ok, so we all know what this is about so i wil make this short.
this is NOTa post for flamers or rabble rousers, i would just like some top quality suggestions. we have some poeple who are threatening to leave due to this 'fix' and others who dont know how this will effect them. i propose a compramise. my idea is simple but has been seen in some form previously. it was voted out then, maybe now a less violent version may be our only savour.
as stated else where the devs are proposing a limit to the number of items a vendor can hold. i agree that this would help ceratin fix certain 'loop-holes', such as using them as a storage container (personally i use factories as my extra banks, but i think a player crafted structure would be nice for this). the problem is when people have legitimate business's and DO actually need the sapce for 1000+ items. on wanderhome we had a while back an architect that had 1200+ items on their vendor and he did extremely well for himself. alot of people solely used him and he did great. but this too is a double edged sword, as he probably drove alot of younger architects out of business.
so, what do we do? i propose that we HAVE vendor limits ( which are set by the devs LISTENING to these boards/our merchant correspondant) that are NOT set in stone. these limits would be the 'free limits'. if a merchant wants to add more items to a vendor up to double the limits, they pay an extra fee to the vendor maintenence, like double the maintenance. if they add 3 times the items the maintanence is tripled. this way the player has control of how many items they put on a vendor BUT pays for it.
a simple idea in theory, but it may work IF the initial vendor limits are set up properly
im my personal opinion i would say the limits should be something like this:
Artisan Business 3 Get (1) Vendor, for a total of (50) items
Merchant Novice Get (2) Vendors, for a total of (150) items
Merchant Management 1 Get (3) Vendors, for a total of (300) items
Merchant Novice Get (2) Vendors, for a total of (150) items
Merchant Management 1 Get (3) Vendors, for a total of (300) items
Merchant Management 2 Get (4) Vendors, for a total of (450) items
Merchant Management 3 Get (5) Vendors, for a total of (650) items
Merchant Management 4 Get (6) Vendors, for a total of (800) items
Merchant Master Get (6) Vendors, for a total of (1000) items
now i dont know the actual amintenance cost for a vendor , so i cant say how much a master merchant having a business with 3000 items for sale is gonna have to pay, but they would pay triple the cost a master with 800 items to sell would do. a small price to pay for having the privalege of having a larger stock pile.
would this be a compromise we can all work on (devs and palyers) to sort out a situation that could so easily get very out of hand?

I'll add that a total of 1000 items across 6 vendors for Master Merchant is still BS.
There are just too many items to sell for these small caps.
I don't want to have to log into swg everyday to restock vendors.
Thats isn't fun and I refuse to do it.
If limits don't become higher and more realistic...well...
/closes shop
/drops merchant
/raises prices
/sells on bazaar

Interesting take on the additional storage costs. if you are charging more for the extra storage space, then I would say decrease the numbers slightly.
Artisan 3 - 25
Novice Merchant 50
Merchant 1 - 100
merchant 2 - 200
Merchant 3 - 400
Merchant 4 - 800
Master Merchant - 1600
Fees would be 20 credits a day for any amount over your minimum. 40 credits if you go over twice the limit, etc.
At Reduced Bazaar fees, this fee is reduced to 10 credits a day.
At master merchant this fee is reduced to 1 credit a day.

The "price" we have to pay isinvesting more skill points into the profession.
And 1000 items is NOT enough at master merchant.

I'm hoping they raise the limit significantly. I'm not sure paying more to store more would have the effect the devs are looking for.
I'm a relatively small weaponsmith but I pride myself in stocking every weapon I can make and many usefull artisian goods as well. I have 6 vendors on two planets and even with my small business I average well over 1500 items listed at any time. I can imagine the pain that will be felt by the large WS and AS. Hell, this hurts all crafters who like to have a diverse stock on hand. If I have to limit my stock it hits my pride more than my bank account. I know what my big sellers are and can easily just stock those but I like having the hard to find items available. With these limits I can't see having my complete line of grenades, rare pistols, odd carbines, many melee weapons etc that only sell a couple a month. They sell but not in quantities to justify precious shelf space.
I would point out that I AM a Master Merchant. It won't kill me by any means. I will adapt and change. It's just a game and I will just play my combat alt even more. The people who will suffer the most are those that want a diverse selection of weapons, clothes, food, etc. The customer will suffer.
