Thread: Please do not allow vendors to be deleted while items are in their stockroom
whenever i delete a vendor it asks me if i'm sure I want to delete this vendor and any items that may be on it..
and I have to click on Yes or No before continueing
so I think that would be a check so your sure.
works for me.
I agree that the notification is weak considering situations like houses which cannot be deleted now with items in them and require you to physically confirm a deletion not just an action that results in a deletion of items. Vendors should be more picky about being deleted when they have merchandise in them.
While it is true that it does warn you. It is also true that this system can be confusing and making a mistake can lean to a tough time for you for a while as you try to rebuild your business. I certainly think most merchant could support a more robust safety system for deleting a vendor. To remove a harvester you have to stop it, empty the hopper, then go through two destroy dialogs and type in a code.. shouldn't vendors with potentially hundreds of items be as secured?

It gives you the same warning whether there is still inventory in the vendor or not.
And I totally agree. The harvesters do have a nice set of warnings and fail safes to avoid destroying the deed. Harvesters got more attention because more people can use them. I feel that vendors should have the same treatment.
And there is any other glitch you got hit with. The radio buttons on the vendor control will automatically switch to "vendors in area" rather than the "individual" vendor you were accessing. This happens every time you shift to the stockroom.
Sorry to hear about your loss.

It sounds like you assumed that since the you could see the items in the stockrooms of your other vendors that they went into some kind of communal stockroom and wouldn't be destroyed if you removed the vendor. But the warning message specifically says that any items remaining on the vendor will be lost, and if you still had doubts you could have asked in here before deleting the vendor. I really really don't mean this to sound harsh, but I just don't understand why anyone would risk that much stock based on an assumption about how the vendor system works.
I agree that the warning should be better, and maybe it should be a little harder to delete a vendor with items on it. But I don't want the ability to delete vendors with items removed completely, it's kind of nice to be able to get rid of extra items quickly when moving a vendor instead of having to retrieve and delete them all individually.
And I also don't think that extra warnings about this kind of avoidable mistake should get developer attention ahead of actual bugfixes or new merchant systems.
