nothing upsets me more than to take a long trip accross the map to see what so and so has and the vendor be empty,

Please fix the sorting issues.

Yeah and how about paying an access fee to look at 6 empty vendors? Even at a credit that chafes me good.

Access fees too are a crappy idea with an even worse interface and should be done away with completely.

Master Merchants will be able to have more than 150 items per vendor, but this cap idea, especially when probably half or more of the galaxy is EXPLOITING and using vendors to which they no longer have the skill to control, is a really bad one and will likely make me stop playing my tempest character.

I do not pay an access fee to look at vendors EVER. If the shop have something worth wile to sell then it do not need access fees to grant the owner XP.
A 1 cr access fee is hallmark of, a merchant in training, not of a fully developer shop.
